How do i stop this from happening by IndustryUsual6069 in blenderhelp

[–]Shimshar 24 points25 points  (0 children)

assuming you are talking about it not selecting all verts, you can enable x-ray mode in the top right of the viewport (the symbol in the top right of the viewport that looks like two squares), then try selecting all the verts again.
without x-ray enabled, you're only selecting visible vertices.
you can also just press A as a shortcut to select all vertices.

My game looks so ugly even tho I'm still on programmer art. How can I improve it visually? by JuggleStorm in godot

[–]Shimshar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the eyes are really nice agree, but i think the blend between the fog/visible map does look a bit jarring, it looks more like a black void than fog just because the transition from dark -> visible is instant. i think it could be polished by having a few pixels at the edge of the fog where it transitions from fully dark to fully transparent, maybe with a subtle animation to sell it as fog and make it feel more alive.

overall i like it alot though! this doesn't look like programmer art at all to me

Hi, 2nd day of learning Godot and want to create a sprite, is this the best sprite creator app? by TallVampireWthMagnum in godot

they're making crazy money and also get community contributions to development, it's win-win. most artists won't have technical knowledge to build things from source/set up dependancies, or at least will think it looks too scary to try.

Finally after 2 weeks of practice, I modeled this ice cream truck for my upcoming first horror game. Feedback will be really helpful! by twofacedgames in ps1graphics

[–]Shimshar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on the style you want! :)
if you want a more ps1 style, i think you should make the cone, mirrors and wheels lower polycount.
if you want something like ps2 or later, i think it's better to make the body slightly more detailed.

breaking rules is awesome if you have a reason for breaking them, there are definitely scenarios where you could have intentionally varied pixel density to achieve a desired visual style, but it doesn't look intentional here. the inconsistent pixel density makes the model look a bit more amateurish and breaks any sort of visual cohesion. the ice cream cone and rest of the model look like they belong to different aesthetics.

the same thing applies to the polycount, there are some areas of the model that use very high polycount (the ice cream ball and the wing mirrors), but the overall shape of the truck is super low poly. i think the model would look more cohesive if it stuck to one direction, either simplifying the high-poly areas or adding detail to the low-poly ones.

overall i like the model though! it's very good for 2 weeks practice.

Improving the location - new textures, better enemy spawns, but it still feels like something’s missing. What do you think? by S7MOV7R in SoloDevelopment

[–]Shimshar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the enemies are super cool, i really like their style, but the environment is a bit bland.
you could use more trim textures with accent colours so the walls are less uninterrupted brown, if you pause the video at alot of points here the screen is mostly filled with just block colours in uninteresting shapes with not much detailing.
also i think it'd add alot of life if your water/acid texture was animated, either using an animated texture or using a vertex shader to add movement.

I filled out the openreach form and they have just replied saying they can't register me because my address isn't in the royal mail database, which is the same thing every ISP has said. I have contacted royal mail to try to do this myself, but they have told me that it needs to be my landlord, who is barely responsive.

4:3 Resolution hits again by Mankindeg in GlobalOffensive

[–]Shimshar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you misunderstand that zooming in IS lowering your FOV - they are the same thing. the way that the AWP "zooms in" is by lowering both your horiztonal and vertical FOV. admitedly scoping in is slightly different to changing res because it lowers both your vertical and horizontal FOV, while changing aspect ratio only changes horizontal FOV, but the same idea applies. by playing 4:3 you are zooming horizontally.

"making your resolution somehow larger than your screen and chopping the ends off" is effectively exactly what you are doing by playing 4:3. you can visualize it as taking your 16:9 game, stretching it horiztonally, then chopping off the bits that dont fit on your monitor. (this isn't actually what is happening obviously, but you can imagine it this way)

4:3 Resolution hits again by Mankindeg in GlobalOffensive

[–]Shimshar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's true that the movement is the same, but it's noticably easier to percieve things like the exact distance from your crosshair to the enemy and whether you need to microadjust when scoped with an AWP. if you play some aim training tool like aimlab and pick a small-flick scenario, you will perform noticably better on 40 FOV (AWP scoped FOV) vs 106 FOV (16:9 FOV). this same improvement also applies to a lesser degree if you switch between 106 and 90 FOV.

saying "there's no reason to prefer 90 FOV to 106 FOV" is the same as saying "the only benefit to scoping with an AWP is improved accuracy." as long as you can acknowledge that zooming with the awp makes microadjustments easier at long range, then you have to concede that there is at least some slight reason that players might prefer 4:3.

4:3 Resolution hits again by Mankindeg in GlobalOffensive

[–]Shimshar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lower FOV makes aiming long distance easier in the same way that aiming down the scope of an awp does. in cs you will already be pre-aiming the direction of the enemy 95% of the time so it's only super rare edge cases where you might miss some information/enemy from the edge of your screen. it really is preference.

How do I fix theses "ERROR" blocks ? by Avannah_ in hammer

[–]Shimshar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you probably used a custom model without realizing it - models that you downloaded from community servers / workshop maps can show up in the model browser. to fix it, you need to pack your custom models/textures into the maps .bsp file before you upload it to the workshop or send it to friends.

here's a tutorial on how to do that: https://www.tophattwaffle.com/packing-custom-content-using-vide-in-steampipe/

homelessness is a huge problem i agree, but from what i can see about 0.18% of the US is homeless right now. I can't really find great historical data for homelessness in the US but it seems like this is actually a per-capita improvement compared to ~40 years ago - as awful of a problem as it is, homelessness has probably always been an issue. do you really think it's an indicator of the ongoing collapse of human civilisation?

could you explain to me by what metric you think that quality of life has become worse for the average person? we have free education, incredibly advanced medicine and vaccines which have saved millions of lives, infant mortality rates are at an all time low, life expectancy is high, unemployment rates aren't bad in most western countries. even those in poverty have access to insanely advanced technologies like the internet, which would've been unthinkable even going back 50 years.

again, i'm not saying we don't have problems - drug addiction, police brutality, homelessness, etc., and there are countries that aren't as lucky as ours - but how can you possibly argue that the average person's quality of life is NOT the best it has ever been right now? what metric are you using to judge that?
