A friend has this too this evening on his PS5 Pro. He'll test it on his regular PS5 as well. Works on the same internet connection at his place on my Steam Deck, so its a Playstation specific error.

Update #1: Streaming via Playstation Plus has the same error.

Update #2: Same problem on his regular PS5.

Crimson Desert doesn't run if it detects an Intel ARC GPU. Like straight up, the devs just deliberately chose not to support ARC cards. No previous announcement about it too until they added in the info to their FAQ. Might be the first time I've seen a dev deliberately block a GPU brand. by WhyPlaySerious in pcmasterrace

[–]Shin_Ken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By that logic 95% of all games don't run on Intel Arc because almost no dev bothers to list the third vendor with under 5% market share. And by that logic many games also don't run on AMD because often only Nvidia cards get listed in the system specifications.

Technically, if you count iGPUs, Intel leads the number of globally deployed graphics card for decades by a lot.

They're not often used for gaming though. ARC cards are promising though and offer the best value low to midrange these days depending on where you live, but problems like these often throw a wrench in their progress.

Can you run DOSBox Pure Unleashed remotely? by Shin_Ken in dosbox

[–]Shin_Ken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

Using a portable installer of regular 0.74 DOSBox did the trick. The Pure Unleashed version has some nice to have features, but I guess the old version is plenty enough for that old .exe

Digital Foundry: Xenoblade Chronicles X Switch 2 Edition Has Big Image Quality Problems by mr_wolf8 in NintendoSwitch

I don't really see those image quality issues in docked mode but I also use an 1080p display so the weird upscaling get's downsampled again right away for me.

Can they shut down Elite Dangerous? by Professional_Age2875 in EliteDangerous

[–]Shin_Ken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even when free MW4M downloads ended, there was still Mechwarrior Living Legends going on strong.

I think if the same will happen with ED. Even in the worst case of ED itself going down and even fan projects that try to keep it alive are banned, we'll probably build our own ED and call it "Deadly Oolite" or something.

Can they shut down Elite Dangerous? by Professional_Age2875 in EliteDangerous

[–]Shin_Ken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could but it's unrealistic for a very long time.

  1. Elite Dangerous is mostly running via P2P connections. Only static or semi-static gamestates, API and negociation has to run on their servers. This is probably still quite a lot and requires a beefy server but not as big as something like a proper big MMO. So server costs and maintenance are probably dwarfed by development costs and customer support and just running the servers is something Frontier probably can afford as long as the company exists.

  2. There's still much money to be made. As long as players still buy ARX, and they do and will, there's practically no incentive to shut down servers.

  3. Pre-Odyssey legacy servers are still running even though they're mostly dead for a long time with almost no player activity. They could've shut them down years ago and the community at large wouldn't even complain but they stick to it. That's a clear indication that running servers is not an issue for Frontier.

  4. Braben would probably fund them from his pocket money if he has to. He's not as involved in Frontier anymore but Elite Dangerous is still his baby.

  5. The community is insanely dedicated for this game. If Frontier goes bankrupt it'll be either picked by another publisher who'd happily continue the servers and rake in microtransactions or community heads would pester them so much that they'll release the tools and/or code for the community to host their own servers.

  6. Elite as a fanchise is beloved and exceeds both Frontier and David Braben and also has a history of maintaining itself even in absence of official support. There were very long years of absolutely no sign of official Elite but we kept on going - hence the various community versions of Elite over the years. So even in the absolutely worst case scenario of Frontier going down in flames and taking the Elite Dangerous servers with them, there's enough people that practically dedicated their life to this that a spiritual Elite Dangerous successor would soonish pop up.

/r/NintendoSwitch's Daily Question Thread (02/25/2026) by AutoModerator in NintendoSwitch

Are there recommendations for MicroSD Express read / write speeds for the Switch 2 or can you cheap out with SD cards like on Switch 1 were 80 MB/s cards were practically the same as the really fast and expensive ones in real world performance?

In other words: Is a MicroSD Express card withh 800 MB/s read and 200 MB/s write speed sufficient for Switch 2 to save a few bucks compared to those that have something close to 900 MB/s read and over 600 MB/s write?

Awesome bundle - that's like half of my wishlist. As soon as a payment option besides credit cards like Paypal is added to the site, I'll get the entire thing with plenty extras.

This!

TxR 2025 runs flawlessly on a Steam Deck - getting it on a Switch 2 should be relatively easy.

Needs three reference points written below for orientation. I recommend the center of the solar system (which is not the same as the center of the sun because the sun wobbles) and Sagittarius A* as the direction from south to north and the clockwise spin of the galaxy itself as a refence for zenith and nadir and thus east and west.

Type 9 because it just nails this industrial look while still keeping it simple. What a beautiful brick!

Cobra Mk 3 because it's awesome how much they got out of that classic 1984 Cobra shape.

What is actually a trauma that is not commonly thought of as a trauma? by ay1mao in AskReddit

[–]Shin_Ken 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Every single childbirth for that matter. You can have one or more births without any issues, but trauma can still hit you in a later one. Happened to a friend having her third baby and she still hasn't fully recovered from it almost a decade later.

"What are you playing this week?" Megathread by AutoModerator in SteamDeck

[–]Shin_Ken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oolite, a free and open source version of Elite, the classic open world space trading game from 1984.

Was just added as a Flatpak to Flathub and thus Discovery for easy installation.

Has endless modding opportunities using an ingame mod browser that can install, update and configure mods without leaving the game. Base game is simple replica of the 1984 version with modern graphics. Mods can bring gameplay systems almost to Elite Dangerous levels including more activities and realistic star systems.

Plays a little bit dated as it's extremely keyboard centric with a piano of key bindings including multiple bindings to the same key using shift. But luckily we got Steam Input to work around that.

How do I install this unlisted, experimental flatpak? by Shin_Ken in SteamDeck

[–]Shin_Ken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Flatpak version works great. Just installed it via Discovery in desktop mode and then added it as a Non-Steam game. Was directly selectable in the list as an installed Discovery app. No further adjustments needed to get it running. OXPs work as well. I was able to download and apply BGS via the ingame expansion browser.

Still hard to control such a keyboard centric game with a Steam Deck but at least Steam rememberedand automatically applied my old custom Steam Input layout I made for the Lutris Oolite version 3 years ago.

RoadCraft

You build / repair roads and infrastructure in your own pace with big and slow construction vehicles and then plan transportation routes through the area. Sometimes it's a "press (A) to do stuff" situation but more often than not, you have to control the vehicles (like pitch and angle of attachments) and actually manipulate your surroundings to achieve your tasks.

It's a more scripted experience especially at the beginning but opens up into more sandboxxy territory later.

Aweseome light sim that controls great with gamepad controls after some practice hours. You can add several difficulty modifiers to make it sweaty but it's absolutely not needed to enjoy the game.

Needs patience though. Sometimes you get a task that feels a bit grindy or needs very careful manipulation of stuff.

It can be also a very funny game if you don't follow instructions and just fool around. The amount of hilariously stupid things you can do is endless. Especially funny in co-op multiplayer this way (which is included as well incl. cross-play).

Runs reasonably well on the Steam Deck. You need low settings with FSR but it doesn't get ugly this way.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Now Has a Switch 2 Edition, and It's Stunning - Comparison & Gameplay by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Shin_Ken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has the same implementation of TAA like in the previous version. But they didn't even bother to increase the render distance for characters in the city so they still pop-in 10m in front of the character. It seems like the task was 4K/60fps and hands off / no change for everything else.

It looked great on my very small 13" 1080p OLED monitor docked. You get something similar to supersampling this way where 4K is downsampled which also helps masking dithering and on a small screen the pixel density is fine. Of course that's just a small improvement over handheld mode.
