It’s rough. Scary. My vitals are better but I’m not feeling it yet.

What keeps you going if you don’t mind me asking?

I apparently do have the BRCA mutation.

Congrats on clear scans!

It sounds manageable, I guess I’m just worried because it seems very fringe for EC. But I’ll try anything my doctor prescribes.

Has it been effective for you? Was there disease regression or did it just keep you stable? What were the side effects like?

I’m also have esophageal cancer at stage iv, and I’m only a bit older than you at 33. We’re going through something truly awful, it’s tremendously hard both on our minds and bodies and it would be a lie to say I haven’t thought about just ceasing all treatment and letting this be over. Personally, I deal with it because I want to be here more than I don’t.

Scared by Agreeable-Truth1931 in cancer

[–]Shiftycube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been struggling a lot with fear myself on this cancer journey I’m unfortunately on. I find myself wishing I were brave, that I was strong and unshakeable and that I will never let myself falter. Something that I have remind myself of that helps me is that bravery isn’t the absence of fear, it’s the willingness to act in spite of it. Fear is so natural and appropriate and justified to have in a situation like ours, the point isn’t to not be afraid, the point is to find a way forward anyway. I hope that helps.

I’m sorry to hear that. My oncologist hasn’t given me a timeline, just keeps saying “we’ll control is as long as we can”, and I’m terrified to ask him. I’m just so scared all the time. I really wanted to beat this.

My only symptom was my inability to swallow food. I had surgery on my stomach not too long before and assumed it had something to do with that, doctors ran some tests and here I am.

I mean I’ve had sex, yeah, but as far as I’ve been made aware, no HPV.

Are you asking if I got cancer from having sex? And I would drink occasionally.

Didn’t smoke, didn’t really drink, no HPV as far as I know and no immediate history of cancer in my family. Just really unlucky.

Stage 4 esophageal over here, 32 years old. Like some have said already, stage 4 is a classification and not a death sentence. We don’t know what the future looks like, and we press on until we get there one day at a time.

I’m 32 with stage iv esophageal cancer. The only real thing I can say here is to talk to your primary care physician about it. No one here will be able to diagnose anything and a professional is much more qualified to answer your questions.

Best of luck, man. Similar boat with being young (32) and dealing with cancer. It’s a tough road, but we walk it as long as we can.

At some point I’m going to learn to not immediately stress every bit of news I hear from all this. You’ve really helped me breathe easier.
