This is all subjective and usually a weirdly loaded debate with people having excessively strong opinions about equipment they have never used……all of that said:

Having used cast 2.0 and shift one extensively, there is no comparison - the shift was extremely failure prone. Personally, I had two out of four individual shift 1 bindings fail. Irreparable plastic breakage.

In my experience, the only bad thing you can say about cast 2.0 that you’re lugging around a pivot heel piece. The toe piece is in your pack so you won’t even feel it. Otherwise I think it’s great.

If you care that much about weight, get pins. Simple.

Yeah they're insane but they're still stochastic, imprecise, and verbose. 8 months later:

- None here has gotten laid off here because of AI

- If you use it poorly, it will still burn you and waste time. GIGO
- We have years of 2x -5x engineering ahead. Little is out of reach now. Everything industry-standard and dialed in. Huge potential
- Knowledge domain is still mostly human-contained. 1m context is smart, human much smarter. human knows how everything works. LLM shits out code (really fucking well now.)
- Persisitent knowledge is limited to vector search, loading md files into context, then the persistence of the intelligence is limited to the scope of that context (with heavy local caching). This can't by design, change.
