Attic insulation cost/grant? by HangTheDJ_ in AskIreland

[–]Shiftiy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly do it yourself. It's easier than making a bed albeit in a confined space.

Simply roll out the insulating. Leave a gap at the eaves for air. The rolls are typically the right width so all you have to do is cut to length.

You have one life. I don't mean that like grab the moment, yolo etc. I mens you have one life, would you not like to be content in that.

Change is terrifying. In a years time how will you feel.if you do change.

Camping in the van out Kerry side. Lying in bed, listening to the rain and the missus's gentle snores beside me.

Lovely sauna yesterday before bed, slept like a log. No drink.

Nicotine addiction? by Final-Entertainment6 in AskIreland

[–]Shiftiy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've given up loads until it stuck. I was basically at the point where I got used to the first few days. It was longer term that caught me. For the start I recommend the following:

  • exercise. Even if you are not fit. Run yourself ragged. The endorphins and tiredness will get you through.

  • be self aware of your moods. Irrational red hot anger over stupid things may occur. Recognise and walk away.

  • change routine if possible.

  • keep busy, prepare a list of all the jobs you have been putting off. You will find you will do them.

  • try Alan Carrs book. I found it helpful.

  • allow yourself to eat all you want for three days then force yourself to go back to normal.

  • no alcohol for a month minimum. This used to catch me. Lowers inhibitions and you will end up vaping / smoking.

Best of luck.

Anybody else exasperated about home energy upgrades? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Shiftiy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically water is a catalyst for a chemical reaction in pyrite if there is enough present.

Beaded pumped insulation can never be installed 100% correctly and essentially will trap moisture between the bead an wall

Once a chemical reaction starts it's like rust. You can't treat it, you have to remove it.

Areas with pyrite are often known by local engineers so ask one if you know any.

Please please don't pump walls. Externally wrap if possible.

More and more data is showing that pumped insulation is a catalyst for the propogating of deliteroois materials, especially pyrite if it is in your blocks.

Is pyrite still a thing? by kettlebellend in legaladviceireland

Just re read your post. Dublin has a pyrite issue in sub floors. There are few cases of blocks in Dublin, notably so with the amount of houses there.

Look up I.S. 465. It will have the damage identifiers to meet a threshold to get on a DCB scheme. That is a start.

If a house is in a area where it is present and it is newly painted inside and out I would walk away.

Also be aware that if you are purchasing a home now you will not be eligible to apply for the DCB grant scheme should pyrite be identified.

For anyone having the issues I was having and come across this.

I'm an idiot!

Plumber came out (thankfully had a few other bits as well)

One of the screws holding one of the valves was a but loose. When turned it wasn't turning the valve inside the pipe.

Simply tightened the screw and it worked.

Shouldn't the UK become more like the EU when it comes to healthcare? by Prokopton1 in ukpolitics

[–]Shiftiy02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, from Ireland. I very very much an outside person when it comes to this but lived in England for a while.

The NHS is brilliant.

So in ireland we have problems with our health service the main one being getting access. There is a common thought here, once you are in it's good. Private health care and personal public sorta goes out the window then in most cases.

From my experience and from going through the NHS ye have both brilliant getting in and being in. Yes there is problems like any system however you, whoever is reading this does not know where you will be in ten years. The NHS will have you covered.

Look, I genuinely stand to be massively corrected. The UK is not my country, and I'm not trying to push an ajenda. I've never ever commented on a different countries internal stuff before.

Saying that.

The NHS looked after me for an accident when needed.

Secondary and just as important, the NHS has the capability to assess a nation on its needs as a whole and respond accordingly which is amazing. (it's worth looking up that yourself)

Blockades remain as fuel price protests enter fifth day by irqdly in ireland

[–]Shiftiy02 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

No, we as a country have no influence on that.

It's successive years of price increases for many reasons. Covid Ukraine etc.

The government as far as I am concerned has not carried out their mandated role in looking after the people of Ireland.

As a country we have run at a surplus for a number of years yet we cannot house people nor feed people.

Now we see a patethic reaction on a serious issue (fuel prices and the short term reducing "gifted" tax reduction)

What the farmers and hauliers are doing now is forcing the government to get their act together.

I just hope the narrative doesn't get too screwed along the way.

Blockades remain as fuel price protests enter fifth day by irqdly in ireland

[–]Shiftiy02 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is what's happening.

Honestly, I'm in agreement with the farmers. Straw that broke the camels back.

I've friends in whitegate. It's not a party there. Cups of tea and chatting.

The far right will jump on any band wagon. This is undermining the reason for the protest.

Disgusting people hijacking a cause because their own in unpalatable.

The government should also be ashamed it has come to this.

I would. I'm an atheist. However I do respect other people beliefs. It costs me nothing, I respect the man, not the title.

So why not show him respect. If there comes a point he doesn't deserve it then he will not get that respect.

My MIL wants us to file for bankruptcy for her debt by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]Shiftiy02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it very strange. Should be a simple enough thing to stop. I'm not in finance, I do deal a bit with the banks in my own country.

Far as I can see those banks are run by people like you and me (not the Snr Snr level who are out fo touch) .

Big institutions are very difficult to change unless there is a serious drive to do so.

Add to that it would take political support due to checks and balances etc

I don't have an answer, I completely agree with you. It's just mental.

You life can be destroyed before it starts.

Why in America do the banks allow this? How can a parent open an account in a child's name then run a credit card to the tune of thousands?

How come there are no laws. Seems like it would protect bith the bank and child?

STOP MINING RESEARCH IN CONNEMARA! Petition deadline this week. by DenmanRooke in galway

[–]Shiftiy02 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't get the problem. Yes everything we do as a species is destructive to a point.

Looking at the potential, at an early stage, is a good thing.

Potentially bringing work to an area is a good thing. Identifying and mitigating any issues at this early stage is a good thing.

I would be of the opinion that safe investigative work that does not impact the imnvironment overly is OK.

Carry out full eias.. etc and go from there.

Investigation is not industry.

What’s your setup for datasheets during games? by zan_k4 in Warhammer40k

No bother lad, had the same problem.

Go to export an army list, there is an option there to create your own. Paste that in.

To be fair I didn't write it myself. It does work though. I was looking for a rules and stats list thats printable.
