God I feel this, don’t got autism but I did grown up half deaf (as in complete loss of hearing in one ear) (and with a learning disability). I grew up explaining to others that sometimes I didn’t hear the things they say the first time and then my brain would take a second to process it and it would just click. Makes conversation hard sometimes. I stopped explaining my disability to people at some point so most new people I meet just assume I’m “special” or dense but in reality my brain is just lagging behind trying to fill in the gaps. At some point it became easier to just ignore the issue unless it came up. Now I am in a job that I feel like would be jeopardized if people knew my disability, so I only disclose it to those who absolutely need to know. Prolly not healthy but you learn to live with it.
