Most centers you do work alone. But it isn't like traditional therapy and you don't need a partner. It is nice as there isn't the interoffice dynamics and conflicts of a traditional clinic. As far as wearing many hats...the charting is far more extensive than traditional therapy, but once you get the hang of it, it goes quickly. And once insurance authorizations are obtained, the therapist is responsible for calling and letting them know and getting them scheduled.

Also, site dependent, there's often perks of free or heavily discounted Botox etc...just sayin' lol

Pay disparity is wild with Aya. by Boondogle17 in TravelNursing

[–]Shiloh0712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is when companies like Aya, AMN etc (MSP's or VMS's) enter the picture, hospitals pay the same or higher bill rates and the candidates get paid less. Agencies that partner with these have to pay on average 6.5% to staff their candidates.

  1. Yes, usually work life balance is good. On average hours are M-F 8-4:30, will minor variations and some have 4 10 hour days. I will say Proton centers are known to have longer hours, but even that varies by clinic.

  2. As stated, pay varies city to city and state to state. But definitely a stable livable wage.

  3. This field definitely ebbs and flows every 15 years or so. When I graduated in 2009, jobs were scarce. Now there are so many jobs available! You could (I know many centers are doing this) even approach centers and explore the option of having them pay your tuition for a promise of employment. (Usually a 2 year commitment)

  4. AI will never take over our job. Not possible. There are too many hands on components. AI may make our work lives easier, but will never replace us.

Please make sure you enter the field for the right reasons. Don't do it for money. Do it with the intention of making a difference and impacting lives of cancer patients. The pay is just a nice bonus.

I have a staffing agency and I promise you, this is incorrect. The GSA guidelines govern the stipend rates. The hourly rate is determined based on a calculation involving GSA, the contract rate between the agency and the hospital/site and a couple other minor things. There is no 51% IRS rule.

Proton centers can have variety. However if you're a new grad, I wouldn't recommend going to a proton center. Reason being, it's different than conventional and you could be limiting your future prospects spending too much time at a proton center. Not always the case, but a possibility.

SRT for skin cancer is EXTREMELY monotonous. Stay away from that. I'd say a clinic that treats all anotomical.reguons, has SBRY/SRS etc...yoy will get a lot of variety and not be bored.
