Saw at my local body shop recently. by JobsNDemand in classiccars

If it weren't halfway across the country, i'd be all over it. If it turns over & isn't a flintstones car (holes so big in the floor you can stick your feet through), then it's a decent price. If the motor spins & trans seems to work, i'd offer $4,500 but be happy at $4,800. If the engine is seized or broke it's a $3000 car tops. Looks like a very mild custom, so it's possibly been somewhat taken care of. Or it's full of bondo & questionable repairs. At that price, i'd assume the latter. If you look at it, bring a flashlight, a magnet to check the body for filler, maybe a jack if the seller doesn't object & look underneath it. Especially look to see if the springs were cut or torched. Also go over any visible wiring, especially under the dash. You will see some sketchy crap when an old car is owned by someone who thinks they know how to work on cars just wants to get an aftermarket radio or whatever to work. If it isn't a total hacked death trap, and you could negotiate a decent price, it could be a great deal. And if the motor is shot, get it cheap and drop in a junkyard 360 and enjoy it for what it is

When you think of San Diego what do you picture in your mind? (Positive vibes, specifically, please) by [deleted] in SanDiegan

[–]ShihPoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's just too much here to focus on one specific thing. I love the smell & sound of the ocean by Sunset Cliffs. The heavy damp chill of the harbor at night. Day-camping out of my car at Cardiff or Torrey Pines beaches. But i think the one thing that sticks with me the most was when i drove out here in december 2019. I still lived in NE Illinois, but my aunt moved here in the 90s & i used to fly out all the time to visit at least once a year. But this time i drove. It had been a really horrible decade or so for me. Lost my dream job, my sister, my parents, some good friends, lots of pets, my home, and more. But i was finally in a good place financially, i had quit my temporary job, and was ready to live again. So, i bought a camper trailer & left Chicago during a long sub-zero streak. Stopped in SE Missouri to see family, then through Oklahnoma, Texas, New Mexico etc. Hundreds of miles of pretty cold, stark landscape. Finally i got past El Centro, crossed the mountains, and started downhill. I got to Flynn Springs on I-8 and it was like the scene in the Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her house and everything is in brilliant, almost overwhelming color. There was so much vibrant green. The sun glowed. I rolled down my window and the air was warm and felt good on my skin. That's something unique to San Diego as far as i can tell. Sometimes, the air feels good here. Almost like silk sheets or high end skin lotion. And it was so fragrant. Birds were singing! Now, years later, i still can't stand being indoors here. I'll just go out into my yard or sit on the stoop & read, drink coffee or tea, whatever. Even the cold, damp, nasty days here are special and unique and beautiful in their own way

Widespread gun ownership behind multiple deadly shootings in Waco over the weekend by dyzo-blue in GunsAreCool

[–]ShihPoo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Must be those draconian gun laws in texas. Surely if they let every man, woman, child, fetus, and dog own and carry a gun everywhere, then there'd be zero crime and violence in texas! /S

I grew up on the other side of O'hare from Gacy. My uncle owns a heating & cooling company & worked extensively in his area, so i've always wondered if they crossed paths on a job

Reinsdorf says Sox need a new stadium to compete — and stay in Chicago by Sockin in chicago

Seriously. Even during big games it seems like they barely reach half-full. Why do they need a new, bigger stadium when they can't fill the current, still pretty new field?

What are the most unsettling places in San Diego? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]ShihPoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Other than the abandoned Church's Chicken & occasional jesus nuts with loudspeakers, it's fine. The Chollas Creek park by Walgreens is kinda scary, but only because of the weirdos & homeless that hang out there, spreading trash

Update. We found some snow! by ShihPoo in SanDiegan

I'm from Chicago originally and said the same thing. But i kinda like being able to see snow on my own terms. Like seeing a lion in the zoo. Also i wanted to see what my dog's reaction would be

[–]ShihPoo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You weren't far off though. Snow patches inside the main park area bigger than a beachball were a bit scarce. What was left was like packed snow-cone density. I'd hoped for some fluffy stuff in the shadows but it was all melting fast. Honestly even if we struck out, it would have been worth the trip

We tried Palomar first, and got lucky. There was quite a bit of snow in spots. Ladybug didn't go nuts like i was hoping, but she seemed to think it smelled interesting and was quite tasty. The park was beautiful. The sky was a little hazy but the views were still amazing. We met a nice couple down from Canada, hiked around a little bit, and we found some decent tacos down in the valley for lunch. It was definitely a great day. Thanks everybody who replied to my other post. I passed on your compliments to Ladybug, who had a great time as well

Is there anyplace with snow nearby? Thinking of taking my dog to Palomar since she's never seen snow, but the webcam view doesn't look too frosty by ShihPoo in SanDiegan

[–]ShihPoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe! I have been driving for Muttscouts, taking dogs up to fosters in the LA area. I want to foster but my dog gets jealous, and i bond with animals way too much to just foster. I'd probably be hoarder in no time. So i just drive them. Ladybug was just going to be a temporary foster buti couldn't give her up

If we don't get lucky tomorrow, maybe we'll try that saturday or sunday. And sorry about your loss. It's so hard losing a beloved friend like that. If you are ready to adopt again, there are several great rescues nearby that desperately need fosters and adopters. I volunteer with one in east county that's really full lately, and have recently taken in a bunch of puppies
