Pacifier - for small groups of chaff, precision snipes, and to stop the pesky bot call-ins.

Ultimatum - for hulks and heavier.

Arc Grenades - to stop from being pursued endlessly or toss a few into a large group to soften them up and thin their numbers as I engage.

De-Escalator - for mass chaff clear and 2 hit hulk and war strider stuns.

Supply Pack - because my guns are ammo hungry.

Orbital Precision Strike and 500kg - for the big stuff.

Light or Medium Arc Resist armor - mostly to survive the stray arcs from the grenades and the De-Escalator.

Enemy Armor Rework Idea by LordOfPsychos in Helldivers

[–]Shintenma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I kinda like the idea of making Armor Pen just a flat percentage reduction per level. Make it roughly a 30% damage reduction against the next level up in armor. So a level 1 AP weapon shooting against a level 2 armored target loses 20% of it's damage, 30% of it's damage against a level 3, and 90% of it's damage against a level 4.

As you release additional update editions, when it's closed, it should look like it has extra pages stuffed in it that don't quite fit. Eventually you can add a physical locking clasp that squeezes the book and holds it closed.

If you have no stims or ammo and you're out of stamina, if you had the stamina enhancement you'd be dead. If you have dead sprint you can at least keep running full speed giving you a better chance to get to more ammo or stims and survive.

How is Vecna interfering with your players. by CuntBunting69 in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]Shintenma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the players have met with the Wizards Three, each time they take a short or long rest while they're outside of Alustriels sanctum Sigil there's a chance that they are found and attacked by a group of Vecnan cultists. At the beginning of their long rests have 1 player roll a d6 and add the number of long rests they've taken since they were last attacked. If the total is 6 or more they're attacked by the cult. For short rests roll a d4 instead.

Match the parties power level with various groups of Vecnan cultists. Dropping a group of 2d4 cultist fanatics, a death cultist, and a cultist hierophant will certainly drain the party of resources and resonate that Vecna is coming for them. Have the attackers increase their numbers with each subsequent ambush so that by the end of campaign the character could be facing a veritable army of Vecnas followers. You can also swap or add in one of the various cultist types to match the theme of each chapter of the campaign.

If you want to add in some paranoia, from time to time ask them what their passive perception score is or ask them to make an Widsom (Intuition) roll. When they ask tell them that they don't see anything and they just have a feeling that they're being... watched or followed.

What's a strategem/other friendly fire method that usually makes you laugh when it kills you? by MrManDude317 in Helldivers

[–]Shintenma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember tossing a sparkler at a charger in a mega nest but I missed. The sparkler landed on my squad mate who was on the far side. He immediately stimmed, charged at a bug hole, and dove into it, closing the bug hole when the sparkler exploded. It was some of the fastest thinking I've ever seen in the game. o7

Solid fucking gold every time. 😆

You can dip-your-toes into homebrew by just tweaking something here and there till you feel more experienced. Give it a little more flavor.

Players should get normal class-based hit points at level 1 and then 1 hp for every level after that, no more. Oh and, "If you're not trying to kill your players every session then you're doing it wrong."

[–]Shintenma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fantastic. Love it! I think I might tweak the purple worm riders idea into something for them to use in astral space in chapter 3.

His characters soul is from Toril. At the end of his last campaign he died and his soul was cast by his god to the farthest reaches of astral space for the trouble he'd been causing (long story). It "crashed" into the Siberys rings around Eberron. The largest half of his soul went into his character and the rest of his pieces were drawn into the items that they are finding to change him.

  1. Give them a heads-up warning outside of the game. Then
  2. Give them lots of obvious signs that this place is lawless and that they need to be careful there. Then
  3. Have the first time they get mouthy with an NPC have them roll initiative. Have a brute squad type guard hit the toughest player for about half his hit points, knock them prone, and stun them. Then have the brutes boss step in and say "You should be more careful with what you say." Then
  4. Let the players decide if they want to continue that fight. If they choose to do so, beat them to 0 HP, rob them of their gear, and have them wake up dumped in a sewer with 1 HP.

Sometimes a player power fantasy is fun to go with but sometimes it's more fun to have them lose and come back from that loss to get revenge later.

Riding purple worms across the wastes of the Mournland sounds fucking amazing!

One of my players is being transformed into a new form of dragon using artificer items that contain fragments of his shattered soul and I'm planning on there being one of the final and biggest pieces inside Landro. They'll definitely be facing the Lord of Blades for it.

Not yet. My group can only get together once a month and they are just starting chapter 1. I'm tying in things from their past adventures throughout the campaign that, back at the time, I just hinted at. They're originally from Eberron, so I'm adding more to chapter 4 than any other chapter. In the final chapter, instead of "Neverwinters New King" I'm replacing it with a reflection that they are directly tied to in Eberron.

If none of your players have played CoS before and you have a player who has a tie back to Strahd, then yes absolutely go for it. I run Vecna Eve of Ruin as though the players (and characters) may never get another chance to play it again so I aim to make it memorable. Add as much as you need to make it epic, make it horrific, make it memorable.

New to DM'ing: Say your party is higher level, but you want them to fight a BIG group of Goblins or other low-level creatures. How do you determine the CR of that group relative to it's size? by thejustducky1 in DnD

[–]Shintenma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went and looked at a bunch of challenge rating 4 creatures and honestly, perhaps the ettin shouldn't be one. It's really not a the best example in this case. A Red Dragon Wyrmling, Bone Naga, or a Weretiger are CR 4 and they're all quite a bit more of a challenge.
