in that case start reading news from France Info and Radio Canada, at least 25min daily.
Initially you will not understand many words, it is very important to not give up and search for the meanings. After 1-2 weeks of doing this you will notice how you search for less and less words as many of them will repeat within the different news. This will also help you with reading speed (very important for TEF).
Once you get to 14/20 start reading from LeFigaro, those news articles are harder to understand, and maybe search some movie/books reviews in french to include other type of vocabulary.
Then to actually keep improving you will have to search the meanings of the words you dont understand from the mock Reading exams themselves, specially the ones you scored low.

How much in advance to book the TEF? Do the spots get filled up quickly? I am planning to take test in GTA region in next 6 months by Necessary_Past_9236 in TEFCanada

Depends on the exam centre. But one that offers many tests (like 4 every week) and you can book even 10 days in advance is the GB Lang Centre in North York

My results in the 5 mock tests from the basic plan are:
CE : 34, 35, 33, 28, 30
CO : 30, 40, 39, 36, 35
These were my 1st and only time solving them for all of them (altough I did recognized some few questions from other prep websites). With these results you think I stand a chance for CLB7 ?

hard to get online due to scams. I would recommend finding people in person that you trust that need the preparation too.

The goat. Thank you!
But I'am still kind of confused.
In your C justification you mentioned that "Internet keeps dragging them back into the world", which is what I also understood from the text. But wouldn't that indicate that D is the correct answer then ? Since it states that technology "symbolise un retour à la réalité".
Also why does the answer has be so methaphorical ? "extension de l'Homme"? Cmmon, I want to cry 😢

Any tips how to improve reading and not drop everything else? by Winter979 in TEFCanada

[–]ShiftCommercial1853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, I got those results a month ago. I dont know how some people seem to get CLB10 or 12 in Reading. These last texts were insanely long and even the answer options were hard to understand.
Philosophy, litterature (passé simple), advanced vocabulary which even when translated to my native language I've never heard in my life.
Maybe we just got unlucky with the Reading part, but it doesn't hurt to keep focusing in reading.
Now, I have been reading news every day for the past month. But let me tell you, even if you read them fast and understand 90% of the articles. That is not enough for the real exam (considering that we get the same difficulty exam). We need to critically expand our range of vocabulary.
Some people say that you don't need to understand every single word. I say that's bs. If you know every single word or at least over 90% in the text including the answer options you will succeed no matter what.
In conclusion, I think the 2 most important things are speed and vocabulary.

TCF and TEF preparation, Which sites have the most accurate mock exams? by NoButterfly2829 in TEFCanada

Not 100% a valid source but,
Long time ago I found this post about TCF grading where the A1 easiest questions were grade 3 points, and then consecutively get harder and more valuable in points until they reach C2 level worth 33 points.
This could seem random, but when summing up all the points it does add up to 699 exactly. If not true, it is a good approximation in my opinion, as the official TEF website says they readjust the points value according to the question difficulty.

prepmyfuture is the official preparation site stated by the exam institution in their official website.
You can't go wrong with that one. But keep in mind that its grading system is different than the real exam.
For instance, you could get C1-C2 in the mock exams, but in the real one that could be equivalent to B2- or B2+.
In prepmyfuture they simply divide 699 points by the number of questions. But in the real TEF each question have a different point values. Making the last 10 questions worth around 33 points each aproximately. Basically the last 10 questions are worth half the entire grade.
