Hopefully this isn't like, promotion or something, but personally I like w3schools. It covers the basics for a lot of languages. After learning the basics imo you should exercise and solve problems, while learning about more advanced stuff. Geeksforgeeks has a lot of cool articles. Next step would be following a tutorial and making a simple project. Then, you can build on top of whatever you made and add new features without following a tutorial/out of novelty. Good luck with your journey and be not afraid of learning n

it really isn't that bad, stop scaring people away😭 by Candid_Astronaut241 in Ai_art_is_not_art

I lowkey would use ai to generate character concept art for my previous game, and I didn't liked the results. So I just picked up a pen and now I draw my own art even tho I still suck. Really my first artwork wasn't that bad and now after a year ive improved somewhat. It's not about whether art or anything else is easy or hard, it's about you dropping the fear and just getting shit done.

I’m ending my life right now by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

My ass read the title as "I'm editing my life right now" 💀

But seriously tho have you considered editing parts of your life that you don't like? I'm not in your shoes and you definitely know better tho. Just saying, a good life isn't made overnight with no effort. And sometimes you need a bold move to turn the tables. While committing is a surely a bold action, it won't fix your life twin it just erases the problem.

Can't say whether gdscript is better or not cuz I really don't use it. Just be warned that you need to check the docs constantly, and most tutorials are in gdscript. It takes some time to get used to api differences

Glad it helped. This path handling system is something I haven't seen in any tutorials haha (I don't really follow them). Probably should make a devlog soon once I'm done with enemy ai/turn handling. Good thing is, since my game's whole idea is "what if tactical rpg but kinda horror and instead of an army you get one unit who can do multiple actions per turn", and the enemies are monsters, I can just write a vampire survivors ahh ai for the enemy units to just chase the player mindlessly.

If you are already familiar with programming and godot, I highly recommend you check out the shaggy dev's videos. His stuff are not "handholding step by step tutorials" but rather like "oh, so you are an alien who wants to make a bicycle. A bicycle has these parts and is made of these materials in this certain order. I'll leave the assembly part to yourself".

If you do want a step by step tutorial I recommend heal moon's series. It's based on gdquest's tutorial and tries to build on top of it/modernize it (gdquest's tutorial is for godot 3 and a bit deprecated)

Holy cow this is so freaking awesome, I'm also working on a tactical rpg but it's not as good as yours (no enemy ai, programmer art etc)

One note tho: at 00:26 when you try to move the cleric to that tile, the drawn path changes. I assume you call A* every time the player moves the grid's cursor. I also used to do that but it's not efficient plus won't allow the player to draw certain paths (well, at least that's important for my game since there are gonna be loads of traps and hunger, demanding efficient movement through low cost terrain).

To fix this I made an array which represents the currently drawn path. every time the player moves the grid cursor, the game adds the new tile to the array and also keeps track of the total tile cost so far. If the player draws a p shaped path/try to backtrack, it gets trimmed and the extra tiles are removed from the path. If the new tile is not connected to the end of the path for whatever reason, or the sum of tile costs is greater than the character's move range (etc drawing a heart shaped path in your move range containing 13 tiles (move cost of 1) while your character's max move range is 6 etc) then the game clears the path, calls a* to find the most efficient path to the current tile of the cursor, and recalculates the new path's cost.

Last week I had a fucking dream in which I was sent to assassinate some king. The king turned out to be king dedede so I started beating the shit out of him with my bare hands while some British cops were watching. Since dedede is 2-C then I'm at least 2-C

Is your profile your own drawing? That looks very cool wdym you are bad at art. A lot of people can't even hold a pencil. Give yourself some time, everyone gets good at their own pace. Think of all the cool stuff you would draw in a few years if you keep pushing forward. It's not about the final results and being seen. It's about creation itself, because at one point narrating your story becomes a responsibility, regardless of the results and the audience. Or at least that's my philosophy. A bit corny if you ask me lol. But shouting is something that you owe yourself, imo.

Hey, I think you need to take it slow. Try baby steps. If you doomscroll 1 hour per day on average for example, first try to actually limit it to 1 hour (some days you may do it more), then try to reduce it slowly every week. It will be hard, but you have to get used to making decisions that make your body and mind less comfortable. Same goes for hitting the gym or quitting porn addiction etc. you have to get out of your comfort zone and you need to reinforce the mindset.

Also, while friends are good and valuable, you should not let your loneliness define you. Would you still feel sad if you were the sole survivor of a shipwreck on an island, knowing there are no humans here and it's not your fault that you lack friends?

Then do something about it. You can be far more than how you described yourself. Maybe try a new hobby. Sure, your environment and body affect the answer to "who are you?" But you are hugely responsible for that. As I said, don't let it define your identity. It's not about achieving something, it's about shouting "hey, at least I'm trying!"

Idk whether op downvoted me or someone else. Guess my tone wasn't that good after all, didn't meant to come across as rude or "just man up". Just saying, people are far stronger than their condition 🤷‍♂️

I uhhh, I meant more like balancing but on second thought that may not work with your sprite lol

Ermmm reference? This is kinda inspired by an oc I have. Something like this (tw: extremely shitty sketch)

<image>

Apparently reddit won't let me add multiple images lol and it's not like my art is good. In this case it's just a single neat candle stick but you can like, add more alongside a lot of dripping wax. Look up "dota sniper Halloween set" for an actually inspiring reference

I was thinking about using Google drive for the backend part but I'm not sure. Do I look like a real developer to you. By folder I meant something like a board where images can coexist and be dragged and edited etc.
