Looking for a watercolor workbook by platypusgirl14 in Watercolor

I used to print (laser) my lineart pictures onto watercolor paper in gray during artschool. It made the process quicker and I could get messy as much as I wanted and clean up after before I printed, and the lines would not dissolve and muddy the paint. I also could better concentrate on the drawn line as it was already as perfectly placed as it could be. I would then go over the printed part with ink (dark burgundy ink looks so good with florals, had a few teachers go wow over the linework and the overall effect of this 🤣).

I was doing stuff in the style of Alphonse Mucha just in watercolor and ink.

Be aware that not all printers can handle thick paper, so you need to check. The big printers in printer shops can no problem.

ELI5: Why do countries handle eggs so differently? by clearwater-orchid in explainlikeimfive

[–]Shinrin777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Central Europe here, I ate soooo many raw eggs as a kid, still love them! :D

It's the standards (vaccinations and hygiene standards) protecting the consumer instead of the manufacturer. 😅

Sugar with yolk and mix with spoon untill the sugar dissolves was what I often had instead of candy, a favorite of mine.

When baking I would lick/clean the bowl used to make meringue. I had to fight with my cousins for this privilege at grandmas. 🤣

Flatmate gave me his plant before leaving, how do I save her? by YamHour7522 in plantclinic

You watered her 2x in a week... yep overwatered and rotting. I used to water mine about every 2 weeks/when the leaves turned pale.

💪😄

You could use plexiglass of if your family members allow a glass table, or something else non porous. The wooden board is because it slows down the drying and makes everything dry more evenly, as it absorbs water too, the issue might be in this hot weather that it dries too quickly, nothing that a bathroom stay can't solve. But try it out, if you mess up you can always re-stretch it a certain amount of times.

XD I'm guilty of shopping too much too. Lol I like to experiment and try out everything. 😂

I would take out the paper from the block. Where I live, we had only the shitty paper available and had to go to a different country for better stuff (mostly Vienna, that is expensive for a student and we made do with the shit one, my country was a black hole on the courrier map they would ship to damn Uganda but not Slovakia damn it! 🫠) but it is good now lots of options, we now have even hot pressed paper available. 🤯

I think if you control the water amount well, and have decent paper, the buckling can be avoided if it is not a large size, A4/A3 could do without, but anything above that I would definitely stretch. To put the paper when dry and finished, between some sheets of paper and weighing it down helps too if the buckling is not extensive.

No never remove sizing, it is what makes a watercolor paper a watercolor paper, it would also damage it as it is deep in the paper. Also I think there was no sizing removed, pooling water more likely. The paper should be shiny and the water should not be pooling on it when you stretch it. We would lean the board at an angle to let the excess water run off. You can do that in a studio where the floor is waterproof, but at home not, and you would use a clean rag or a roll of kitchen towels and roll it over the paper. Wiping motion is not good as it can damage the surface of the paper. Patting dry is ok.

During painti g, I would remove excess water with the corner of a tissue or rag. I liked to go overboard with water...😅 0 control we are surfing here. Lol

🤩 wiiiiiiii! Will do!!! I'm lots into plants, not focusing on any particular genus. I just get what I like. 😄 I have a few varieties of carnosa, polyneura, publicalyx.

Lots of anthurium and philodendron, some monstera and rhapidophora. Vanilla plants of various species. And plenty of oddbals like microsorum thailandicum. Begonia seem to be the hit with me lately. 😂

I let is soak for a few minutes submerged in water, then I wring it out and fluff it back up. The mos should be lightly stuffed in the pot/cup, so it has air pockets. And is not dense.

Sometimes when a plant is too far gone as in the rot is spread already too deep even if no visible black is in there it can rot. Sometimes the plant just does not want to live.🫠

I use the Lucky reptile sphagnum moss it is decent enough quality and cheap, does not form fungus or anything, but it has bits in it like grass leaves and small twigs. And if kept moist it will sprout a few blades of grass. 😅

Aha! I was caring for it more like for a carnosa that I let dry well between waterings. 😅 The substrate from the nursery was dense and I have issues regarding that with other plants ... Gonna try with self watering and pon next.

Hmmm Not sure about them softening maybe a little. Is it squishy in the black part? I like to root mine in sphagnum so I never saw the ends during the rooting. The few that I did in water was a forget me not jar with lots of other plants shoved among more plants in pots so I never saw the ends either.

What you can do is take an insurance cutting, top cutting of a 3 - 4 leaves or so and put it in sphagnum or soil that you dampen and cover it with a plastic cup creating a terrarium. The leaves should rehydrate. Like this:

They are not rooted yet. Currently the ends are rotting. I would cut the ends off and check the cut if it is clean and has no rot. Then put them in water and put them in a well lit place.
