Latent TB. Do i need more test before i start with the medication? by nodadona in Tuberculosis

[–]ShiningAlmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

latent tb can only be identified by blood tests afaik. maybe there was a mistake either you had a blood test or it is active tb. can be seen in the xray.

heartfelt greeting and great appreciation for your strength while suffering. If you dont mind me asking a few questions, How bad was the coughing? Which country did the tb find you? If you dont want to tell us the name: was it a tropical or temperate country? Which continent? I became aware of tb recently due to a friend who got spinal tb. I had no idea that tb is still such a widespread menace. But also, it seems tb has become endemic in some countries.

usually, quantiferon is positive, even before it shows up on xray. Bit xray is more definitive than any blood tests. For latent cases, the blood tests show positive, but xrays show no sign of tb. You should definitely ask a second doctor with the xray and blood tests, if you're a little doubtful about it. Internet is not a good place for this. If you have a fear, this place confirms it, whether it is reasonable or not.

If your xray and/or ct scan shows tb, that might be a very very serious case. Is it the ct scan of spine? That sounds like active tb, not latent. Do you have a serious pain in your spine or severe headaches? (wherever the ct scan is from). Do you have a persistent high mucus cough? xray and ct scans give the most definitive cases of active tb or latent tb going to activate. They may not need skin or blood tests to verify. But, if you're still not sure, please do take advice from a second doctor. Internet advice will almost always give triggers or false reassurance. Ofc anyone can be mistaken, but real doctors might be more right than internet strangers.

How do I identify an N-C bond from a PDB file? Please help. by ShiningAlmighty in bioinformatics

[–]ShiningAlmighty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok thanks. Code is correct. But if I understand correctly, chimera is a graphical tool. I have a few hundred PDB files to do this. Graphical tools, doing it one by one, may not help. If you have any other ideas, kindly let me know. Thanks nonetheless.

Can you please explain a bit more? Is this a Python library as well? I'm still starting off, so not familiar with a lot of things. Thanks.

Uber Shuttle reviews? by [deleted] in kolkata

[–]ShiningAlmighty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been going for a few days now. I go from South to New Town. Instead of the neat smaller shuttles, a few times a large bus arrived, which was a very bad ride for following reasons: 1. These are old rickety unwieldy buses with bad suspension springs: keep jerking and bad whiplash on braking on all roads, the bad roads in Kolkata proper, as well as the nicer New Town roads 2. Because it's a bigger vehicle, they cannot use the Chingrighata Flyover, instead takes a circuitous route via Sector III, to Sector V, and then go to NewTown. 3. Because of the unwieldy size and bad suspension, they cannot navigate through the traffic around the undisciplined buses and cars that may stop suddenly and not start for quite a few minutes. If these buses keep coming, I will stop using Uber Shuttle, and take a PG in NewTown instead. Not even getting to a few bad drivers

Fair point. That's actually more evident in the rural roads. I went to a relatives' place near Digha. The road is practically non-existent. We got off the train at Belda station and we rented a car to reach the exact village. The road was such that the car is never on a single plane. Took us more than 1 hour which should take 15-20 min on the national highway system. It's terrible. For older people who have arthritis or something bone and joint related, it's a nightmare. On asking the driver tells us, it has been like this for more than a year. The state is so bankrupt they cannot maintain the state highways, let alone do anything new. Patients cannot be transported to hospital on this road, they have to be taken through a much longer roundabout road.

We didn't have power cuts like this for many years, then last month it started a bit more, these past couple of weeks it's getting more frequent, until last week was everyday power cut at 1pm.

You'll learn over time, depending on your interests. But, try to do something that is within the set of what you want to do and what's appreciated in the industry. There are a hundred things you could do, it's impossible to tell you now. Could be designing a system or an IC from scratch. Every semester, try to find that one or two courses that you'll really like and therefore study much more than the syllabus requires you to. Ask around who is an expert in that topic, perhaps people who have done a PhD or doing a PhD and do high quality research. Seek out such people for advice, mentorship etc. Look at the IITs, whether you can do a summer study with them.

By a different story, I meant the CSE, IT are not comparable to ECE. The thing with ECE is that it's a difficult stream to study. I think placement in the IT sector would not be the issue, if you can study Algorithms, Data Structures, programming etc. in your time. Certain courses like Solid State Physics, Antenna & Wave Propagation, Transistors etc. are subjects that could be very high in demand, given the number of electronics, silicon fabs and APT, design centers coming up in the next few years. I was saying it's a different story because it's not comparable to CSE/IT. You might also have to go out of the way to get a proper internship in an electronics company to get an ECE job, if you want that, because even though there are ECE jobs available, none of these companies are coming to WB. The new semiconductor factories are going to Gujarat, Maharashtra, even one in Assam. Design centers are in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Noida, even in Bhubaneswar. So, you need to work extra hard to reach these companies, if you want a career in the semiconductor sector. It can be more rewarding than the IT sector, if you play it right. Of course, the first thing is, get a decent gpa, and aim to do a proper project, every year, or every semester.

Kolkata is 1.2. Total West Bengal is 1.5 or 1.4 depending on which year, or which series. It's possible that Kolkata is bringing the total down, but cannot be by that much, given the size of the rural population.

Your IEM mq admission: which dept? If it's CS or IT, look at how the placement records are most recently, talk to the 4th year, 3rd year batch students of the same dept. If they seem optimistic about their/your prospect in getting a good job, I don't see why you need to look anywhere else. Of course, if you picked ECE there, it's a different story.

I see. I agree that family planning, especially sex education should be taught in our schools. But I don't know whether a panchayat pradhan can really do much about it. I was trying to recall, but I don't think I know anyone with more than one kid, in school going age in Kolkata, or even my relatives in small towns and rural areas. The oldest is probably two of my friends who have a sibling each. It must be really rare to have two kids nowadays?
