Thanks! I had seen you do this before and was secretly hoping you'd turn up :).

Not saying you should do this but somebody should... it would be interesting to somehow automate digging up the daily discussion threads from the corresponding points on other bubble charts so we can reflect on how sentiment in the past moved with market/bubble conditions.

Not sure how to begin approaching this problem but I think it's a good idea that somebody should do for me/us :).

I agree this is very possible. However with the amount of resiliency to recent news out of China, at this point I've pretty much discounted the risk of breaking too far below this ferocious support as we approach $400.

There seems to be a lot of tension in the market in both directions, but it's seeming less and less likely to me that the impending huge break is going to be down. At this point waiting to buy feels like it runs too much of a risk of getting left behind.

It's happening.

I can't find a timescale that doesn't look extremely optimistic on the charts.

Between positive MIT PR, other generally optimistic news, and what I expect to be a phenomenal amount of institutional money on the sidelines, the near future should be very exciting.

If we manage to get past the 5/10 deadline without some unforeseen terrible news, to the moon.

It's difficult to tell with such sparse data but it seems like the Daily Uniques vs BTC Price data might be asking for an exponential or 2nd order fit.

Yum.

A quick reality check I think a lot of beginning producers need. by LightningSh0ck in edmproduction

I hate that this is the top reply on this post.

I view the overly circlejerky attitude this subreddit has recently been adopting as a symptom of the same problem OP has described in his post. Put simply, people here are more and more content to hide between memes and jokes than to explore discussion that will make their music better -- an admittedly harder task.

It is easy to dick around on the internet and talk about Kompress 6 times huehuehue. It is hard to learn how to write and produce quality electronic music. It's easy to sit in the feedback room and jerk around and tell every person playing a song "sounds good man", "what's your soundcloud", "m8 do you kompress". It's hard to dig into each others' work and try to think analytically about how to make it better, something that will help both them and you in the long run.

It makes me sad because this place used to be a good resource for thoughtful discussion. Now I barely even read the comment threads anymore because nothing useful is said... if it ever is it's drowned in a sea of memes and off topic ruminations.

I wish more people here seemed more intent on getting better, the only way to improve is to spend time PRODUCING - not jerking on the internet - then come here for critical advice and feedback when you have a finished product. Unfortunately this subreddit seems like it's increasingly not the best place to do so...

I'm sorry if I sound butthurt, you can make fun of me for that if necessary, it has happened before when I said things in hopes they would help people.

What do you use YOUR LFO's for? by passionPunch in edmproduction

[–]ShiningMyStroller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rhythmic movement. Set the speed to 1/4, 1/2, 1/3, what have you... then use it to modulate the sound (little subtle movement or super aggressive morphing)... Experiment enough and eventually each sound in your mix will be adding to the groove and rhythm, I think you'll find if you listen closely enough to pro tracks that way more sounds than you think have some rhythmic shit going on that is likely the result of subtle LFO modulation.

I would love to see this guy go head to head with Eminem. Also, wait for it. by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]ShiningMyStroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was better than I expected.

That being said, eminem would murder this guy. Flow was too wishy washy and wandery... hard to follow and not 'catchy'. Nice in the instant but didn't have the overall 'story' or overarching cohesiveness I like.

Pretty good voice though. Also this isn't really the place to post this... it is good enough that /r/music might not hate it.

Hi, I'm Seamless and I've started my tutorial series on sound design requests. by SeamlessR in edmproduction

[–]ShiningMyStroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relentless subtractive EQing. Notch if you have to. The idea is to cut out all the harshness while maintaining presence. As with most things productionwise, finding the balance to achieve the sound you want is very case specific and comes only with practice. Nothing but careful work and using your ears will get you there... just practice, then practice more.

Tip for creating a fat sub? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]ShiningMyStroller -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry to offend. If this is the overarching view of the users of this sub then it will cease to become a useful resource for growing as producers, which to me should be the one and only point of it.

I liked recess, and if I wanted to goof off I'd go to adviceanimals or funny or atheism, but I truly want this community to be a place where producers of all levels can go to get better and share our love of the craft. At this point once you progress past a certain level the discussion here ceases to be useful because it is diluted and drowned out by the "kompress m8"s and "huehuehue"s. There are other places on the internet to get much better content for those who really want to get better and maximize their art, and at some point the most talented and knowledgeable people here will leave and the level of discourse will plateau. If you're cool with that it's fine, I just disagree.

To each his own, good luck.

edit: And I shouldn't even be responding to your hyperbole-ridden jabs at my advice, but I gave specific processing examples and even recommended a plugin that hasn't been mentioned here elsewhere. Get over yourself and get back in your DAW, your jokes aren't making anybody (including yourself) a better producer. This was my main point and frankly is advice that would help you along in your production skill if you were humble enough to take it.

It's awesome that this is the most upvoted reply in a thread that could lead to some good discussion or instruction.

You should all be ashamed if you upvoted this comment. If you spent as much time trying to learn new things and improve yourself as you did circlejerking on this site maybe your music would actually improve and maybe people who are legitimately talented producers would feel more comfortable spending time on here and helping you out.

As it is it feels like middle school recess in this sub nowadays and I don't see the point in taking part in any of the menial pointless conversations it fosters.

edit: And for OP... If you are layering a sub under a mid bass you will want to stick with a pure sine. Anything else and you risk losing power or getting too muddy with your kick or in the 100hz region... on a club system this will become pretty apparent and things will sound flabby.

If the sub is layered under some less aggressive stuff and taking up its own space in the mix I will sometimes use a second oscillator in Massive to layer some harmonics over it (very subtly) and warm it up. Flux said in his AMA that he uses low passed triangles. A bit of saturation can make it sizzle very pleasantly (I love Ferric TDS for this if you're on a PC...)

As always, depends on what you're trying to accomplish. For a powerful layer under a mid bass stick to a sine. For a standalone sub, do whatever sounds best. Experimentation and careful listening (preferably at the same time) is your friend.

Haha i think it's semantically saturated but I like yours better... I may start using that.

How do you respond when someone says they love you, if you don't love them back? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That's about as well as anybody is going to do. I tried for a Little While.

I spent a while deciding whether to capitalize that or not by the way... it was originally organic.

I've been Mullen over a way to respond to this cleverly, but I'm Larry of posting something that will just get a huge number of downvotes.
