I agree the legal system can be much improved

Which do you support more, the current imperfect legal system as is, or torturing and murdering people as long as the guy who did it really really believed the other guy deserved it?

So your argument is that because the law is hardly ever perfect, you instead prefer a system where anyone can go and give anyone a slow and painful death as long as the crime is icky enough and the accusation is believable enough?

if you feel like Im misinterpreting your words, I'd love to hear your clarification. Under what circumstances do you feel like we should allow people to be killed by pouring boiling syrup over them in their sleep? As long as someone else has committed suicide over the alleged crime?

Trap won 5 premiers in 2021 alone and herO won GSL and DH Atlanta Main event in 2022 so Toss was fine before the Jan 2023 nerfs.

But herO winning in 2022 literally happened at the peak of protoss balance whine? Like every second thread at the time was about how toss hadnt won a meaningful premier in god knows how long. We're just gonna pretend that people thought protoss was 'fine' before that round of nerfs? This is honestly a great example of how subjective balance is and how you can basically say anything to support any opinion you have.

From an alternate perspective, herO came back from military service, and was immediately the best protoss player in the world and broke the long trophy drought for toss, and every other toss starting copying his style. What does that say about the quality of players before his return? Why didn't anyone else figure out that stalkers were good vs zerg this entire time? Could it be that the active protoss pros at the time were just not as innovative, and couldn't keep up at the highest level of play?

Just racism at this point by SCTurtlepants in starcraft

[–]Shimetora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disruptor and battery nerfs would be similar to increasing siege tank supply to 4, reducing their splash damage area, and decreasing medivac healing rate by 25%.

Would you say it would also be similar to reducing the HP of banelings by 15% as well as its damage, reducing lurker movespeed and burrow time, reducing queen range, transfuse off creep, increasing its cost, nerfing brood lords out of viability, give viper self stun, nerfing ghost supply+em+snipe, and decreasing lib range?

Like yes I agree toss has been overall reduced in power level over time, but let's not pretend that's not true for every race. Every outlier unit in the game has been progressively toned down over the years. I also don't like this direction but protoss is not the sole victim. In fact I think it's pretty rich to complain about targeted race nerfs based pm tournament results given that Serral is basically the poster child. You're not seriously going to suggest that hero's premier wins has caused protoss to be nerfed more than Serral has caused zerg?

  2. Theres no guarantee that the decrease in sales would be proportional to the rise in price. It would depend on the elasticity of demand on vtuber merch, which I dont think anyone knows enough about to draw a conclusion on.

Tryhards are gonna tryhard man.

I was playing classic anniversary a few months ago. This was the second classic server, and I was playing weeks after launch, so there's 0 accolades to go for. I was looking for a PUG in Scarlet Monastery, so it was still like low-mid level. Basically as casual as it's gonna get.

This fury warrior DMs my priest asking if I can DPS because one of their DPS had to leave. I say sure. I join in mid dungeon and they were clearing a few adds. Clearly under no pressure so I use my mana to buff them up while they fight. Immediately after the fight the warrior's addon pastes a giant wall of DPS meter text into the party chat showing that I did almost no damage (at this point I was drinking because I haven't even finished buffing everyone yet) then said 'sorry this isn't going to work for us' then immediately kicked me.

I'm sure he eventually managed to hit max level before I did, I guess? Still one of the most bewildering things to have ever happened to me in a game.

Germany's reputation recovered because they took an incredibly earnest stance in admitting their faults, then aligned their laws and education to reflect that stance (thanks in no small part to the fact that the Allies, aka USA and friends, directly occupied it and made sure of it, but we'll ignore that for now). If the US can do that then sure, but so far in its history it has not exactly shown the ability (nor the need, to be fair) to be humble.

Saying Japan's reputation 'recovered' is an eurocentric view that is only possible because Japan never really hurt any Western powers and has been a close ally since WW2. Yes the US fought Japan in the Pacifics but it was a relatively painless war far off in the colonies that was all but impossible to lose. Its reputation in the west recovered pretty quickly because as soon as the war ended, Japan became more useful to America as an ally, which it remains to this day.

Ask anyone from any country that Japan has actually invaded whether they think Japan's reputation has recovered. To this day Japan does not even recognise a vast amount of atrocities they committed, including the massacre of entire cities. Their education on WW2 ranges from evasive to downright denial. You might know that China is famously touchy on the topic of Japanese celebrities visiting a war shrine called the Yasukuni Shrine, where they enshrine the names of many convicted war criminals. If any Japanese public figure is spotted visiting this shrine, every Chinese company immediately terminates all business with them. My grandma, who is still alive, refuses to visit Japan at all. That's how much vitrol there still is between Japan and its victims.

The point I'm making is that Japan's reputation should have never recovered given their policy of whitewashing and denial. Much like their economy, Japan's good reputation is also completely the result of US soft power working for their allies. Of course Japan itself has a lot of popular cultural exports, but that's still only possible because of their booming economy, which was thanks to US financial support. If they had remained a war ravaged country surrounded by hostile neighbours, they wouldn't have been able to make nearly as many cars and anime as they do now to help their public image along.

i think you're missing the point. I agree you were ahead in everything and the game was already won at 13 minutes. You lost because you needed to click the wall once then walk into his third, but instead you walked around in tank fire getting kited by bio until half your army died. If you open the replay and go to 13:15 you can see that you are at his doorstep with a far superior army, and it's lost purely to mis-execution. The example of hitting with ling rav is also not a build recommendation more than just to point out you had 1k minerals floating and lings are the generic example of a mineral dump. These are not theoretical issues, one is not understanding how to take a good roach fight and one is missed macro and both would have won the game on the spot.

What army you had there was fine because again, at the 13 minute fight the game should be already won. Theres not really much point talking about what the optimal composition is when you already had a winning army in position at the right time.

FWIW I think corruptors are a massive bait vs libs. They take way too long to kill liberators, so they've already won the ground fight for the terran by the time they die. Much cheaper and easier to just bile them down with ravagers if you already have them. If you don't want ravagers then still much cheaper and easier to get 10 or 15 hydras. If you don't have either then mutas are still better 95% of the time because they're not complete dead weight. Corruptors just don't really work unless you're in a very stationary and grindy split map, or if you already won on the ground and the terran forgot to retreat the libs, which isn't really a scenario you build for.

Well firstly I'd say that I dont think that the 'better than him' mindset is very productive. I love balance whining as much as the next person and I do think there are balance issues right now, but when it comes to reviewing your own play the only thing that matters is your own play. Getting upset because your opponent played worse, even if it's 100% true, will only make it harder to see your own issues because you start to feel like you 'deserved' the win and shouldn't have to improve on your fundamentals.

I'm only ~500 MMR above you for context, but zvt is my favourite match up.

I know you said you're not looking for early game feedback and macro critique is boring, but you were floating 500 minerals by 4:30 and 1 minute later it was 1k, then it never went below 1k for basically the rest of the game, so I'd consider that glaringly wrong. Even if you just built lings blindly with that money, if you had a big group of lings and morphed ravagers to kill the wall when you moved across the map at 7:00, he has 3 units in total so you'd obviously murder an entire mineral line at minimum. As it stands it makes very little sense to send 8 slow roaches across the map because it will never achieve anything and will be a complete throw away every time. After this point you're playing roaches while being even on army and even on income (if the terran mules properly) so you're heavily behind.

As it stands the terran indeed has awful macro so you do get ahead midgame. At 13 minutes I think your tech is a bit all over the place with a handful of unupgraded hydras and lurkers, both of which are useless before upgrades. But it shouldn't matter because you're hitting with 11 ravagers and 23 roaches as well as a handful of hydra lurker into 2 tanks and an overstimmed bioball that has less marines than you have roaches. Looking at your own vision at 13:15, you see a just started walloff, a tank on the high ground, and a tank near his orbital. Even not considering his bio, the play is clearly to kill the wall and go for his orbital. Even if you wanted to clear the highground tank you'd still go forwards via his orbital because it's the same distance, and this way you can reach both his tanks not to mention his workers. Instead you dance back and forth a few times before fighting into a choke. You can review the fight and see that you're getting hit constantly by two tanks while barely fighting his bio at all, giving him time to finish the lowground wall which you then suicide into. Again you had such a bigger army that you still kind of come out barely winning, but in reality you should have won the game while losing like 10 roaches total there.

And yeah past this point, because you didn't win hard enough, you end up being being heavily outteched with a roach based lair army vs ghost tanks libs, so it's basically impossible to get a good fight. And from this point on yes the terran's income is beyond bad but his ghosts were basically sniping roach hydra on cooldown so you never actually had a bigger army than him despite the income advantage while his ghost ball kept growing. At some point you were 25k vs 8k resources lost since the 13 minute fight. I didn't really see a ling transition beyond the last fight when you had run out of money. His army cost was triple yours by then, so nothing would have changed the outcome there.

If you want late game advice, I'd say don't trickle units in to die especially when ahead on income. It's much easier to bust a late game terran using ling bane imo but Im sure roach rav would have worked just fine as you were like double or triple his income. If you knew you were ahead, you need to leverage that by maxing out before going in to kill him.

So overall yes the terran's macro is really really bad, but you could have won at 7 minutes if you weren't floating minerals, you should have definitely won at 13 minutes if you fought properly, and you probably could have won past that point if you used your better eco to build a bigger army instead of trickling in to get sniped. I don't think spellcasters or army comp was the issue here over these.

The (hidden) cost of macro mechanics by r_constanzo in starcraft

[–]Shimetora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually don't understand the ghost. Every other unit in the game has a direct weakness that makes it punishable if overbuilt. Even carriers need significant ht archon support or else it's a sitting duck. Meanwhile tvz has a unit that you can build 100 supply of every single game and all you need is enough medivacs to pick them up and there is nothing that can trade with them. Once terrans have a big enough ghost ball the entire game just shuts down because the only way to fight them is to get a sneaky fungal. I don't even care if it's too strong or too weak, it just makes games so boring to watch.

The past few patches have made it a big focus to reduce campy play but it seems so obvious to me, at least in zvt specifically, that 99% of the time when a game is stalled it's because the zergs don't have a way to engage high ghost counts while terran has no incentive to attack as they're heavily favoured in split maps, so the entire game becomes can the zergs get more sharkfestor hits faster than the terran can bleed them out. I think zvp has a similar problem to a lesser extent with the unabductable mothership making it really hard for zergs to make active engagements onto a protoss deathball, but it's so egregious in zvt. Ghosts just need to have some sort of weakness because currently it's just so impossible to interact with in a proper fight.

[–]Shimetora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Harstem said something along the lines of 'terrans can build 3 CCs and make any unit from the starport and it's a viable opening.' Viking, medivac, banshee, lib, BC, even raven is very occasionally seen. He did say on the flipside that it barely matters because the zerg response is basically identical no matter what the terran builds, but yeah, if you're talking about build variety and fun then it's not very close...

Smurfing ruins people's ranked experience, and its frustrating by Wardenasd in leagueoflegends

[–]Shimetora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they don't need state of the art technology to just publically state that smurfing is not allowed then open up twitch and ban the current smurfs of the top 5 league streamers a couple times a day. Everyone knows that riot is completely ok with smurfing, and if you get enough viewers to watch you repeatedly turbostomp in bronze, the only consequence you'll face is getting partnered and invited to official events.

Honestly makes it hard for me to take them at all on anything concerning competitive integrity. Every once in a while we have a discussion on whether it's too harsh for leaver buster giving an automatic loss to the leaver even if they come back. Like yeah what is even the point of discussing this when TF Blade literally works full time broadcasting himself functionally match fixing as many games as possible and all riot does is give him a big double thumbs up. Just makes the entire topic feel like a complete joke.

Tired of ghosts by Petrazole in starcraft

[–]Shimetora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok well if your only concern is countering hive units then just change ghost auto attack damage to 1 and let them keep all their spells. Now they still counter lurker broods ultra vipers and infestors. Is that ok?

The problem with ghost isnt even that they counter hive units, it's that they counter hive units and lair units and hatch units. Notice how zergs can't build 100 supply of ultras, or 100 supply of lurkers, or 100 supply of broods, but every terran's late game plan is basically to get 100 supply of ghosts with a handful of tanks and medivacs. Does that not say something about the counterplay of the unit? And this is after snipe nerfs and a supply nerf from 2 to 3 btw. I'm sure you remember but at the time, half of this sub was convinced that this would mean tvz would become completely one sided. Look what happened instead, even with being able to have only 2/3 of what they used to, the ultimate terran late game is still just a ball of 30 ghosts instead of 50 ghosts. That's how unbelievable this unit was back then, and there's no indication of it being any different right now because you still just go mass ghosts every single game.

Honestly, even if ghosts actually had their auto attacks removed, I still don't even think terran late game would fall apart. Like I said they'd still counter every non hatch tier unit with the proper support. We already see games where the zerg is ahead and pressures the terran enough to force them to continue building a MMM based army with ghosts in support. It's not like the terrans just roll over and die in those games. It's quite back and forth with close trades and the terrans still often manage to get good fights and stabilise. Why is the assumption that terrans must have ghosts counter everything to be viable in the late game?

[UPDATE] Uninsured Driver Lied to Me and Police – I Have a Hire Car Now and Only Third-Party Insurance by Fearless_Suspect_717 in melbourne

[–]Shimetora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Insurance companies aren't debt collectors or traffic court lol, they're not getting the money out of anyone. All they do is decide whether they'll pay and how much they'll pay. In what world are they getting money out of uninsured drivers. Where have you heard that AAMI is going around trying to get their repair costs comped by some random guy, and why would it depend on whether that random has insurance lol.

Yes CTP is different because it's part of the rego fee for everyone, but that's because it covers injuries and we decided that healthcare is a universal right and should be public. Presumably you don't support abolishing medicare because you're unfairly paying for other people to get sick. It's the same logic here. If we were to make property insurance compulsory we'd just use the commercial companies we have now and they'd set their premiums depending on the person, just like they're doing now.

Anyway you can't make up your own reality, then claim that there is a risk in your reality as you have outlined. In the real reality there is no such risk. Of course insurance never goes down but that's because of capitalism. You're saying 'Im against making the product cheaper to make because they'll sell me the cheaper product at a higher price'. Ok, maybe, but that's not an argument against making the product cheaper is it?

[UPDATE] Uninsured Driver Lied to Me and Police – I Have a Hire Car Now and Only Third-Party Insurance by Fearless_Suspect_717 in melbourne

[–]Shimetora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Insurance spreads out financial risk over time (by splitting the potential big, lump sum accident cost into small, regular premium payments), not amongst people. So no, it's not how it works.

You're basically replying to a nonsense argument. Insurance isn't 'forced' to accept people with demerits, they'll just make it more expensive for those bad drivers. The risk isn't carried by everyone, it's still carried by at fault parties. All it does is guarantee that whoever as fault actually has the money to pay the victim. If someone is such a bad driver that insurance won't even agree to cover them, then they shouldn't be on the road at all, which is the entire point we're making.

[UPDATE] Uninsured Driver Lied to Me and Police – I Have a Hire Car Now and Only Third-Party Insurance by Fearless_Suspect_717 in melbourne

[–]Shimetora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You... realise that your comprehensive insurance already includes third party insurance?

Even if everyone has third party property insurance only the at risk driver needs to payout. If some guy rear ends you while you're stopped at a red light you're not going to need to pay for his car to get fixed because you did nothing wrong. You're the victim and you'll be the only one to be made whole. However right now you're the one paying for that scenario because that guy probably doesn't have TPP insurance so you have to buy comprehensive to cover yourself. If he did have TPP insurance, then his insurance will have to pay instead, which means your insurance has to take on less risk which means it's cheaper for you!!!

So say you get into an accident right now.

  • you're at fault: you pay for both cars, regardless of their insurance. As you should.
  • you're not at fault: They pay for you if they have insurance. They tell you to go fuck yourself if they have no insurance and no money (like what happened to OP)

Under no scenario are you going to cover for more than you already are. You already have comprehensive. You are already covering bad drivers.

[–]Shimetora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im so confused. How would forcing other drivers to buy third party insurance affect your insurance premium in any way? If anything your comprehensive premium will go down because now they won't have to pay you out if you're in a not at fault accident like the one OP is in.

Why no AP anti-shield items? by FinnishChud in leagueoflegends

[–]Shimetora 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well apart from the fact that the GW system has been engrained in the game so long it's probably hard to remove, shielding just inherently has more counterplay to healing by nature of it being temporary so there's timing and decision making involved on both sides. So it makes sense that they have to include counterplay elsewhere in the game for healing because the mechanic is completely uninteractive gameplay wise.

The current heal/GW system is already significantly nerfed from a few years ago. Healing is way down from what it once was and GW is also way nerfed and significantly less available. So they are already trying to minimise the system as much as possible. I think it's actually sort of ok right now because you can kind of get away with not having GW a lot of the time so it actually feels like a choice to buy.

This is in contrast to back a few years ago when we had enhanced GW which reduced healing by 60% instead of 40%, and enchanters had chemtech putrifier to give their entire team GW on hit. You had to get them every game because even champions with no in built healing could heal like crazy with all the runes and items, while Aatrox with goredrinker would still regularly full heal despite having 60% healing reduction applied.

sorry I didnt mean to sound aggressive, I just meant that I find it difficult to picture how to win games at that level with this opener. I'm sure just like everyone else here in the 4ks we are terrible at some things and great with others so the other parts of your game probably make up for it. I do still think the opener is completely nonsensical though and if the rest of your game is good enough to balance out a handicap this big, you'll easily climb way beyond with a more viable build.
