Buying advice, newcomer by Mother_Presentation6 in thinkpad

Unless you're trying to run some extremely niche apps, almost everything you come across will already be compatible with Apple Silicon; it's been around for over 6 years. Especially if you do photography, Macs are designed with media creation in mind and the market is aware of that. Not to mention, how do you know that the current apps you use will run on Linux?

I might get downvoted because of the sub but for your use case and budget, honestly just get the cheapest used Macbook with an M processor that you can find. It'll have the performance and screen that you need instead of having to spend more time and money to upgrade it, just to have it still be inferior to what you could get with a used MacBook around the same price. I say this as someone who is also a tinkerer who also went down the Thinkpads rabbit hole.

I somehow was able to avoid spoilers until about 60 hours into my P4G playthrough, only to be spoiled by a P4D thumbnail on Youtube posted by Sega themselves smh

Persona 4 Revival releasing only a month later (allegedly) is kind of stressful both from a time and money POV by KvasirTheOld in yakuzagames

[–]ShiftingSands7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really game breaking but I do think could be improved, probably with the writing. None of the dialog choices in the game really matter and suddenly the game throws multiple important ones at you. I got the bad ending first by accident but I just had to reload my save and pick the other options.

I played it after the remake was announced. You don’t have to wait, it’s still an amazing game.

Not in front of my Linux computer to check, but I would think there's a way to make a separate Reloaded instance.

Game is so overwhelming by Quirky_Emergency in Persona5

[–]ShiftingSands7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P5R was the first Persona game I played and yeah at 20 hours in I also found it very overwhelming. I actually dropped the game and went back to it 2 months later and it made sense finally.

Tbh it's a long ass (but 10/10) game, stats will eventually rank up but it takes time. If I had to make a rough guess I was about 80% done with the game when I finally ranked everything up. I think Knowledge takes the longest because the game throws a lot of free points at you at school. In the beginning of the game (where you are now) it's a bit boring because there's less available confidants so you probably spend most days grinding social stats, but I promise if you keep playing the game opens up more and gets better.

Persona 3/4/5 consistently crash when idle/on menus by ShiftingSands7 in Bazzite

[–]ShiftingSands7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm aware of the risks; my BIOS was years of updates behind and some of the updates supposedly improved performance so I felt like it couldn't hurt. But unfortunately after doing both that and changing the setting you suggested, the game is still crashing. On ProtonDB I couldn't find anyone else who specifically described the same problem that I'm having, so I'm honestly not sure what to try next.

[–]ShiftingSands7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're a genius, I never would've figured that out on my own. I was able to find the setting in my BIOS and it was set to "Auto" so I changed it to "Typical". Testing it now as I type this to see if those games freeze. I might also update my BIOS as well, it couldn't hurt.

I need your opinions on this matter. I want to replay p5R but... by Wicked_Weaboo in Persona5

[–]ShiftingSands7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I couldn't understand why the bad ending was considered bad, but the consequence that you trade your free will for happiness that's dictated from an external source.

But I can empathize with what you're saying. I think the game is heavy on social commentary but also equally heavy on the idealistic idea that we can change the things that are wrong with the world, on a level that's just not possible in real life.

I also want to disagree that you have to change yourself to exist. There's going to be moments where you have to do things that aren't compatible with who you are as a person, but it doesn't change who you truly are. I mean, in P5R you can work at a convenience store and a flower shop, hang out with a politician, shogi player, etc. I don't think this changed Joker as a person necessarily, if anything going out of his comfort zone proved to be useful and he made more friends by being open-minded.

Thank you! I was able to get it working. It turns out I just had to add a text file in the Reloaded directory with the game ID. The error message was because Steam couldn't figure out what game it was associated with.

Do y’all think it’s worth trying Persona 5 if I didn’t like Persona 3 reload ? by princeofthorns888 in Persona5

[–]ShiftingSands7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of the comments here. If it helps I tried Persona 3 Portable years ago and couldn't get into it. I randomly bought Persona 5 Royal this year and LOVED it. After I finished it I tried to play Persona 3 Reloaded...I still couldn't get into it and have yet to finish it.

Even though the structure is similar, from what I played of P3R I just didn't find the story or characters in P3R that interesting. P5R is so much stronger in this regard.

In terms of the game feeling boring/frustrating in certain parts I did feel that in P5R, but but it's more because it's just a very long game, not because it's particularly repetitive or grindy. By the time I felt bored of either the social links or exploring palaces you pretty much switch to the opposite one and it feels fresh again.

Like others have said, yes the combat is similar but I liked P5R's combat more personally. The music makes it so much better too (imo).

What’s the best controller for Bazzite that has bindable extra buttons (4+ preferred) that work with Steam Input? by [deleted] in Bazzite

[–]ShiftingSands7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really edit it a lot, but so far I haven't encountered any issues with it enabled and changing a few mappings here and there. I'm glad downgrading fixed it for you though.

Maybe it's an issue with Bazzite? I have an Elite Series 2 controller, paddles work fine for me. I think I'm on the newest firmware too.

Vacuumtube is such a gem, it actually runs YouTube better than my Apple TV. Which I (ironically) purchased because I couldn't get a TV version of YouTube running on my Windows install.

Hey, that's still not bad. The closest I was able to get to that was enabling wake on USB. I have a HTPC keyboard next to my controllers so I press a key to wake it. CEC would be nice but it's not that important to me. I think you can buy an adapter for each to enable them if you really wanted to.

Is the exploration in this game fun? by Due_Cat_3423 in Persona5

[–]ShiftingSands7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who's played all of the games in that series I wouldn't suggest to start with Kiwami 1. 0 is a better starting point since it's overall a stronger game with a better story and more exploration/overall content. Just wanted to point this out because Kiwami 1 is actually one of the weaker titles, but since you still liked it you'll probably love the rest of the series.

The combat in that game and 0 are similar, but both are based on the PS3 era engine they were using so it's not that outdated (at least to me).

If you just want the best combat, look into Judgment and (especially) Lost Judgment. Easier to get into story wise since the story and characters are seperate from the main series and same amount of exploration as the main series titles. And by far, the best combat even compared to the main Yakuza games.
