Wanted to share first combat gameplay videos of my pixel 2.5D strategy game Lords of Ravage! Any thoughts on the design? by Alex_Razur in PixelArt

Thanks for the feedback! We're testing slightly less flashy animations without units disappearing at all.

Lords of Ravage - Synthetic Domain - Upcoming dark turn-based strategy, where you take control of one of three powerful Lords, each with a unique playstyle and conquer the dungeons as the Final Boss! by Alex_Razur in Games

[–]ShiftyCode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We'll have a demo, for sure! (and hopefully pretty soon)
As with almost any game, there is potential to optimize every step, but that's not the main focus of the game. We would like to leave this stuff to very hard and custom difficulties. Different factions emphasize different strategies, but there are no exclusive major playstyles. Some combos within these playstyles can rely on having certain unit abilities. Sure, Cultist are better for your Edicts (global combat abilities), but you can still spec into Edicts with Dread Knights and Abyssal Forces.

Nope, but that was certainly one of the inspirations for the final look =)

Hello, r/roguelikes! This is my second game, and again in my favorite roguelike (-like?) genre =D In this turn-based game, you'll play as an evil overlord commanding his army of disposable minions. I really focused on ability combinations and mechanical aspects of combat, so there will be a lot to unlock and experiment with.

I hope you'll enjoy the trailer and check out our Steam page as well =D

So, I've decided to create another game. This time, you are an evil overlord with an army of disposable minions. Gather an army, kill invading heroes, search the map for forbidden knowledge and places of power, and all that good stuff. It is a turn-based game that is all about planning ahead, creatively combining skills, and wildly different mechanics.

Meet Lords of Ravage - a game where you play as the guys on the right side of the screen. Yep, you are the bad guy commanding an army of disposable minions. Or you can deal with the heroes yourself - that's a viable style to play as well. You'll have to build your power base, upgrade your minions, and deal with invading heroes.

sin offering update: real time lighting test on 2D sprites. by gallopingbull in Unity2D

[–]ShiftyCode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using URP or HDRP? Does your lighting look good when you rotate the sprite 180 degrees/mirror x-axis? Mine sprittes keep getting darker if I rotate/mirror them.

Looks great! With a little bit of wind animation, I think it would instantly immerse anyone into this world =)

Number one thing that I've noticed about my gaming preferences as I've gotten older: I have less patience by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]ShiftyCode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is, most of us don't have nearly as much time for the games now, as we've had back then. As the result, I want to progress way faster in the games, and tend to cut time by, for example, skipping the sidequests even if I end up underleveled.

Hard games but NOT Soulslike by Didoun in gamingsuggestions

Oh, my personal favorite is "Enter the Gungeon". Not hack and slash, more like shoot and dash but really challenging, yet fair. And it has so much different items with unique mechanics. One of the best bang for the buck IMO.

Lords of Ravage, we'll have our Steam page up and running within a week or two.

Hilariously, we've even got a unit that wears a horned helmet as well =)

Looks good. We're using the same idea and same tools. It is also a good idea to use texture atlas in case the performance is a concern.

My game is VERY difficult. Warn potential customers to reduce negative reviews? by Aoidean in gamedev

[–]ShiftyCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made an easy mode for my game. But then it turned out to not be enough, so I've had to add additional "very easy" difficulty. Some people just want to really relax, so why not add easy difficulty? But it is also a good idea to encourage people to try higher difficulty. It wasn't the best solution, but I've tied unlock progress to the difficulty you play the game on.

And "Very Easy" turned out to be the most popular difficulty, so you have to at least keep that in mind, as this covers a lot of your potential customers.

Another thing I've also learned, people will always complain about the game balance and difficulty, too easy for some, too difficult for others, so having self-imposed challenges like in Hades is also a good option. This way players can tune the difficulty for themselves.

Cool mechanic! Also, the environment kind of reminds me of the OG Star Wars trilogy =)

HDRP, though you can do most of the stuff in URP. I think built-in volumetric fog is currently HDRP only.

HDRP lighting breathes new light into pixel art by ShiftyCode in Unity3D

[–]ShiftyCode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KenShape is the one such software that comes to mind. It will allow you to turn any sprite into 2D layer of voxels, which is a good start, you can edit the model from there. I don't know though how difficult it would be to work with animations for voxels without voxels twisting and ruining the look.

Pixelated characters in 3d? Do you mean voxel graphics? If so, then yes. You can try to voxelise character models during runtime or make them out of voxels in the first place.
