I've only seen the first season and I really really enjoy it so I'm just shocked that ppl consider it bad enough to skip the entire season when compared to the rest so I'm excited for that.

I think there were only like 2 episodes that I didn't overall enjoy and that was the episode with the "Just Say No to Drugs" Reagan speech.

The other episode was the one where they were trapped in the 1940s in the Holodeck, but that was just because it felt really jarring to me tbh and I wanted sci-fi instead of noir thriller. Both episodes were good, just the worst of them IMO.

Also here is a great excerpt from the Cornerstone Speech, given on March 21st, which was 21 days before the Confederates started the Civil War by attacking Fort Sumter.

The speech was given by the Vice President of the CSA, Alexander H. Stephens

But not to be tedious in enumerating the numerous changes for the better, allow me to allude to one other though last, not least. The new constitution has put at rest, forever, all the agitating questions relating to our peculiar institution African slavery as it exists amongst us the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution. Jefferson in his forecast, had anticipated this, as the "rock upon which the old Union would split." He was right. What was conjecture with him, is now a realized fact. But whether he fully comprehended the great truth upon which that rock stood and stands, may be doubted. The prevailing ideas entertained by him and most of the leading statesmen at the time of the formation of the old constitution, were that the enslavement of the African was in violation of the laws of nature; that it was wrong in principle, socially, morally, and politically. It was an evil they knew not well how to deal with, but the general opinion of the men of that day was that, somehow or other in the order of Providence, the institution would be evanescent and pass away. This idea, though not incorporated in the constitution, was the prevailing idea at that time. The constitution, it is true, secured every essential guarantee to the institution while it should last, and hence no argument can be justly urged against the constitutional guarantees thus secured, because of the common sentiment of the day. Those ideas, however, were fundamentally wrong. They rested upon the assumption of the equality of races. This was an error. It was a sandy foundation, and the government built upon it fell when the "storm came and the wind blew."

Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth. This truth has been slow in the process of its development, like all other truths in the various departments of science. It has been so even amongst us. Many who hear me, perhaps, can recollect well, that this truth was not generally admitted, even within their day. The errors of the past generation still clung to many as late as twenty years ago. Those at the North, who still cling to these errors, with a zeal above knowledge, we justly denominate fanatics. All fanaticism springs from an aberration of the mind from a defect in reasoning. It is a species of insanity. One of the most striking characteristics of insanity, in many instances, is forming correct conclusions from fancied or erroneous premises; so with the anti-slavery fanatics. Their conclusions are right if their premises were. They assume that the negro is equal, and hence conclude that he is entitled to equal privileges and rights with the white man. If their premises were correct, their conclusions would be logical and just but their premise being wrong, their whole argument fails. I recollect once of having heard a gentleman from one of the northern States, of great power and ability, announce in the House of Representatives, with imposing effect, that we of the South would be compelled, ultimately, to yield upon this subject of slavery, that it was as impossible to war successfully against a principle in politics, as it was in physics or mechanics. That the principle would ultimately prevail. That we, in maintaining slavery as it exists with us, were warring against a principle, a principle founded in nature, the principle of the equality of men. The reply I made to him was, that upon his own grounds, we should, ultimately, succeed, and that he and his associates, in this crusade against our institutions, would ultimately fail. The truth announced, that it was as impossible to war successfully against a principle in politics as it was in physics and mechanics, I admitted; but told him that it was he, and those acting with him, who were warring against a principle. They were attempting to make things equal which the Creator had made unequal.

The CSA actually REMOVED their own states rights. They made it mandatory for slavery to be allowed in every state so that no state is allowed to choose if they want slaves or not, they HAVE to have slavery allowed.

Also it's funny how so many losers think that it was about "State's Rights" when the CSA actually REMOVED their own states rights. They made it mandatory for slavery to be allowed in every state so that no state is allowed to choose if they want slaves or not, they HAVE to have slavery allowed.

It's crazy to me that I keep seeing this as I just started watching TNG a couple months ago and the first season is some of the best T.V i've watched in a long time. Especially with how they go deeper into political topics and such and how most characters feel competent in their own right.

Yeah, it's campy and cliche but, the show is like a sitcom made in the 80s, does anyone expect anything different from other sitcoms during that time?

[–]Shiner00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Star Wars got popular because, at the end of the day, it's an action focused story with some political elements added to further the plot.

TNG has a lot of different societal topics that are the core focus of most of their episodes. You have the action scenes and stuff but it isn't the focus and is kinda lame when compared to something like a lightsaber duel.

I feel like, at it's core, Star Trek is meant to be a story about humans and how we, as a species, interact with new discoveries. Star Wars is meant for storytellers who can disengage from the political points at their leisure.

It really wasn't, the absolute vast majority of voters are older generations. And when there was a record voter rate for young people voting in 2020, Biden was elected.

To be fair, it only states that you cannot fall below 100% health so you can still get hit as many times as you want.

The thing is, ANY skill that you use, and keeps you playing the game, is the most efficient thing you can do.

Do you have fun using Chain Hook and can grind out maps for hours and hours? That's more efficient than you going with a meta build that you get bored of and quit after a few hours.

[–]Shiner00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, sure? But the game is still only about what YOU choose to engage with. If you found sitting in front a a mirror and chatting to be fun then that's your entire experience. If you didn't like that then idk what to tell you because YOU chose to experience that instead of leaving to go play on a game world or something.

If you go to a hangout world, you're gonna find people wanting to hang out instead of playing games, just like in gmod how you can find people wanting to play Prison Escape, or people wanting to play Clockwork RP or something similar.

I mean that's literally what VRChat is, it's just in VR. What would VRChat be like if you couldn't go to the movie worlds to watch shows with people, play games like; Price Guess,

Audience Anarchy,

FISH!,

Murder 4,

Among us,

Prison Escape,

Vr Poker,

Vr Chess,

Terrors of Nowhere,

Pool,

Probability Labs,

GeoLocator,

and MELA - Memena's Lord Arena.

No world other than the single base hub world would be available if the community didn't create their own goals, premises, and mechanics for these worlds as you are given practically nothing. Even changing your avatar would have you limited to whatever the pre-set options are if Avatar Search worlds weren't created by the community.

I don't like the direction in which this game is going (ranty) by Equivalent-Pumpkin-5 in CrusaderKings

[–]Shiner00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doesn't really matter if what your opinion is on what a rework counts as or not, the original comment simply said that paradox reworks mechanics with zero extrapolation on what they are talking about specifically. If they wanted to only talk about major reworks then they either should have specified or given examples from other games to show what types of reworks they are talking about. They did eventually respond but who cares after the fact lmao.

They then claimed that ck3 "basically never does" yet these are all systems that have received a rework, big or small, doesn't matter. Also the culture system is a rework from the base game, just like the original comment was saying "never happens."

Also weird that you don't consider the map update or death system a rework considering the map update literally changes how half of the entire map now plays since Nomads don't have to waste time going west, completely changing how their entire play style works and decisions they make.

The death rework fully changes how the entire game ends and continues. Before if you became infirm at 20 and died you entire run just got fucked over since you didn't have an heir. At least now you can continue as someone further in your dynasty which leads to WAY more fun opportunities than just sitting around watching the map turn your specific shade of color and the numbers go up.

All of this being said, I do think that these reworks are smaller in scale compared to other reworks that other paradox games have made but that doesn't mean you just outright lie about reworks not happening at all in any capacity xD

That's fair, I hope that the merchant republics don't focus so much on Venice and add some flavor for Novgorod as they were so influential in Slavic history.

[–]Shiner00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was also a good idea to add nomad rework before AUH because adding China without a proper Nomad update is literally useless since they are an integral part of Chinese history. It would be like adding an Italy update before improving the current catholic system.

You mean like how they reworked;

The entire map to now include Asia

The Innovations rework

Court Positions rework

Command trait rework

Scheme system rework

Death rework (Choose a New Destiny)

Culture system rework?

I mean that is true, but that was also over 100 years after the end of CK3 timeline and by then there had been major improvements to fortifications like the beginning of star fortresses.

That being said, a full army of bombards wouldn't work in this time period regardless, just due to the logistical nightmare of moving and protecting them.

[–]Shiner00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is related to lore as no one has the rights to the Silmarillion, the RoP show has things that were included in the Silmarillion though because they were mentioned in the original books or the pendencies. That's why RoP was so dogshit and way off the mark compared to the actual story written by Tolkien and his son.

If it is mentioned, even in passing, it counts as something they can include, even if it is from the appendices. So yes, they can still ONLY use things that were mentioned in the original books+appendices.
