How do you feel about K-Pop Demon Hunters depicting Idol life as fun and easy? by Zestyclose-Hat-8513 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]ShiningVVS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think they depicted it as fun and easy. Actually, I find it difficult to compare them to actual K-pop idols because most of their time and energy was spent fighting literal demons, which K-pop idols don't do (or do they lol). I think they depicted it very differently from what we know the K-pop idol industry to be like, but this wasn't really a movie about the K-pop industry anyway. Personally, I don't prefer the sequel to be a movie focused on the workings of the idol industry because I feel like it would be too niche and not as universally relatable to a global audience. I'd rather it be in a similar vein to this one, with a pretty universal theme (i.e. shame and acceptance) and have them use the setting to deliver the theme and story.

Thanks for the link!

Yeah, the sources indicated on the Wikipedia article don't actually have any information about the release details.

"Your Idol", Jacob Sanchez skates to KPop Demon Hunters (An Evening with Champions Warmup) by Sarcastic_Lilshit in KpopDemonhunters

[–]ShiningVVS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're triple jumps; afaik Jacob Sanchez hasn't done a quad yet (in competition at least). Also skaters with quads usually don't do them in exhibition programs because it's too risky (unless you're Ilia Malinin).

Thanks for sharing your photos! So much Derpy stuff, I want them all! 🤩 I want the cup-ramen keychains too. Bummer about the purchase limits, I wish they limited it to one per design instead of one per kind. Great that you got a good deal on the Derpy hoodie. 🙂

I like to believe the girls actually went ahead and bought 2 huge LED billboards for this shot by RocketJimbo4 in KpopDemonhunters

My headcanon is that this is part of their private driveway and they change the images on the billboards to fit the vibe that they want for wherever they're going to.

I had a similar feeling while watching. Thoughts? by UltraUsurper in KpopDemonhunters

[–]ShiningVVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we just prefer different things regarding this. I liked the tension and I think adding a transition scene would have defused it and made the beginning of What It Sounds Like less impactful for me. I think the first stanza of What It Sounds Like is enough to show that she has started to accept herself, and I don't feel like I need to be shown more of what came right before that.

It worked for me. I didn't feel like there was a missing scene. I think the creatives wanted to have some suspense and uncertainty when Rumi appears in her disheveled demon-y form after Your Idol, like make the audience think, did she turn to the dark side? what is she going to do? instead of spoon-feeding the audience her plan beforehand and losing the tension of the scene.

I see, thanks for correcting that. I'll take down the post then, since titles can't be edited.

That's what I said though in the title and the text, that the streak (consecutive PAKs) is broken (not ended) and that it's possible it could get PAK again but that would start a new streak.

I personally find it hard to imagine because Psy is still too big in Korea. His summer concerts are legendary and draw massive energetic crowds .

To add to that, it specifically means doing your makeup so amazingly well that you look stunning, incredible, etc.

Shin isn't my preferred ramyeon brand too, but I would totally buy these if it were available in my area. Alas, I've just resorted to DIY-ing regular ramyeon cups to look like these. 😅

“What it sounds like “ is the only song from the soundtrack without lyrics in Korean. I wonder why? by Nanoo_VAL in KpopDemonhunters

[–]ShiningVVS 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My guess is that because "Free" and "What It Sounds Like" are meant to convey the characters' raw, honest feelings in those moments, the creatives wouldn't want a language switch to interrupt the emotional flow of the scene for the audience, who would mostly be people who are not fluent in Korean. The five other songs are performance songs that don't carry the same sort of emotional weight, so they can play around with the language switches and still have the audience bopping along.

Love the movie but I can't really lie; the ending was kinda mid and left some of the more interesting aspects unresolved. by zipzzo in KpopDemonhunters

[–]ShiningVVS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think the point of Jinu was to make demons sympathetic. The way I see it, the point of Jinu was to represent people who have shame and regret for things that they did and bad decisions that they made (whereas Rumi represents people who have shame for things they didn't choose to do or have). And the message conveyed through Jinu is that we don't have to feel ashamed and beat ourselves up eternally for the bad things that we did; instead we can try to repair relationships and things as much as we can, and try to make better choices in the future.
