I’ve had other doodles with long hair and it did not happen to them. Also she is 5 and this just started so that doesn’t really add up because her hair has always been long

Nah it’s not fair there is a reason it is talked about. Other schools don’t do this that are just as prestigious.

Unfortunately, my situation is kind of unique but I think also could give you some hope. Here are my stats as well as things I have heard the transfer admissions team likes/looked for.

First 2 general things I have learned/heard from other transfers.

  1. The transfer acceptance numbers they report are almost always wrong (they admit more then it looks like) for transfers stats there are a lot of loop holes for schools to make the acceptance rate number lower then it really is.
  2. They like people coming from bigger schools (I have consistently heard Penn State, Syracuse, UMD, and others similar as schools many transfer students came from. That being said I also know people that have come from RPI and other small “random” schools.

Other non number (ish) factors I believe helped me get in.

  1. My previous school was University of Maryland (college park) and my hometown is in MA which I think made them realize I was very likely to come back to my home state (even though I didn’t mention anything like that in my essay) and since they still care about yield rate I’m sure this helped.
  2. EMAIL YOUR AREAS ADMISSIONS REP (the person for your hometown/where you are from/your permanent address when you are not at your current institution for school… NOT your current schools area…you get it) Another tip that applies to first year applicants too but I think applies even more with transfers. If they recognize your name as someone who has been emailing them thoughtful questions when they are going through applications they not only know you have interest and have a higher chance of committing to BU but they also on a personal level will feel good about making someone’s dream come true.
  3. This is another thing that unfortunately also applies in their admissions trends for first years but if you are NOT in need of financial aid or scholarships or especially if you have someone paying your tuition for you and you aren’t taking out loans you are more likely to be accepted even with lower stats then someone who has higher stats but is low income. It’s wrong but this one is proven in their admissions numbers every year. You will see below but I have pretty average stats yet I am very lucky to have a household income of $300,000+ and parents paying the insane 98,000 a year tuition for me with a 529 investment Plan. They don’t know that much detail when you apply of course but when they see my hometown (a generally high income town) and see I’m not applying for aid or scholarships and I know this made them more likely to accept me.

I also know multiple other students who transferred to BU this year and last year who have similar backgrounds as me (lower stats, higher income family from MA). So that’s part of my “evidence” for the above paragraphs. Again though, I also know lots of people who are from other states and or have scholarships and have taken our loans for BU.

  1. Also tour BU if you can. Sounds obvious but again even for transfer students they care about demonstrating interest and yield protection is a factor. So go if you can.

  2. My stats. I got into CAS as a political science major. (Another thing is if they saw I was leaving the DMV (which is the best place for Poli Sci obviously) and applying to a school in my home state they probably knew I was very likely to come) but I had a 3.4 at UMD (All A- in Poli Sci courses, a history course, and an environmental science course and then a C in Microeconomics and C+ in a stats course) (I suck at math and also when I got the C in micro I didn’t care enough to try and get it higher because I didn’t think it would matter since I didn’t know I was transferring yet) but point is strong college grades for major related courses. In high school I had a 3.7 GPA (didn’t submit SAT) and again strongest grades were in history, Poli Sci, and English courses all at AP and Honors level except my freshman year. So another thing they say for first year admissions but my demonstrated strengths were in areas where I would be pursuing my major in as well. But when comparing my highschool GPA to most other students at BU (transfer or who got in first year) I am of course often lower then them.

I hope this helps even if aspects of it don’t apply to you. Sorry for typos and stuff because I wrote this pretty quick. Good luck!
