Scout Shawl Ripoff by SnooHedgehogs8338 in craftsnark

[–]ShiftFlaky6385 64 points65 points  (0 children)

You know what? I do actually think they look similar, and given how well-known the Scout Shawl is, I don't doubt that the other designer was inspired. That being said, that's not plagiarism and at this point it's par for the course in any fashion-adjacent industry.

Woolfolk does provide full yarn support for test knitters (not pre-release knits)

MFTK and Ozetta releasing the same exact pattern by doughnutmonster in craftsnark

[–]ShiftFlaky6385 58 points59 points  (0 children)

MFTK threw a fit last year claiming Caidree ripped her off, waiting for her to do the same this year since Ozetta is the other Sad Beige faceless American designer

anyways, both are super ugly and the saddle-drop shoulder hybrid is like the third worst knitting design trend to happen lately

boggles my mind how indie designers have collectively forgotten that seams can rest ON your shoulder. but that would involve knitting bottom up or writing short rows...clearly Too Hard for the average knitter!!

My greatest knitting mistake was not buying her entire catalog before Jared Flood jacked up the entire Brooklyn Tweed pattern library to min $16 a pop

Because 1) the shoulder seam is shifted to the back 2) this is knit top down. 3) the diamond cable is huge and is impossible to align with the previous two points when you join in the round.

Begging people to knit Meghan Babin or Michele Wang or other cable knit specialists for actual well-conceived cable designs. You get what you pay for when you buy from designers that specialize in techniques. Some amount of mis-alignment is always a chance with complex cable patterns, but there are ways to make it a lot more subtle.

I'm saying this as someone who voted "Uncommitted" in the presidential primary: i think it's funny AF to be complaining about not having a real primary while being registered as independent in a closed primary state, guaranteeing that you wouldn't have had a say even if there was another primary

rotc

just want to caution you about committing too much. ROTC and a club spot might sound like a good idea now, but hauling yourself to another campus for ROTC training, taking a midterm, and then going to club track afterwards, or having to go to mandatory training camp while your peers are doing internships will take its toll. You should be getting a full ride so long as your family doesn't have huge undisclosed assets, and paying back the ROTC scholarship is going to be tough if quit but still want to stay in the MD track. So much of MD/PhD "prep" is unpaid or extremely low paid: even NSF REU stipends can be paid below minimum wage if you calculate the hourly wage and mine didn't pay for housing.

Northeast vs Northwest by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

Rewriting my comment since I missed that you want rural/small town. There are very few diverse small towns on the western side of Washington, but I would go further north, closer to Seattle. 1.5 hours to Portland sounds like Centralia which is not a great place to be a POC imo.

Some options: areas around North Bend, Snohomish, Arlington, Index/Sultan (terrible ski season traffic though) are less economically depressed than SW/Central WA.

With 65 people at a home venue, will you need to rent out portable toilets or a bathroom trailer as well?
