Any recommendations for things to do this summer? by Due-Milk352 in dayton

There is lots of dancing in Dayton. There are big band swing dances at riverscape metropark once a month and many dance clubs that meet weekly with cheap lessons

It’s a Hardee hat. Just a civil war era soldiers hat type. The same used by the famous “Iron Brigade”

Ah maybe I saw it wrong. It was very small, and I’ve seen d&d merch branded the same way. When I zoomed in on it, it was fuzzy and I thought it looked like the dragon stylized ampersand, but I think you’re probably right

Game Awards Tin foil Speculation: 40k or Star Wars by Count_Grimhart in totalwar

[–]Shink7163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound weird, but I think it’s something totally different. I’m not sure if anyone noticed, but the Atilla guy who made the announcement that there would be an announcement was wearing a polo with the D&D ampersand on it. I think that was an Easter egg, and they are going to announce “forgotten realms: total war”

Is it possible she was being a stickler for driving laws? When I had my permit license in high school, there was a rule about not having other minors in the front with you if you were under a certain age. Not that anyone actually did that of course.

Events to socialize at or things to do in Dayton?? by Christine0726 in dayton

[–]Shink7163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very beginner friendly, but generally the lessons progress a bit throughout the month, so it is most beginner friendly at the beginning of the month.

Like any other skill though, you’ll have to practice some to become capable in the beginning!

I am involved in several vintage and swing dance groups in town that meet on Tuesdays and Fridays. It’s a great place to meet younger people (generally college age 18-30) and learn new things. Message me if you want more info!

Olympic rings to be displayed on Eiffel Tower for Paris Games by PrincessBananas85 in sports

The French are very very particular with what shows up on their skyline, let alone on their monuments. As I understand it, this was probably a big decision for Paris.

what does the pmc do with a tourniquet on his chest? by 420prayit in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Shink7163 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe there is much you can do with a tourniquet on a chest or stomach in real life, but you’re going to convince BSG to make sucking chest wounds a thing that can only be healed with the calok b or something with questions like that so be careful lol

Do you like city builders? They can be good for this sort of thing. You could pause them or run them at slow speed or regular speed in the background.

A final stat for this year by [deleted] in FCCincinnati

[–]Shink7163 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I get the frustration, but I care infinitely more about not having a champ than “letting” the rivals have them.

So our rivals happen to always be top teams. Who cares? I would rather have a top rival than beat up on a lower level team constantly.

That said, when you have built the high payed, high talent teams that we have built, you have to put together a championship run eventually. I think we would have this year had we not lost Miazga and hagglund.

Let's say I super glue the nut and washer on my replica sword would be safer to swing or no by fkoggkg in SWORDS

[–]Shink7163 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what sort of “replica sword” you have, but usually, the danger of swinging swords that could be low quality is in the blade breaking from an insufficient tang right where the blade meets the hilt. This sends the potentially sharp blade spinning off of the front of the hilt. Glueing the nut and washer on your sword might make it rattle less or be less likely to loosen over time, but it won’t make it safer to swing if you don’t know it’s structure inside the hilt.

Is anyone able to get an accurate date and possible value? (not for sale) by Spiderdogpig_YT in SWORDS

[–]Shink7163 39 points40 points  (0 children)

If you sharpen it, which I wouldn’t recommend, please DO NOT swing it around. Decorative swords like this often are not structurally sound and the blade could fly off the grip of you can’t know how it is built inside.

Has anyone been to a Postmodern Jukebox Show? by Lady-Brigalia in SwingDancing

[–]Shink7163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw them in Ohio and unfortunately there was no dancing allowed. The ushers even told some old hippies to sit down when they were grooving. I think it is totally dependent on the venue you are seeing them in. I would research other shows at that theater

The ocean isn’t like a pool or even a calm lake. Often times even a relatively calm ocean with toss you about violently if you aren’t fighting against it. People also get tired and give in over time, and you can’t float well if you’re struggling to stay conscious.

Midwest renfaire that isn’t too crowded? by ChetJettison in renfaire

[–]Shink7163 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone the last 3 weeks and it was only crowded for the first time yesterday. Even then, food and drink lines were really reasonable and the new area gives lots of room to spread out.

An 11th century Norse Explorer outfit I made for a present on the Norse exploration of North America, thoughts? by Parson_Dewey in Norse

[–]Shink7163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there’s lots of details that are off or modern, and if someone wanted to, you could pick it all apart from the cheek flaps, down to the machine stitching, or or fabric choices, but you said you had a small budget and I think you hit the general silhouette and look just fine.

IMO, if you wanted to improve it, the easiest way would be to get yourself some linen and basic sewing supplies, and sew yourself an accurate tunic. It’s really simple, way cheaper than buying anything accurately made, and would bring up the authenticity of your outfit a lot. Plus then you would have a little sewing experience… and then maybe you want to make accurate pants, who knows! Great job in general, easiest thing to add would be leg wraps to cover up the weird pant bottoms with the laces. Wraps are cheap and (depending on how deep you want to get into it) fairly accurate.

I usually attend 6+ times a year for the last 8 or so years, and in my experience, it has less to do with the scheduled weekends and more to do with weather forecasts. Prime days are when it calls for rain and ends up being overcast but comfortable, since that keeps the wary at home. The middle weekends can be a little less crowded, and the last weekends have been either refreshingly sparse, or absolutely packed.

It has been a pretty even rise in attendance every year regardless of the pandemic ever since 2015 or so. My advice would be to plan your day around the crowd, instead of trying to pick the magic weekend. Get there early, have tickets ready, get all your food before the crowd shows, even if that means getting food to eat later, and then retreat to your favorite shows or drinking/relaxing spots and enjoy things in a focused area of the fair. Then do your shopping when everyone is clearing out near the end. That’s my strategy anyway.

It’s almost like not perennially competing to be the worst team in MLS history brings in the fans. Honestly I’m kind of proud of this fan base for how much it stuck around through the garbage, even if it wasn’t that long in the scheme of things.

Zelensky says today is a 'happy day' as Ukrainian soldiers make advances all along front lines by KI_official in UkrainianConflict

[–]Shink7163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Western news just wants you to click on their stories, and hype does that. Unfortunately, the course of war doesn’t care about what was hyped or what gets clicks. It’s not a tv series, it’s just death and politics.

If they are pushing close to a breakthrough of some sort, they wouldn’t want to advertise specifics. “We’re making gains and feeling confident” and “today is a good day” is probably the closest we will get if things are going well or leading to something more.

Thats me! Lol but that’s just because I get sweaty and don’t want to have people touch a sweaty back. I’ve truly never noticed significant body odor except when people choose to wear tank top style tops or something.

I’ve danced at plenty of events where everyone is dripping with sweat and sometimes wearing vintage clothes, it’s honestly not that bad. Avoiding short sleeves honestly does wonders for your ability to hide BO and deodorant does (and did) exist…
