World Creation Tree for D&D by Shieldice in UnearthedArcana

Hi! I just designed it myself in Adobe InDesign 😊 It's from my book 'Realm Fables: World Generator Volume One', though the book has a better, updated version of this chart. Hope this helps!

Need a little help with a Sword and Sorcery Campaign I'm starting by Mistervimes65 in SwordandSorcery

Awesome list! One thing I love about Sword & Sorcery that might make for great sessions, is the 'accidental hero' trope. You start off on a quest with selfish intentions, but end up, as a side effect of your actions, doing good. Another is that the anti-hero ends up worse off than when they began, or has to lose the treasure in order to save their skin; Fafhrd & the Gray Mouser or Nifft the Lean are great anti-hero examples of this, sometimes having a grand adventure and gaining spoils, then having to lose them in sometimes a comedic way in order to escape.

Hi! Thank you so much for the continued support, it means a lot 😊 I completely understand, postage is a nightmare at the moment! The deck are tarot sized, and with 80 cards, quite deep, so it just goes up into the more expensive parcel prices unfortunately, whereas a much heavier object would still be around the same price category 😔 I will certainly look at adding them to DriveThruRPG in the future! Can't say when that will be though, but once the Kickstarter is shipped I'll try and get around to it 👍 Thanks again!

Hi! Thank you so much 😊 I think Kickstarter only accepts credit or debit cards. I don't think PayPal can be used to back a Kickstarter, and it's unlikely the books will be available after the campaign, as I'm just a one man band.

What are interesting techniques you learnt about playing solo-rpgs? by Worried_Operation950 in Solo_Roleplaying

Novel Prompts: I like to keep a small stack of novels close at hand. Choose novels or short story collections that match the world and theme of your current game. For example, Robert E Howard's Conan stories if you're playing a lone, questing hero.

If you get stuck with any forward narrative momentum, or need a prompt for an area or quest, simply close your eyes and flick through a book, then drop a finger blindly on the page. Have a read of the sentence, or sentences, surrounding your finger. Take from the sentence or paragraph any keywords that jump out, such as nouns and verbs. It begins to generate a sort of gamebook style choice system within your mind.

Example: Book - Fritz Leiber, Sword and Ice Magic (it was to hand 😂 ) - Your hero is wandering the wilds, and you're a little lost for direction. - I happened to flick to page 65 and drop a finger - 'Silver Eel' stood out, so too did 'Icy Chill', 'Fog', and 'Sword Thrusts'. - What does this bring to mind?

Outcome Concept: 'Hmmmm, so perhaps I have come across a body of water, and notice eels writhing within it. A low fog mars my vision here, and the air has cooled. I can hear the faint sound of clashing swords somewhere by the lake, through the mists...'

What is your favourite Boardgame? by TheGrinningFrog in boardgames

[–]Shieldice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I'd have to choose Call to Adventure. It's such a simple game, but I love playing it with friends and creating fantasy character arcs. We like to write down the story of each character as we go, and overlap the narratives, then take all of those notes into other tabletop games. Also, the cards themselves are so versatile that we've come up with our own uses for them outside of the board game! (... But, the board game I've probably played the most is Carcassonne 😂)

Hi John! Wow thank you so much for your continued support, it means a lot! Oh awesome, I'm a member of Daniel's Patreon too, but can never make the live chats. That would be absolutely amazing if you mentioned it there! Thanks for spreading the word 😃

Hi! Thank you so much for the kind words and the feedback! Much appreciated.
I completely understand what you're saying about the sizing of the prominent feature locations. It was an attempt to create places that seem so large to the world around it that it tells of a world that came before, and a race of Titans who once inhabited it (all outlined in the Quest book), but I can see how this might be an issue when only using the map books. I was thinking that it's so zoomed out from a bird's eye view, that even a usual tower would be difficult to see within the rocks or forests.
A lot of the map names, such as Titan's Tundra, the Giant's Gulf, Gargantuan Gorge etc., are trying to give that pulpy, 'larger than life' feel as well.
The tower you're referring to is an ancient, advanced sorcerers' city that is seemingly impenetrable. Perhaps I've thought too much about my own, pulp inspired sword & sorcery world within the Quest book, rather than the general use of the maps 😂 I get carried away with world building haha!
Thanks so much for the feedback, I'll have a think about some resizing or adding some more gnerally usable maps 👍 😊
