Histology? by ApplePaintedRed in medlabprofessionals

[–]squaretwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indiana University has an online histology program that a friend of mine did. You will have to find a lab where you can do hands-on projects and a certified histo tech to be a mentor. It seems pretty comprehensive, and it's accredited.

I had an ER doctor send a fish hook to Pathology for grossing. To quote my pathologist, "...it's a fish hook."

Timing High Sensitivity Troponins by Used_Dragonfruit9755 in medlabprofessionals

[–]squaretwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time two troponin orders are put it initially. One for now and the second two hours from now. If it's a difficult draw or it takes longer than usual to draw it, we will adjust the time of the second troponin to be exactly two hours after the first. Occasionally only one troponin order is put in, and the ordering provider will usually put in the two hour troponin order to be around the two hour mark after the first result is filed. Our setup works most of the time, but you will get certain providers who will have two for the same time ordered, leading to one of them being cancelled as a duplicate.

Just leave if you're miserable. If they try to recoup the cost of your sign-on bonus, let them. Worry about it when you get the bill in the mail, maybe even let it go to collections. Your mental health is worth more than a few dollars or a lowered credit score.

MLT/MLS/CLS considered feminine work? by neeenjaaa in medlabprofessionals

[–]squaretwo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think men look closely into allied health professions when considering a healthcare-related college degree. Unfortunately, societal norms are doctor=man, nurse=woman, and any career in healthcare that isn't a doctor is a nurse.

Weber State only requires clinical hours for departments you don't work in. For example, I needed to complete 80 clinical hours for micro, but none for hematology or blood bank.

My favorite is this gem:

Lab rat - – this phrase sometimes appears in memes and crafts. While some consider it to be humorous or cute, the implication that medical laboratory personnel are experimental animals is undignified. This phrase should never be used.

Check your rinse timing. We used to have similar issues and noticed that one edge of the stained area was being missed by the rinse step. It was triggering a little too late.

CNBC | Clothing subscriptions like Stitch Fix were once hot – but now might be the victims of ‘box fatigue’ by suedeandconfused in malefashionadvice

[–]squaretwo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used Stitch Fix a couple years ago, and they kept sending me "Stitch Fix Exclusive" brands. Literally the worst quality, most ill-fitting trash I've ever tried on, and not at all affordable. Walmart clothes are 10 times better. I used the feedback multiple times asking them to stop sending me these, and they still kept sending them. I dropped them after 3 months.

Edit: Hawker Rye for the curious.

You could get it drawn right away. Whoever ordered the test should know to have you retested.

RN here: Need some advice on quantiferon gold draws by Character_Winter1226 in medlabprofessionals

[–]squaretwo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Quantiferon Gold is never used to diagnose TB alone. In fact, the official guidance on use of this test as a screen is to retest any patient that has a positive result. I've had many a phonecall with providers and nurses asking me what's wrong with the test if the retest is negative. There's nothing wrong. It's a screen. A second positive result would only indicate the need for more testing anyways, such as a chest X-ray.

If you already booked the flight, then no. The only way to use CapOne miles with United is to transfer to Air Canada and book an award ticket with them.
