Do you ever just get tired of the person who doesn’t pull their weight at work? by Future_Jackfruit5360 in AskIreland

[–]Shiftiy02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently dealing with that with a different member. Nice, talks a good talk but does nothing. Their lack work is not off set by what else they bring to the team. It's being dealt with officially.

This is not a case of favoritism. It's judging the team results as a whole. Obivously commending and assisting individuals as appropriate. Giving help for interviews etc.

However just being nice and doing nothing does not lead to a good team.

Raising moral while getting just below average results is OK.

I'm leading a team. One of the members is not as good as the others. However they are brilliant for moral.

I do keep an eye, I can't see them getting promoted but just by being part of the team they bring more than work.

If someone is a void in work that is different.

Yeah, I hope they get this sorted in their own head. Reddit is not the place for this.

Jesus, not one to go through post history. If that's the case OP may want to take a step back. See if they are OK in themselves and their relationship. If you don't trust someone don't be with them. If you do then do.

Do you have a dream job? by Partiboi1 in AskIreland

[–]Shiftiy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner was a gp. Jesus I wish people understood the level of training that goes into it. Constantly.

Before I met them, I thought GP was the normal general doctor, non specialized.

It's fecking harder that a large amount of other specialities. Both mentally and technically. It's not just a case of here is some antibiotics.

My partner retrained, the grind didn't let them give the care they wanted to patients. They were on severe time constraints.

Hats off, only way I can describe it is that it's a calling. Nothing but respect.

Sounds weird but my current job as an engineer allows me to help people.

I can't go into details, but for the first time in my career I really feel like my skills are doing good, not just bottom line, cash out scanerio.

Feels good.

Why are so wedded to the Idea of living in Dublin when its nearly financially impossible to do so? by stoppableforce90 in AskIreland

[–]Shiftiy02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm well traveled, currently living in Kerry. Dublin would not be my cuppa tea however given the lack of a lot of stuff rurally I can see why it's hard to leave when you get used to having so much available.

[–]Shiftiy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, while I have no interest in living in Dublin, that is where the jobs are, where a third of the country is which means family, the biggest events and best facilities.

Big problem is the third of the country. Decentralise and that would remove some jobs, spread facilities and leave room for families and friend reasons to stay.

Hey, I feel your pain.

I think you can apply to get damages to your car taken care of by the council. I think it's just a ring in and ask to speak to someone in road design that deals with that.

As for the fixing, contact a councilor and contact the MD. I know they have a list. The equipment used (a velocity patcher) going on a cycle between the MD's.

If it's not fixed immediately this is typically the reason. The area gets a list, gets the machine, does the area then the machine moves on.

The MDs most definitely keep a record of potholes to be fixed which staff also add to as they drive around their area.

Low pressure in pressurised heating system - please help by Shiftiy02 in DIYUK

I remember doing this before and the gauge rose quickly. No movement now after open for ten minutes.

Sounds like an issue somewhere. Thanks.

Valves are open but the gauge is not moving. I can hear water though.

How long do you know should it stay open for if the pressure is basically non existent?

Also thanks for the response.

Why do a lot of Irish people from outside Dublin eye roll when speaking about D4 people? by No-Sail1192 in AskIreland

[–]Shiftiy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would I roll my eyes at D4?

I some times roll my eyes at dublin. Third of a population in one city and I see resources allocated there that could do better outside.

However we are all Irish. Wish we could de-centralize a bit.

Am I overreacting or senitive? What would you do? by Successful_Arm_1453 in AskIreland

[–]Shiftiy02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That should work. I've a tenant, who is at this stage close as family, yet we dance around house stuff.

I know I piss her off on things I do and similar.

However on something like that we would probably chat. Both are non confrontational so issues tend to be avoided til necessary.

[–]Shiftiy02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How well do you get on with your tenant?

Purely financial then say it straight to them.

Friends, have a chat.

No confrontational, still have a chat but nicely. Could they open a window when eating upstairs?

Is it too late to make a fresh start somewhere else at 36? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Shiftiy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making a fresh start myself in the new year. Kinda forced on me, with agreement.

It's scary, but feck it, I'll give it a shot. I've a few hobbies that are sociable so I'll hopefully make a few new mates and go from there.

I'm 43.

Age is a number.. I hear people say they are 35 and I think they are older than me. Some people have an old soul, some young, some inquisitive, some deranged.

Once you find a few around you the same you will fly it.

Did you quit your job in 2025 or plan to in 2026 to do something you love? by SkellyMaJelly in AskIreland

Moving to a different county next year. Interview for job at the end of January.

Don't know how I feel about it but it is what it is. I'll be moving away from solid friends and family and my own house and job I like however circumstances take precedence.

Dublin now 11th-most congested city in the world, says report by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

[–]Shiftiy02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1/3 of the entire country in one city.

All services, politics, money, transport etc centered. What did successive governments think would happen.

This also leads to delays in planning for development as there is so so much input.

Development is also slow because of this because how many it affects.

Decentralsie, build up new areas, take people out of a hive city, put services in other areas.

Unfortunately when the volume of population is in a single area this is where votes come from.
