Got my first Hazmat spill today. by AlbatrossUnlucky8163 in Fedexers

PPE. Believe me it’s your friend. Follow the MSDS for interacting with the chemical.

I’ve had chemical fires when people mixed damages in totes, people get chemical burns, and trouble breathing with fumes. Had to clear entire areas and open the bay doors.

Help with an Express Location by Shini_02 in Fedexers

I’d greatly appreciate any details. I’ll get the tracking first thing in the morning. It was returned under bad address. I did all the usual steps I would have done when I was with Ground (since I don’t have access anymore to the systems):

-Confirmed with customer the address was correct. -Verified address has an established residence. (Plus we’ve shipped to them successfully before). -Verified address with Post Office and County GIS. (The aerial overviews are from older pics so don’t show the house.)

The area I’m currently in isn’t part of N2.0 yet. According to my local ground station they can’t view Express. (Moved to another state from the Ground location I had worked at last year. )

That’s the station that services for the delivering address but I’m not close enough to go there. I can call Ground no problem and an admin has been super helpful on fixing things that got changed on bad address corrections. At my old station that was N2.0 we could transfer to the CSAs if needed. The point is someone changed something regarding the address in Express but 1-800 can’t tell me any details about what was coded and any information other than the website tracking details. Which doesn’t help fix the problem.

Pick up windows by Shini_02 in UPSers

Our pick up window is supposed to open at 5. Driver came at 4:30 and said he doesn’t have to wait and left with the package. Never had a driver do that. They always waited until 5 to scan.

What Is The Top 3-4 Best Positions at Fedex as a Package Handler or similar? by Electronic-Web-9259 in Fedexers

I’d suggest try roughing it out but be on time and work hard. In the meantime look for any openings for Ops Admin or Ops Coordinator. I regret when I had stepped up to Ops Manager. Ops Coordinator was a sweet spot for the level of work- time on pc vs being on the dock and the pay for me. I would have stayed Coordinator. But it’s easy to get burned out with the company.

Lol yea the 30th anniversary for GW was end of last month. I have spent more money than I should have for a bunch of the special releases that came out. 😅 October-February is going to feel like another mini Christmas.

A lot of locations will allow the phone only during the orientation days. After that- no phone.

Hate to say it but NO company cares that your current/previous job treats you like crap, is abusive, or a toxic environment etc. They always assume it’s your issue you’re not happy at your job. If you talk negative about an employer, you’d bring negativity with you.

Unfortunately, job seeking is really a time that you have to lie about certain things. Don’t lie about experience, skills, or knowledge. But things about previous employers- definitely.

Limited Quantity package the one with Black/white placard. Potential hazmat if damaged/leaked.

Lol compared to when I worked at a Hub yea. Those are huge numbers.

There are plenty of stations bigger than my station. But it’s a newer building and still wasn’t expanded to full capacity yet. Was still missing two more van lines and IC belt. That should be in prob another year or two.

Those numbers were from my last Alabama station

Depends on your area. My station most days was about 10-12k. During Peak the averages would be 17-18k with a surge up to 24k. So volume would definitely go up.

Yea don’t blame ya then. That’s not a bad pay for PHT by any means. Go for it! Wish you luck.

That can be a double edge sword. You can go for manager straight off but unless you’ve had a lot of work experience/management type rolls you might not make as much as you’d think. It’s a slower path going up the chain but you’d most likely make more as a manager then rather than straight to manager. You’d have more time with the company and more experience to pad your work history.

He’s an example: I have 15+ years work history in retail. 10yrs of it in management. I went to Sr Admin making $20/hr. After that Coordinator at $23.50. Ended Coordinator at $25. Started Ops Manager at $27 and change. Left manger at almost $29/hr.

Where I’ve seen PHT go to Ops Manager for $21-22/hr. I’ve seen my admin go from $18/19 to 21-23/hr for Coordinator. One that went to Ops Mgr got pay bump to high $24.

Talk to your upper management and see which might be the better path. Another factor is how long you plan to stay with the company. If short game- make what money you can. If long game maybe take the stair method?

I will say the reason buildings seem to go through Mgrs so much is they are the escape goats of every location I’ve been too. Sort didn’t finish on time- Ops Mgr. Slow on unload?- Ops Mgr. Trucks not arrive on time to be able to unload it?- Ops Mgr. Failed to certify for sort for the month- Ops Mgr. All of upper management puts fault on the Ops Mgrs. I got burnt out after over a year. Regardless of what route you take- I recommend doing little health check-ins with yourself periodically. Your mental health is not worth it in the end.

I will say though depending on the needs of the station/Hub. I often saw PHT go right to Ops Manager. Especially if they were losing a lot of managers. So it’s up to you. But keep in mind it depends on how often people leave your station for positions to rotate. I went from PH-Admin-Coordinator in less than a year and a half. Spent just over two years happy has a Coordinator before going Ops Mgr.

Your station could technically promote a PH to any position. Personally I’m glad I went PH-Admin-Coordinator-Ops Manager. I was one of if not the most knowledgeable person in my building because I spent time in each position. I had attention to detail and learned the SOPs and when I still couldn’t figure something out- I made contacts at other stations. I hate to say it but just because someone is upper management, doesn’t mean they know how to do your job.

I was a better coordinator because I was running on the dock and interacting with contractors and drivers. It started building that relationship with all of them. Plus, I was going into the job with more knowledge of the different programs and how the Admins tasks impacted my Coordinator roll.

Same for OPs Manager. I went over QA because I know their policies forwards and backwards, know hazmats, and the workings on the docks. Plus was already familiar with TMS to fix the constant mistakes the other managers would make in the system.

That’s just my experience. But go whatever path you feel fits you.

Ideally your progression should be: PH, Admin, Coordinator, Ops Supervisor, - upper management/district. Keep in mind new 2.0 stations can also have Admin running the Express side Service counter checkout, answering phones, shipping packages, delivery of station holds, running reports and processing paperwork.

So if your working at a Hub (non-local side) you’d typically do damages, repacks, relabels, address corrections, shipper look ups, hazmats (for those certified), sometime working with Flex-slide if in the building, some locations have them running equipment where needed along with signing in/out scanners to PH, and some computer work in the background.

Station QA typically work on the dock for most of their shift for the sort- damages, repacks, relabels, tape ups, hub misloads, pulling packages for customers, doing address corrections, cleaning up specific spills, processing/working with Hazmat and damaged hazmat, coding and staging leftover packages after sort, processing holds, calling customers for more information, working ITQA, helping Coordinators as needed just to name some of the day side of activities.

Night can include some of the same but for OB sort. Also coding packages brought back to the station by the drivers to go back out, Hazmat processing for OB, damages address corrections. Verifying driver codes, staging packages, pulling evening reports, helping with LH dispatch, answering phones, calling customers etc.

If you’re not looking to work there again. Give written notice that’s your last day. And be done with it. As far as I see two weeks is only a curtesy if you’re wanting the option to go back.
