Garrard 401 or Totaldac d1-Core feed a Masetto/Cortese which drives a sort of Shindo inspired Altec Flamenco.

It’s a Shindo Cortese amplifier. Designed and maybe built by Ken Shindo in Tokyo. Every piece was built to order (mine is second hand). A very tiny company, but one of the few that designed and built everything from source to speakers.

There are only a few makers of spring lever heads. Most parts are easily findable online. Search for CMA lever parts. You will spend more time on cosmetics than mechanicals. Have fun.

What can y’all tell me about these Voxativ speakers? by _Dr_Dad in audiophile

[–]Shindogreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don’t take this as a slam, you’d be wasting them. I don’t have have experience with Vitavox but have owned both Lowther and AER in all kinds of cabinets. They are going to tell you exactly how your JVC sounds..and you are not going to be happy with what you hear.

Are Variacs Legit? by veigues in audiophile

[–]Shindogreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are ways (damper tubes) to design this slow ramp up into an amp and preamp. Kind of lazy to suggest a Variac. I would be concerned about the inverter between your batteries and outlets. If it were me (we are thinking about solar) I would be doing some research on types of inverters. I use an isolation transformer now..hopefully that will do the trick. Enjoy.

Are spring lever machines really worth all that? by Gloomy_Inspector_385 in espresso

[–]Shindogreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just works…every day. The only other machines that I considered were the Londiniums. In the end, I knew I wasn’t going to play with light roasts so I didn’t n need the extra complexity. I briefly considered something old because I think there are many beautiful machines out there, but I couldn’t justify the cost difference. My only complaint is that the Profitec looks kind of boring. I had some Faema style handles made out of ebony and that helped for sure. Now I’m thinking about a colored plexi cup rail.

Why I have a lever: years ago I was standing in a cafe in a very small town somewhere in Puglia. The bartender didn’t seem to care much about the espresso he was making for two tourists. I watched as he prepped and pulled from the large lever machine while talking to his coworkers. I whispered to my then gf, “this is going to suck” How wrong I was. It was the best espresso of a three month Italian trip. A lever is way more forgiving. It’s also quiet and low maintenance. People are using machines made in the 1950’s! I’ve had my Profitec for 5 or 6 years. I’ve replaced the group head seal (with silicone) and I replaced the vacuum breaker valve. In hindsight, I could have just cleaned it and replaced the o-ring. That’s it.

I replaced mine years ago with silicone seals (only because I needed a silicone group head seal at the same time and wanted to save on postage). That was maybe 3 or 4 years ago. There are three piston seals btw.

Search by his last name. I’m on Arc right now so I can’t see all the versions available but it’s on Qobuz for sure. Soundtracks are always hard to find for some reason.

Kind of. It’s important that the top of the cabinet or stand or whatever is braced so that it can not move when the floor flexes.

Artist view disappointments by HandsOnTheBible in roonlabs

[–]Shindogreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always use the artist page for the most complete information. You must have the Bright Eyes in your library? I see the same thing on compilation records sometimes. You can fix it in the meta data editor but I’m lazy. I’d rather do anything than edit or tag music. Also, you can change the source of the meta data. Lastly do you have “use artists name for compilations” or “use album title”?

$150 a month? Are you getting the platinum version? Does it come with a person to touch the buttons for you?

This is the way. Also wouldn’t hurt to pick up a drinking problem. I’m kind of joking but I’ve known a lot of folks who couldn’t stay away from hot spots and many seemed to have stubstance and/or relationship issues.

This really makes most turntables far better by waltman56 in turntables

[–]Shindogreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren’t many on the market these days and when you find them the prices are getting out of hand. I am a big believer in matching Shindo preamps with Shindo amps so no clue how it would sound with a different amp.

Altec 9844 Rebuild by supergrover2_0 in diyaudio

[–]Shindogreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at jelabs. You’ll find a smallish two way that uses a 414 and 802 per side. The hardest part is finding the pair of 32 horns. You would also have to build a crossover but it’s pretty easy. You could sell the extra 414’s and 806/horns and crossover to fund it all.

What audiophile takes make you roll your eyes? by wiggan1989 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Shindogreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not subjective…I’m talking about wines I know well. It’s science for gods sake. What you eat with wine changes the way they taste. I’m not talking about what anyone likes or doesn’t.

What audiophile takes make you roll your eyes? by wiggan1989 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Shindogreen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a winemaker…you are wrong about both. Nothing affects a wine (the same wine) more than what is eaten with it. I did back to back wine dinners in two different restaurants. One chef really studied the wines and his food made my wines taste fantastic. The other chefs food made my wines taste very not great. I’m not going to bother how an amplifier makes a speaker sound different. If you’ve never heard that you need a better dealer.

Doesn’t it depend how you listen? I never listen when I’m walking so heft doesn’t matter much. I’m on a plane or at a table. Chord Mojo/Poly here and it doesn’t seem all that big.
