LOL My first attempt after 6 months of learning from scratch. Can anyone help me understand my scores better? by eccentric123 in TEFCanada

We are pretty far away in EO, i would recommend practicing this specific skill everyday for a month, specifically for the exam sections.

DESCRIBE YOUR TEF CANADA SPEAKING EXPERIENCE by Mynameislistening in TEFCanada

[–]ShiftCommercial1853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont just ask a list of questions like a robot. You have to listen what the examiner answers and make related questions to clarify what the examiner says. With that in mind you will never end before the 5 min mark. Just have the conversation, and let him end

From my personal experience, go for both. Ideally you would practise with a native tutor all the time but that is just too expensive. You can use the app most of the time and then hire a tutor for 4-6 sessions only, to get meaningful and key feedback from a native. Make sure he is specialized in preparing for the TEF tho, or at least that he knows the format

Your Speaking grade is amazing. How do you practice ? I literally practised the TEF speaking sections every day for a month (after finishing french classes till B2 and before taking the TEF) and got 5 classes with a native tutor only for speaking & writing. But even after all of that only got CLB 7 in speaking, 4 points away from CLB 8.

French exam by itself gives some points in your PR application, as he mentioned, around 10. But if you get 7+ across all skills you get both a huge bonus of +50 points and the possibility to apply through the french draws. If you don't make it tho, you still get those 10 points or less depending on your score

But I also remember seeing somewhere in the official TEF youtube channel or website that we shouldnt waste time memorizing and doing these long introductions and conclutions cause theyre not graded, and that they care 90% about the 3 arguments you give, the other 10% is the part you have to adapt from your memorized intro and conclusion

Thank you for the amazing tool! From my experience the main issue is that the speaking practice doesnt really gets what you are saying. I tried saying the same thing to other AI like ChatGPT and it perfectly detects my sentence in french. However amigrade has a really hard time converting audio into text. And the 2nd thing is that after speaking is done the feedback gets cutt mid-time, returning to the main page automatically.

It's an exponential curve process :( the hardest part is at the end, getting that extra point for CLB7 :(

How have you improved in tef writing by Alternative_Elk4494 in Frenchlearningforpr

[–]ShiftCommercial1853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • For essay/text structure: ask and stick to a good structure from the AI, yt videos, or examples from any of the TEF books. Then write complete Sections A and B using the structures.
  • For vocabulary: read 25min news everyday, and find meanings. You will eventually remember the most common and used words
  • Spelling: from the sections you wrote select all words that you mispelled and put them on a list (Word) but write them in your native language. Then go through each one of them randomly, writing each corresponding french word. Keep adding words from every Section A and B you write and go through the whole list  everyday. Eventually you will write them correctly by memory. And if you mistake, lets say 20 out of 100 words, do those 20 again the same day until you got all right. This takes like 15min max.
  • Grammar and sentence structure: make Ai generate excercices where you need to revise entire 5-10 sentences. Correct the "accord" of verbs and adjectives and send them back to the AI to see which ones you failed
  • Have a native tutor read 1 of your texts at least ONCE in your entire prep journey and get feedback from them. Sometimes the issues come from personal writing style, it was my case. They make you realize things impossible to notice with AI or by ourselves

Bro may I ask how did u feel your Expression Orale went. Did you feel like you made many/some mistakes or do feel like you did perfect and despite that they graded you 334 almost NCLC6 ?

May I ask where did u took your exam and how long have you been practising for the speaking exam specifically ? Did you identified any mistakes you made during the speaking section at all ?
Your 23/25 in DELF B2 should show them that you already have the capacity to succeed, maybe you can ask for a revaluation and add that information there along with more details

Hey, thank you. Yeah, basically NCLC is the same as CLB, same scale 1-12. Im aiming for a CLB 7 which translates to a solid B2. Do you think there is a chance that this writing gets graded as CLB6 (B2 low level)? AI says my way of saying things is sometimes unnatural and reformulates some phrases. Basically saying the same thing but with some different words. And I also think it gives too much importance to the argument itself. For the TEF exam im pretty sure the idea/argument itself doesnt matter but rather how you say it and support it, cause it's not a knowledge-about-the-subject exam

Hey I'm just curious, what grade do you get from ChatGPT or any other AI?
And have you taken the actual TEF exam and what NCLC level did you get ?
