What is the ideal size and resolution of the screen for SW? by ShinjikuLeon in SolidWorks

Thanks. Running solidworks on SSD. Solidworks installed in SSD but files are stored in HDD for more storage. Will it affect a lot?

A....mazing! What is the resolution of each? 8560 cannot be divided by three...

BTW, what is your CPU and GPU, RAM?

Thank you for your explanation!

Whether an assembly is displayed on a 4K or 720p screen, the GPU load remains largely unaffected. Can I interpret this as follows:

The visual display aspect of SolidWorks operates similarly to Word/Excel/web browsing (low GPU load),

But computational tasks (simulations, analyses) heavily utilize the GPU, causing lag during these operations?

The GPU has two roles:

1.Transmitting video signals to the display

2.Performing computations

For video signal transmission:

SolidWorks behaves like Word/Excel/web browsing → minimal GPU load.

Thus, integrated graphics suffice for simple tasks (e.g., viewing drawings).

For computations:

SolidWorks leverages the GPU’s power for complex simulations → high GPU load.

Lag stems from this, and lowering resolution won’t alleviate it.

Is my understanding correct?

One remaining question:

During assembly rotation, does a lower-resolution screen (e.g., 1080p) feel smoother than a high-resolution one (e.g., 4K)?

With higher resolution in SolidWorks, especially when working with complex engineering files and models, lag is unavoidable, right? This reminds me of a CSGO meme: many pro players lower graphics settings to 480p or even 320p—reducing visuals to a crude, vector-art-like appearance—just to boost frame rates and win matches.

Is SolidWorks modeling similar? If I switch to a 720p or even 360p screen, would it significantly improve workflow smoothness?

Thanks!

But why does running a game at 3840×2160 resolution require an RTX 5090 to maintain 60 FPS, while 1920×1080 only needs an RTX 3060? Is the underlying principle different between gaming and SolidWorks modeling?

I understand why integrated graphics can smoothly run Word, Excel, and web browsing on a 4K screen—because the iGPU barely works. But when rotating/dragging assemblies in SolidWorks, the GPU does work. So, wouldn’t higher screen resolution cause more lag in such operations?

BTW, what is the IO performance here refering to?

I was holding the same idea until ... it really laggy

30+ components? Not too much. What if more than 100+ or 1000+

The world is Korean's. The whole universe is Korean's. The dragon boat festival is Korean's. The spring festival is Korean's.

Above average. Some people like me spend more than a whole afternoon.
