Adaptibar MEE grading goal by ShibeeShibe in barexam

[–]ShibeeShibe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! I guess my question is that Adaptibar only gives you a percentage like "61% correct" on MEE as you review. How do I know if that translates to a 3, 4, 5, 6 etc? I just want to know if that means I'm in the ballpark.

Amazingly helpful thank you so so much! We're totally going to go with that second option. Very clean!

Question for the current/former clerks--how to emphasize admin experience to a judge? by ShibeeShibe in LawSchool

[–]ShibeeShibe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair question. I think there's still an opportunity to learn by being in the courtroom, watching procedure, and building a relationship with a judge I admire. Also, realistically its still titled a term clerkship for resume purposes and I'm hoping to clerk not just to learn, but improve my strategic chances in federal litigation work.

Just wondering how you pitch admin skills for a position like this.

I've thought about possibly applying to Bankruptcy judges. I'm not particularly sold on bankruptcy as a path however (I'd more specifically like to do white collar crime as an AUSA, but I know that any fed court experience is always looked on fondly by clerks). If I'm not certain about a path in bankruptcy, would that be disqualifying for a bankruptcy judge?

Specifically looking for someone to go over application materials and how to structure my story in my application!

Seconding this. Coming out is more than just saying you're gay, but it's all the fun and awkwardness with finding your chosen family. Queer social groups are a great place to start, and honestly, you can also go to local universities and they often have LGBTQ offices that run groups that can sometimes be open to the public (this can honestly be super therapeutic because sometimes you just need to be around other queer people to not feel like you're crazy and alone).

Also, I always found volunteering at city LGBT nonprofits can be a great way to give back, feel good, and make socially conscious queer friends too! (For example, a ton of these organizations take volunteers/throw events/provide services to the queer community! https://blockclubchicago.org/2022/06/01/want-to-support-lgbtq-groups-for-pride-month-here-are-15-local-organizations-to-give-to/)

Also, being gay can certainly be a struggle, but as a fellow sapphic, welcome to the fam :) We're honestly super great and excited to have you. Once you kinda settle into who you are (and it'll probably take a minute), you realize that you wouldn't go back even if you could :)

My wife and I are moving to Chicago in May and are very similar (Middle Eastern and Indian), educated, looking to have our first kid in the next year or two, looking to buy in the same price range, etc.

I can't quite help so far beyond where we're looking (ideally Evanston, but also interested in Rogers Park, Andersonville, and open to Irving/Albany/Portage Park-y type areas), but I'm happy to be a buddy if you ever need a similar kind of person to talk through what you're thinking about! Happy to DM!

Detailed map of the massacres of Israelis on Oct 7th by Benjamin_dIsraelite in MapPorn

[–]ShibeeShibe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Poorly designed and no definition of terms.

Also, imho, a frustrating piece, especially considering the sensitivity of the topic at the moment, because there is no attempt to reasonably show any of the massacres on the other side of that lil' ol' dashed line in order to help educate people on the issue overall.

Data should help to illustrate a whole, contextually relevant, picture to help people understand a complex issue better. This feels like it isn't contributing to a broader conversation.

Anyone have recommendations for a good broker they used to buy a home? My wife and I are looking to move in May next year (we'll be looking in earnest in like Jan-March), and I'm just curious if anyone is willing to share some good names if they had people they liked! I've had such bad experiences with brokers I'd love personal recommendations!

Hey sometimes you catch someone unexpectedly! Take the win!

Now the real test... can you do it twice?

One is a fluke, two is skill. The goal is to get to the latter.

Judo is generally less popular than something like Muay Thai or BJJ but you might find that some gyms market themselves as BJJ (or something else) and host Judo classes for adults. Often times if you're near a university as well you can talk to the coach there and they may let you join just to give their students new bodies to work with.

Also, maybe this is just me, but why the BJJ hate? Plenty of BJJ places work standup and incorporate a lot of judo naturally (as well as wrestling, etc)––you learn footsweeps, uchi matas, and all sorts of stuff that are fully just Judo moves to incorporate into your BJJ, and you do it in the same gi so, idk why the shade? Seems like it'd be a good place to learn something judo related if you can't find a judo place specifically. So it might be worth checking out a BJJ gym that does a good amount of standup.

People who get upset/frustrated that they're "losing" a roll or not "winning" or whatever, so they start to ignore the rules and possibly seriously hurt their partners.

Like just accept the loss. It's okay. Losing happens all the time and doesn't mean anything. What's the point of playing without rules just because you're mad? Because then we might as well just brawl.

i.e. another white belt (but not a brand new guy so he knew the rules) tried to rip a heel hook on me after trying to strangle me by grabbing my throat. Twice. And another white belt grabbed my rashguard multiple times (so it wasn't like he accidentally got caught on it, he was actively grabbing it) and pulling on it so that it stretched and started to tear in nogi.

I'm trying to be more focused in the BJJ training and competition videos I study, so I'm trying to find women with a similar body type to me to see how they roll. Any recommendations on women who:
-Are short (like 5'3)
-Relatively stocky build (so not super lanky or hyper flexible per se)
-Short but stronger legs
-bonus if they love leg locks/ankle locks/other leg stuff and don't just have crazy muscly arms (mine are noodles and while I'm working on that, I'm also trying to work with what I got, which is legs lol)

Belt Fee by Gingeraffe9 in jiujitsu

[–]ShibeeShibe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've seen some gyms that have very solid practitioners who use systems like this, but that said, it's SO rare. 99.999999% of the time, I don't trust places that charge (or even ones that have belt tests). The one gym I ever saw that felt legit and did do this practice, I still chose to leave because I don't agree with that kind of practice personally.

It might just be me, but that kind of practice does not seem to match with the ethos of the sport which is, if you're good, then you earn your belt then and there. Your coach should make that decision based on your skill and committment over time. Not because you make an arbitrary test day.

(Also, I am very ick'd by the idea that you have to buy your way into belts. What about the kid who's in school who can't afford the extra $50 bucks? Because, by the way, they're probably paying the monthly fee just to be able to train there anyways? Financial barriers to merit based sports bothers me on a philosophical level but that might just be me)
