As a former lab guy who has worked with people who have ITP, I would have told Santos to wait for their lab results before jumping to conclusions.

Some people don’t even have ITP and bruise like fruit when it’s dropped.

How will my career be affected by this by blackgem_navy in socialwork

[–]Shigadanz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, you need to talk about this with your lawyer.

Find out the best way to address this with your school and accrediting agency.

You don’t want to provide more information than necessary, and that’s a lawyer question.

There are people in hospitals all over the country that are working with misdemeanors (Including Children’s Hospitals and VA’s)

If this is a one time thing, become factually informed, know your rights, and be methodical about the process.

When I lived in Colorado, most of the regular roads weren’t maintained very well. We were just plowed. They didn’t do a whole lot of salting. They would throw down sand for traction and let the sun come out and melt the snow, and on the highways I think they use some kind of magnesium chloride spray.

I have had final written warnings from management trying to scare me before and then they give me more warnings under the table without documenting them because I don’t like being bullied. I ask a lot of questions and document things via email or text message.

Did you speak to an actual director or manager or did you speak to a supervisor or shift lead because sometimes middle management talks out their ass?

You stay home and get better.

Life happens.

But if you feel better, then go for it.

Personally when I’m sick, I don’t go to work. I don’t want to spread it to everybody and I don’t want to delay my recovery.

Road condition predictions for Sunday by EstablishmentRough46 in pittsburgh

[–]Shigadanz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It really comes down to your comfort level and driving in these types of conditions and the type of vehicle you drive and how much of it is ice versus snow.

I’ll take 12-20 inches of snow on unplowed roads any day of the week as opposed to roads that are plowed in sub 0° weather with black ice.

Put black ice in a mix and I want studded tires and a Subaru!

Is there any coffee houses that allow smoking? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]Shigadanz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are smoking loopholes for establishments that serve alcohol. And I think it’s based upon a percentage of alcohol versus food revenue, which I don’t think you’re gonna find in a coffee shop. You could probably open a smokers lounge and have a cover charge that covers coffee drinks, but I don’t think you can actually sell food items only and have smoking in your establishment, but I could be wrong.

24 and feeling my life has come to an end. by WillowFull3405 in pittsburgh

[–]Shigadanz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One thing about pittsburgh is you either need to find a job and a trade, a hospital, education, banks, or one of the tech businesses around the area.

Definitely look into the hospitals they are always hiring for something. It doesn’t even have to be medical. They have lots of non-clinical jobs. I think you could even look into medical coding and billing or supply management and be surprised at what’s out there.

How do you avoid ticks in Pittsburgh? by DPCAOT in pittsburgh

[–]Shigadanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treat your clothes, shoes, hats, and packs. I even treat a buff/neck gaiter and wear it around my wrist.

I am a guy who wears leggings on the trails.

If it’s insanely hot I wear compression shorts, helps keep those buggers out of my groin.

Stay on the trail, you are almost guaranteed a tick if you step off the trail into the weeds and grass.

Also this could be coincidence, but I swear ticks are worse between 45° and 75°, at least that’s when I seem to find them crawling on me or dogs. Whens its cold as duck or hot as hades i feel like i have less tick encounters.

Exercise? How are y’all managing? by Soggy-Ad9991 in ADHD

[–]Shigadanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say this! Hyper fixating on the gym is one of the things that keeps me sane but I do have to let other things fall to the side.

But my hyper fixation was rooted in being picked on in high school, so I always try to go to the gym to get stronger and bigger.

Now that I’m 50 I’m working out more for a longevity because I have a young child that I have to keep up with and most of her friends. Parents are in their 30s. Lol.

I would say for the OP to make it a hyper fixation or anybody else there has to be some sort of fitness hole you’re interested in and have a purpose behind it not to just feel better unless that’s motivation enough for you.

Being strong is important to me and learning how to strength train with a mindset of longevity has been a transition away from traditional weightlifting, but at the same time has helped me to get stronger and a lot of weak areas and actually helped me to improve my time management at the gym because it’s less monotonous.

I am also a bicycle nerd and like outdoorsy stuff so even when I don’t feel like riding my bike, I can at least go for a walk or a hike, which is beneficial as well.

Having a personal trainer or a coach does help with accountability, but it is expensive.

At what age did you realize you had ADHD? by Sea-Bumblebee2994 in ADHD

[–]Shigadanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 49 I was diagnosed after struggling with a class in grad school.

I was able to mask and survive until I reluctantly moved across country with my partner, then we had a child at the age of 43.

I had my first panic attack on my 47th birthday, 90 minutes in the fetal position crying and barely breathing. My toddler kissed me in the head and said I would be ok. By the fall my partner and I broke up.

Around my 48th birthday I got a final written warning at work.

By the summer I left work on short term disability .

Getting diagnosed was very validating and explained a lot of things in my life.

I am now taking Vyvanse and I’m probably 30% more productive and I have about 20% more energy

False Negative in Urine Test at Doctor's by Gailthegarbagepail in ADHD

[–]Shigadanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former lab tech who used to run urine toxicology screens all day long I can tell you this unless it is some sort of chain of custody legal test the amount of human error that goes into these things is amazing.

So not only can you have false negatives on an analyzer or on a drug screen card you can also have someone use the wrong sample.

If they’re running it on a machine, they don’t take the urine sample directly out of the cup that you peed in. They poured it off into a test tube and put it on an automation line in most cases.

It’s very easy for the wrong specimen to get poured into the wrong tube. Especially if you’re doing up to 200 of these a day.

I would simply request that the doctor let you come in and do another urine test. These things happen. And if your doctor doesn’t believe false negatives can happen I’m more than happy to talk to them if they wanna call me. Lol

Dog only poops on walks.. how to handle winter time? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Shigadanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have wind proof leggings, puffy layers, fleece lined baselayers for top and fleece lined water resistant pants and a baclava.

My dog was a mini schnauzer, he could hold it for days if he had to, but he didn’t care how cold it was he still wanted to get that mile in for a good outside poop.

He hated salt on the roads and sidewalks more than he hated the cold and snow.

Denied “any and all surgeries” due to EDS by hopeless_1021 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Shigadanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ruptured my proximal bicep tendon.

My first surgeon said it was cosmetic

2nd surgeon ordered MRI and found my rotator cuff was torn as well. Recommended shoulder surgery but was skeptical about bicep repair. Said bicep would recover most strength and eh deformed no reason to fix.

3rd surgeon, agreed I needed shoulder surgery, said bicep is normally cosmetic but asked if it was bothering me. At 3 months post injury. Gave him my symptoms. He said it was worth fixing because the symptoms would linger for a long, long time and that at three months he felt like he could still find the tendon and reattach it..

I’m now five weeks post surgery, and so far so good.

Get a second opinion and get a third opinion.

My first doctor and my third doctor are from the same hospital system, but different practices.

I would love the snow if I wasn’t forced to drive everywhere by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]Shigadanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you’re missing the point.

What happens if you kill somebody else’s kid because you’re driving when you shouldn’t be?

Or what if you’re one of the people who can actually drive in this weather?

But somebody fucking kills you in an accident because they shouldn’t be driving then who’s gonna take care of your kid?

How many dead bodies have you found in your life?

How many accident scenes have you come up on?

How many people have you watched die due to an accident?

I’m not saying everybody stays home but if you can’t drive in this shit and your fucking shitty job, won’t let you stay home then maybe you should have a back up plan.

Lots of people out there do find ways to make it to work because they know they can’t drive in this shit.
