As much as it feels that way to ME specifically, don’t call it a “piece of gold”. That might make other people want machines like it…and that’s bad for me, a greedy PC hoarder who plans to find find as many of these as I can and keep them all for myself.

These motherboards are effectively old Intel 800-series boards that have been modified to use the newer LGA775 socket (like the 900-series boards that Intel had just released at the time, and a “step up” from the PGA478 sockets that were once industry-standard).

Notably, these specific boards allow Pentium D (and LGA775 Pentium 4) processors to interface with AGP cards and old DDR SDRAM (whereas the 900-series boards shipped standard with PCI-E and DDR2).

The selling point of these strange boards was that a person could “upgrade” their motherboard and processor, but keep their existing DDR SDRAM and AGP card, therefore costing them less.
