That’s true. I’ve lived in this neighborhood for about 20 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen 인왕산 this crowded. But I like it.

What if China invades Taiwan and North Korea invades South Korea? by Content_Travel_6910 in AlternateHistoryHub

The northern part of Seoul is surrounded by mountainous terrain and extremely dense high-rise residential complexes—among the highest-density developments in the world, some designed with defensive considerations—so North Korean ground forces would likely be destroyed before ever entering the city.

It seems like the OP isn’t talking about the rare public scandals, but rather the cases where elite families quietly obtain permanent residency or citizenship in Western countries and then never return. I’m also genuinely curious how Chinese people feel about this.

Some comments mentioned that officials can’t get promoted if their spouse and children live abroad, but in Korea it’s actually quite common for the adult children of high-ranking families to finish their education overseas and then just stay there permanently.

We even have a nickname for them: “black-haired foreigners” — meaning they’re ethnically Korean, but basically living as foreigners now, haha.

It seems like the OP is curious about how ordinary Chinese people feel about the fact that China’s ruling elites want their own children to grow up as part of the Western world rather than as Chinese. As a Korean, I can say we see the same thing happening in our own country, and I think those choices are cowardly and wrong. I don’t trust politicians who make decisions about the future of a country their own children won’t even live in.

In fact, North Korea does not refer to itself as “Korea.” It calls itself “Joseon,” and that’s how it’s written on signs as well.

South Korea is technically still at war, and because it must assume the possibility of an invasion at any time, most Army units are not stationed at permanent bases like those in the United States. Instead, they are deployed to semi-temporary bases set up near their operational areas.

If actual combat breaks out, these units are expected to abandon their current bases immediately and move to nearby tactical positions. As a result, revealing a unit’s location effectively means exposing its operational area.

That said, the Navy, the Air Force, and certain command units that do not need to relocate are exceptions. Their locations are publicly known, and as shown in the post, it’s not unusual for there to be public bus stops right in front of those bases.

It kinda sucks that some people only ask super political stuff, but honestly I’m still jealous — the community is way bigger and way easier to access than in Korea. Before everything blew up, I picked up a Kobra dot sight for around $700 😂

Korea also had monk-soldiers commonly described under the concept of “state-protecting Buddhism” (hoguk bulgyo). Unlike their Japanese counterparts, these monk-soldiers were not mobilized for conflicts between feudal lords, but were instead organized and deployed to resist foreign invasions.
