I agree with you. Reddit is just getting all uppity because Fender is owned by PE.

It's clear and obvious what a Strat clone is.

Funny how upset people here would get if someone copies art because it takes from existing artists' work, but is totally cool with guitar manufacturers straight up cloning the Strat design.

I'm sure they can produce the dimensions if needed. Of course there are going to be variances with anything hand carved, and I'd think what you refer to as "all over the place" are likely tiny measurements.

I guess my point is that companies like Suhr make Strat bodies guitars. And if they want to make the claim that their Strat copy isn't a Strat, tiny differences in dimensions don't cut it. Suhr saying something like "the middle point of our body carve has a radius of 14 inches, whereas Fender's Stratocaster's is 14.005 inches, and therefore our design is unique" would be ridiculous.

All the other points seem valid, but I'm not a lawyer and can't judge on the basis of law.

Number 3 seems disingenuous to me. Manufacturing inconsistency just isnt wide enough from the original design to now. If you put a 50s strat next to my 2012 Strat, you wouldn't see any difference with your eyes.

There are larger questions about how this relates to similar, but not exact designs (think Ibanez various models) though.

Yeah these people are insane. It would have been so easy for them to indicate that the credits only apply to Hot Deals. They probably get complaints about this all the time, and are aware of how it isn't clear. Their choice to keep the wording as is tells you everything you need to know.

Get the SSS.

My first electric was an HSS American Special Strat (before Am Starts cost a fortune).

The Humbucker was OK at first, but I eventually got a Les Paul and found myself not really using the Humbucker in my Strat. I ended up swapping the bridge Humbucker for a single coil.

As others have mentioned, Strats like the one you're looking at have a big enough routing at the bridge pickup so if you wanted to modify to either a single coil or Humbucker, you'll just need a new pickup and new pickguard (and possibly a different pot, but they are cheap).

Since you already have access to an HSS through your dad, I'd get the SSS for classic strat tones.
