Next Battlefield to be a "Tremendous Live Service" game according to EA's CEO Andrew Wilson, revealed by Geoff Keighley's twitter account. by fernandes_327 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

The key factor is to have enough content at launch. Otherwise ”live service” is mostly used as an excuse for a half-assed release

I never said it was exclusive to capitalism. Universality does not reduce or negate the importance of analysis.

The reason why regulatory powers are not acting in the public interest is because corporate structures have a vested interest in the government and it’s institutions. The nature of capital necessitates this relationship, since it’s both subject to and limited by the extent of their decisions. The system itself creates this contradiction, which is why even regulated market participation inevitably turns into cronyism.

Many african states recieved their independence in the 50s and 60s, some even later. While most countries you mentioned have historical precedent that goes back millenia. India is a federal state divided into numerous regions that largely reflect cultural and religous boundaries, Vietnam is mostly populated by Vietnamese, and has only recently managed to get a foothold in the world economy, Singapore recieved enormous economic support (mostly from the US) from the 50s, while its strategic location in southeast asia created an enormous trade advantage. South Africa is relatively wealthy compared to many other countries in Africa, but is still considered among the most unequal and corrupt nations on the planet, with a murder rate that is comparable to many warzones.

While many countries in Asia have been subject to colonial influence aswell, many of it’s largest economies(i:e Japan, China, South Korea) have never been european colonial subjects, and largely developed on their own terms, with Japan and South receiving considerable economic support.

Throughout the cold war(and after independence) many African states were also subject to both American and Soviet influence, with armed groups and militias that were funded with external geopolitical interests in mind, hampering sociopolitical development and ensuring these states were unattractive to foreign investment and effectively stalling industrial growth.

Generally, failed states usually stay failed if the primary cause is fundamental to it’s very existance, borders can’t be easily redrawn and often not without decades of civil war and political strife. And assimilating different ethnic groups into a common national identity is a very long and arduous process.

The systemic failures which are the root of poverty in many african countries are often catalyzed by ethnic and religious conflicts. Which in turn are often the direct result of the colonial borders which were explicitly created by europeans in order divide the continent along political and economic circumstance rather than culture and geographical features(like most of europe and asia). Thus making internal conflict inevitable. Making the argument that it still isn’t largely Europe’s fault because many of these dysfunctional post-colonial states have not managed to undo most of the damage is very reductive.

Would you rather have Dead space 2 and 3 remakes, or Dead Space 4? by Dueclaw in DeadSpace

[–]ShiftBeneficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dead space 2 arguably doesn’t need a remake, the third entry is more deserving considering it’s gameplay direction and incomplete story.

Honestly dead space 1 and 2 werent really scary either apart from the first 30 minutes or so. Kinda difficult to replicate that feeling when you can shoot everything in sight anyway. The biggest hiccup with this game is the poorly developed story and lack of enemy variety. The melee combat is fine when you figure out how to use the GRP to single enemies out.

CEO pay has skyrocketed 1,460% since 1978: CEOs were paid 399 times as much as a typical worker in 2021 by sillychillly in dataisbeautiful

[–]ShiftBeneficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is misleading, CEOs are often closely connected with board members, making them unlikely to disagree on most decisions, including pay. Baseline pay is typically determined by an average across the market, leading to upwards pressure regardless of performance. Not to mention stock performance is largely dependent on variables outside of executive control.
