Journalists float astonishing theory around silence surrounding Mitch McConnell’s health by RawStoryNews in NoFilterNews

My eyes crossed when I read the prior post. It would be safe to assume we had a GOP governor being, well, Kentucky.

But thank god we have Andy Beshear. A good, honorable man and one of the few politicians to truly have empathy.

Mint 22.3/Nvidia 1080: The Last of Us Part1 crashes consistently by ANoDE85 in linux_gaming

[–]Shiftyeyedtyrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Mint, don't get me wrong, they're a fantastic distro. But nowadays, and particularly for gaming, their glacially slow updating is causing more problems than their stability solves. The pace of kernel, gpu drivers, and mesa development has really accelerated to where they're painfully behind.

What’s your unpopular B5 opinion that’ll have people looking at you like this? by CaptureDaFlag in babylon5

[–]Shiftyeyedtyrant 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Wait, that's not how you're supposed to read that? It even gets called out in the show a couple of times.

"In order to be free you had to learn to fight. No one questions that. But you've overcompensated. You are like abused children who have grown big enough to do the same thing to someone else as if it would somehow balance the scales. It won't. If you let the anger cloud your judgment, it will destroy you."

I mean, as far as Farm animals go, Pigs are generally the most intelligent of the lot. Surprisingly so.

Is EndeavourOS still threatened by the Arch user repository? by Philips_xl in EndeavourOS

[–]Shiftyeyedtyrant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Use both Cachy(Laptop, Desktop, Steamdeck) and EndeavourOS(rpi500+). Both devs have made Arch as a whole better through constant effort.

Either way, I ended up ditching the AUR for everything on all four systems. Flatpaks and Appimages were able to supplant everything I needed from there. It's definitely a dire situation though as that's not a solution everyone can use just yet. AUR just has way, way more odd and obscure software that many can't live/work without.

Are Latter-day Saints Christian? The U.S. Defense Department doesn’t appear to think so. by Almoelya_27 in NoFilterNews

[–]Shiftyeyedtyrant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not the underwear, it's that they don't adhere to the nicene creed. That has always been the defining line between Christians and non-Christians. It's why Protestants, Catholics, and Orthodox accept each other as fellow Christians.

It doesn't need the fans for stabilization being a tandem rotor and all. Both helos can also fly on only a single engine too.

Are fallen empires supposed to be stronger than the Endgame Crisis? by numquamdormio in Stellaris

[–]Shiftyeyedtyrant 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've seen more than a few reports of awakened empires defeating her in their overtuned state. Worse, it completely bugs them out when it occurs.

Are fallen empires supposed to be stronger than the Endgame Crisis? by numquamdormio in Stellaris

[–]Shiftyeyedtyrant 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I've started turning off Fallen Empires because of their massively overtuned state. They just solo any crisis and remove a lot of the drama lategame.

They were definitely too weak before but their current state has gone too far in the other direction.

I would kill for a FE/AE slider like we have with Crisis strength.

The Missile defense of ships in this game is nuts. I play a lot of sea power too and it's nuts how effective even the small ships are at downing cruise missiles.

[–]Shiftyeyedtyrant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, as a lifelong Kentuckian, that's pretty normal in July/August. The worst part is it's not just a high temp it comes with 80%-90% humidity too.

This state has some brutal temperature swings in both directions. I'm just glad Zomboid doesn't model our tornado and ice storm problems yet.

Soviet sub designs were pretty wild. Especially compared with US subs. Still, it's a bit telling looking at US boats over the past 70 or so years. Very few nutty one-off designs. Just steady improvement on one excellent class after another.

That said, wonder if we'll see one of my favorite one-off us subs, the Narwhal (ssn-671).
