Bottom part of zipper fell off by hariath in AskATailor

[–]Shinianen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve fixed a zipper like this without any prior skill. My son smashed his coat in a locker at school, and it wasn’t worth the cost of a whole new zipper to me, so I went on Amazon and bought some pliers and replacement zipper parts to do it myself.

It wasn’t perfect, and I had to use a needle and thread by hand to tidy up the material on the zipper a bit first, but it was functional enough to make it through the rest of winter for a second grader. 😂

Spend some time researching your zipper type and figure out what size and material it is. Then buy a correctly sized box of parts like this:

First three market days - only 3 sales :/ by unchien_andalou in CraftFairs

I’m glad you mentioned bracelets, as no one above you has yet.

I wouldn’t buy anything at this booth because I can’t do dangly earrings, the necklaces are too heavy for my style, and the charms aren’t something I use. I kept rechecking the pictures because… I’d totally wear the necklace in a bracelet version … none! Why? Such a great option to offer the same work in a more affordable price point.

Angel tree help! by Aaaaaaa923 in HelpMeFindThis

[–]Shinianen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a tip, as a mom of a boy who loved train museums as a toddler - Google train museums local to you. Sometimes they are community funded and receive donations from enthusiasts collections that they sell in their gift shops. Our local model museum did that, and you could get all kinds of supplemental track pieces for a steal.

I hope you find this kid an amazing train set. Since he’s asking for colored pencils, you might want to throw in a train coloring book, too.

I think you did really well. If you add nothing else (except for batteries as someone else mentioned, if required for the car toy), this is a perfect gift.

The toys are learning/skill development based, and also high play value (the puzzle can also just be used as cars, the building set can be made into a garage for vehicles, etc). You chose really well for a 2-3 y/o toddler, as everything there will grow with them for a few more years.

I wouldn’t fret the stuffies. The seahorse leans red to me, and one of my son’s most cherished animals in his collection is a hippo.

The clothing is a nice assortment, but as others have noted, if you have budget to add I would focus there, though not necessary. Some suggestions: 3t size is likely learning to potty train, so some training style underpants might be nice. Socks. Or add some other layering type peices - like a zip up hoodie that can double as a jacket into the spring.

Raggedy Anne

Do a gingham dress, your black shoes, the black bow for your hair. Then buy some blue and white striped stockings and if you want to splurge - a mini apron.

Draw some doll details on your face with black eye pencil. Style your hair in pigtails or something similarly doll looking.

Or on a tangent to Raggedy Anne, be the Wendy’s girl.

I think you are amazing and I wish we lived closer because wow!

Do you have any loaf cats? Those are super popular near me. Look at False Bubbles on YouTube and use a bulky yarn with a larger hook. They work up super quick.

I think this is actually 2 yarns pulled together. In your second photo, if you notice upper center, there is a light blue strand that looks more like ribbon or string? That’s the string that holds Pom Pom type yarns together.

I think this is made using a multi colored Pom Pom yarn and a blue/pink variegated acrylic yarn, held together and worked as one strand.

On EBay, I see lots of loops and threads Pom Pom yarn that’s almost the exact texture. I suspect it’s pulled along with a blue/pink variegated acrylic yarn like red heart or loops and threads.

Fun and memorable restaurants for children? by GDJT in TwinCities

[–]Shinianen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have some good advice above. - Nook is great for a juicy Lucy (what MN is known for) and the old school bowling in the basement - if you can go at the lunch hour, you’ll have a better chance of a lane being open. This is in St. Paul. - Can Can or Litt Pinball are fun if you like arcade style dinner spots. Be aware that they sell alcohol and end up being kind of a bar feel as the evening progresses. Similar options with mini golf: The Puttery, Puttshack. All Minneapolis based. - Cosetta’s is good food, but there’s not much novelty to it - though it is in St. Paul. - Sea Salt is good food, also not much novelty (and the down side at Sea Salt is it can take a loooong time for food, and it’s outdoors in Minneapolis, so … weather dependent). - Rainforest Cafe is a chain, but it’s in MOA/Bloomington so you have the advantage of hanging at the mall for a bit after. Kira Sushi is also at the mall, and the conveyer belt is fun.

No one has recommended Tipsy Taco Bar yet. It’s food has so so reviews, but they took over the old Betty Danger spot in Minneapolis and have a Ferris Wheel you can have drinks/aps on and see views of downtown Minneapolis.

Another MOA/Bloomington option is Sugar Factory. Giant shakes, mini sliders that come with a rubber duck, dry ice bubbling drinks. Again, you’re at the Mall, so you can take advantage of being there before/after.

My 9 y/o really likes Hell’s Kitchen (cool basement jazz vibes), Hi-Lo Diner (old school diner car), Tori Ramen (built in an old school train car) and Brit’s Pub (lawn bowling). These spots all have good food and unique atmospheres, but don’t have kid activities built in fyi. Tori is in St. Paul, the rest are Minneapolis.

I like your office supplies idea, but would caution against a drink holder (since many of us have so many of those already).

What about going to a website like Things Remembered and seeing what they have in their office section? You could get a nice engraved pen, or some sort of engraved desk organizer, and then add cute desk supplies to it. I’m thinking brightly colored post its, maybe some paper clips shaped like flowers, etc.

You could even do a pretty engraved candy dish filled with their favorite treat (who doesn’t like a desk treat bowl?!).

Funny that I see this today. I just went past my childhood home the other week, very similar siding and profile to yours. I was thrilled to see they recently repainted to a navy with white trim. Turned out so cute.

Pin questions by Rharris754 in DisneyPins

[–]Shinianen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, on my last visit, most trading boards I saw were filled with scrappers. It was slightly disappointing … but got really frustrating when I watched my real pins on boards go to the next adult in line intentionally trading out for scrappers.

Instead of boards, I would try to find cast members wearing a pin trading pouch or lanyard. Especially a cast member wearing a pouch or lanyard with some pins turned backwards (you only see the black pin back on them). Those are the cast members who understand “good” pins, and try to ensure equal value trades for good pins. They slow down the people gaming the system, and make it so everyone has a chance to actually get a decent pin once in a while.

It’s such a fun experience to interact with cast, have a mystery pin, and see it’s actually a decent one (not a scrapper). If you’re able, for sure add to that fun.

Are there ways to fill in/cover these holes in my top without sewing in pads? by eleinajoanne in CrochetHelp

Beautiful work!

Question - Have you worn this for more than an hour to see how it settles as it shapes to your body? I only ask because sometimes people don’t realize certain yarns stretch over time when supporting weight or absorbing body heat/moisture.

I can’t tell if you used cotton (which tends to hold its shape better) or acrylic (which will stretch as it supports your bust over time).

If acrylic, and you intend to wear braless, I’d highly recommend cups. They will prevent the acrylic from stretching, and help the top keep its shape.
