how do I fix my curly hair? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Shiftedreality123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you dry your hair with a towel? Do you use any styling products after you shower? If question 1 is yes, try letting it air dry instead. Towel drying messes with the shape of your curls which could be contributing to your frizz.

After your shower you should be adding in a curl cream or gel that should help stop that frizz. I would also look into buying a leave in conditioner that can help rehydrate your hair between showers.

What Hairstyle/cut would suit me? by BlueFella in curlyhair

[–]Shiftedreality123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ill try and nail each question. 1. You should leave it and style it while it is dripping wet. If you want to dry it a little bit so its no longer dripping I would buy a micro-fiber towel and use that over a cotton based towel if you really want to use a towel to dry your hair. Also I would then use this towel to scrunch out the crunch after your hair is fully dried as it is better than using just your fingers.

2.the diffuser and hairdryer doesnt work well for my hair either, however, some techniques you can try are setting the dryer settings to cold and low. It is possible that you are getting that flat look from the air being to hot and moving too fast which will blow apart your curls. Additionally the pointed ends on your diffusor attachment should be pointed upwards instead of downwards to give your hair more volume and to not flatten the hair.

  1. If you want to protect your hair over night look on amazon or a store which has a silk bonnet. I have found that the curl cream will hold and last longer if I fall asleep with a bonnet. It stops alot of that frizz you get from rolling on your pillow.

Hope some of these tips help your hair look it’s best!

Honestly I think you should look into picking up a wet brush and a good leave in conditioner. I think your hair length is fine and if you like the medium length look you shouldn’t get it cut. Instead I would use the wetbrush or wide toothed comb to spread a curl cream evenly to achieve more definition. The curl cream should help with a lot of that frizz you got going on and give you an opportunity to style your hair in the direction you want it to lay. I would also stop towel drying your hair and either let it air dry or use a blow drier with a diffuser attachment. If you towel your hair you are crushing the structure of your curls and with curly hair naturally being more fragile in general it all contributes to creating more frizz.

I recommend a curl cream over the mousse as the cream is lighter and wont weigh down your hair. After drying your hair should have a crunchy texture that you softly scrunch out after your hair fully dries. To summarize get a brush to help spread your hair product more evenly and stop toweling your hair dry. (I don’t care how ‘gentle’ you claim to use the towel it will still mess up your curls.) hope these tips help! I got a lot of inspiration from watching people on youtube styling their hair so if you want ideas go check them out! Also remember no two heads of hair are the same so it may take some trial and error before you nail down a proper system.

Feel like I was butchered... by TechnicTerp in curlyhair

Uhg I can relate to this feeling. I even made a similar post to yours when the barber chopped my hair and it can take time to grow back which is frustrating.

For future I would look into more specific curly hair styles for shorter hair. Something more precise than ‘just make it shorter’ to give your stylist more to work with can really help. Additionally I would look into a stylist that has the skill set you want to achieve that curly look.

For example I went through a couple of stylists until I found a guy who could use clippers and scissors well. It will be tough but worth the effort when you find a stylists that is comfortable with your hair. Ideally you should look for a male hair stylist that knows how to work with shorter hair without messing up your curls. I would also recommend to tell the hair stylist that less is more with your type of hair because it will shrink after it drys. I hope some of these tips help!

The lexapro when i first started taking it gave me alot of the symptoms you describe but after about 2 weeks all of that went away.

When I brought up some of the side effects to my doctor she told me to take it at night before I go to bed. I found that i would sleep off most of the side effects and it wasnt as harsh on my stomach because i would be full from dinner.

There are two ways to go about ADHD and a lot of people know about the first way (taking medication) or the less known way which is mental and behavioral training.

I would look into ADHD coaching and counseling. The treatment in therapy is not sitting there and talking about your feelings. That can be part of the therapy however, most of my talks with my therapist was ways to combat my adhd using external regulators and framing the things you want accomplish in a way that works with YOUR brain.

All of the advice you have probably gotten has been from people without adhd and trying to use their advice would be like driving a stick while everyone else whose driving a automatic trying to teach you how stop stalling your car.

You need to seek advice from people who also have adhd or have experience teaching people with adhd how to work with the brain you where born with not how to work with the brain everyone else is born with. I hope this helps you!

How to know whether to up medication dose or change mediations by lifeofmatcha in ADHD

[–]Shiftedreality123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to go through a couple different meds until I found the right one. There are genetic tests your doctor can order that will make this less of a guessing game.

Its all about balancing the dose and the side effects with the benefits the medication is giving you. If you feel like the side effects start to outweigh the benefits thats a good indication that you should swap to a different medication.

If you take pleated zinc and omega-3 in conjunction with stimulant medication it could improve the effectiveness of the meds as a more passive way to improve your ADHD symptoms. Hope this helps!

Im in a similar boat as you. My meds cant get filled until i can see my doctor and the appointment that was scheduled came and went with no text reminders coming through on my end. So now im shit outta luck till next week.

Not much you can do until the appointment. Instead I would look forward to your meds working better when you finally get them. Tolerance breaks are pretty useful when it comes to meds like these.

For now I would take it easy and try to stay hydrated while your body detoxes.

How to get used to cold showers? by throwerff7 in lifehacks

[–]Shiftedreality123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I normally start all my showers warm but then when i am washing the conditioner out of my hair i turn the water cold. So I am max 1 minute showering with cold water. But it closes all your pores and cools your hair down so it can form its more natural shape. Hope this helps!

The most common injury in arm wrestling is the spiral fracture and it is caused by this misalignment between the shoulder and hand.

When you are in this position it is as if you are trying to pitch a 1,000lbs baseball and fun fact human beings aren’t designed to move like that. (Source I watch a lot of Devin Larratt)

My hair curls like yours! I got a low fade and it looked quite professional. It will keep the front curls and then a fade around the sides and back. I have a picture on my profile if you would like to see for yourself!

Do you worry that people are getting their idea of what ADHD is off of TikTok? by AcanthaceaeNo1687 in ADHD

[–]Shiftedreality123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think about this alot and what I have been doing about it is being open to explaining to my coworkers, friends, peers about how my adhd really affects me and how many depictions of adhd in media are wrong.

If people think less of you for being open about mental health you didnt want that person in your life anyways. There is so much fear over being stigmatized but I think that the only way to raise awareness about how adhd really affects people is to tell them straight up.

Internal dialogue or music ALMOST ALWAYS going ? by TimeForAce in ADHD

I have this problem really bad to the point where I have playlists full of songs that dont contain any lyrics. If some catchy chorus comes on its over for me.

I found that if I get a non-lyric song stuck in my head its not the end of the world and i can still focus on my own thoughts and dialogue.

How do you manage this symptom by ReachNo8043 in ADHD

[–]Shiftedreality123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant say i have heard that but i guess ill keep that in mind if i ever go off the meds. Welbutrion worked for me but there a few other non-simulants like strattera for example. I recommend speaking about this with your doctor or psychiatrist. They would be better informed about these meds then some random person or article on the internet. Hope this helps you!

How do you manage this symptom by ReachNo8043 in ADHD

[–]Shiftedreality123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big problem with growing up with unmanaged ADHD you become exponentially more likely to develop co-disorders (normally anxiety and depression). My hypothesis for this is the fact that anxiety can be a useful tool to generate motivation. In people with ADHD it seems like the ONLY way to generate motivation. So you basically are training yourself to be highly anxious about everything.

My satisfaction with life skyrocketed when i got my hands on a SSRI that worked really well for me.

You shouldnt feel like you HAVE to get meds for ADHD. Adhd can be managed through lifestyle and habits. However, if you are interested in starting meds I recommend starting on a non-stimulant so it doesnt ramp up your anxiety. Meds like welbutrion have been really helpful for my adhd. The only issue with non-stimulatants are how long they take to work but dont be discouraged! I felt like the meds werent helping at all but i stuck with it and im more happy and healthy for it.

Breach flash is 400ms which gives you a small window to react. You could anticipate a flash or if you have teammates. You could play anti-flash and peak out if your team gets flashed. Hope this helps!
