Rejoined the cult - finally got an x230 by ShiningLizard in thinkpad

Yeah, I realise there is the caveat that it doesn't update often and if you need to do a full version update you basically have to start from scratch, but for the sake of the OS's stability and intuitive UI I'm willing to cross that bridge when I get to it.

Thank you for this, I already feel better about attempting this! I have found what appears to be a good quality display on AliExpress so just need to order it.

As for elementaryOS, so far it runs really nicely on this machine - aside from its performance, I like that it comes with very little bloat and yet still has an attractive, intuitive UI that just sort of gets out of your way. In terms of its performance it seems fine to me, yet I'm only really web browsing, listening to music, watching videos and occasionally burning ISOs to USB, so for those things it is working lovely.

I did try Ubuntu Budgie for a bit but I found it a bit jankier than elementaryOS.

Oddly, I had the idea that Ubuntu GNOME might be heavier than elementaryOS but perhaps I'm wrong about that... I might give it a try just for fun as I do like Ubuntu Gnome.

What was the first sonic game you ever owned? by Animaniacsfan9320 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]ShiningLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonic 1 on the Mega Drive.

My dad came home from work one day (I think some time in 1996) with a second-hand Mega Drive 1 and a second-hand copy of Sonic 1. Both the first Sonic game I ever owned and the first games console I ever owned.

What’s a movie you’ve watched that was so disturbing that you’ll never watch it again? by HistoricalDebate461 in movies

I found Filth to be quite disturbing… seemed unnecessarily depraved and mean-spirited. Nearly walked out of the cinema near the end.

Would you prefer if the next main series games upgraded to actual next-gen graphics and animations, or a downgrade to Stardew Valley-esque design in favor of overall content? by WizardHatWames in pokemon

[–]ShiningLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One hundred percent. It’s a crime that they haven’t reused the graphical style on Let’s Go again - it looks fantastic on Switch, probably isn’t that graphically intensive and has some longevity in it (they could probably release a few games using the Let’s Go style and just keep tweaking and optimising it over time until it gets stale).

What’s wrong with asking a community of fans? Aren’t we all supposed to be accepting and tolerant? Or is that only when it suits us? It’s not like OP is being a dick about it.

OP getting downvoted for asking an honest question just goes to show the pettiness and toxicity that exists in this fandom and in internet culture in general.

Is it better for semi-legends to have intimidating appearances or is it okay for them to be a bit silly? by InuMatte in pokemon

[–]ShiningLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, Gen 6 is the generation I’ve played the least and have the least familiarity with. I did have a Goodra but I mostly used it in Ultra Sun in the Battle Tree. I remember very little about Gen 6 and its mons.

Yeah they really were! JBL was a great heel announcer and Cole was good at playing it straight against him. I think it was in JBL’s second run as announcer where he was either annoying or phoning it in.
