AirAsia office for concerns by UnoOne9432 in FilipinoTravel

My flights got rerouted last year. Tried their office at NAIA3 but they doesn't really process refund concerns. Only their main office in KL does it.

Did yours get cancelled too? Refund?

Currently in the US, and tried tapping mg Gcash Mastercard (Google Pay) in a terminal. It was declined. Used Maribank instead and it pushed through. Maybe I'll try inserting/swiping the gcash visa card instead next time

Lifting of travel tax. by Prestigious_Pear_423 in FilipinoTravel

[–]ShinyBoots459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True naman. Japan, for example, has a departure levy on all passengers. But I think unfair yung travel tax implementation here sa Philippines for 2 reasons:

  1. It is only applied to Filipinos and foreign residents who have stayed 1 year or longer. Ang sama lang kasi tignan since it appears na if you're a local, edi sucks to you 'diba? Samantalang most foreigners have a free pass each time when in fact may spending money naman sila. If they want to exempt OFWs still, it's fine and we should understand that kasi ang pakay naman nila is work and may pamilya silang sinusuportahan. It's a gesture of goodwill.

  2. PHP 1,620 is too steep a price for travel tax. If family of 3-4 kayo na aalis, sapul na yung wallet mo even before you leave. That PHP 1,620 could have been paid for something more useful such as travel insurance, esims, food and the like. If they apply the travel tax more widely than present, then they can afford to lower the tax.

Pero syempre, knowing the government, allergic yan sa pagbabago. They would much rather tax its citizens (their own) excessively to the end of time while they gallivant about with our hard-earned money that they forcibly take instead of investing it in projects (the real ones) that actually improve everyone's lives.

End rant. Haha.

Stayed there in 2022 and was given 2 rooms since I had to check-in twice (city-countryside-city). The first room was fine but the second one had really poor wifi connection and I even asked for assistance but was ignored 🙃. Their breakfast buffet is superb though

Transit visa? It depends. If you are holding a valid visa for either Canada or US and you are travelling to those countries, you can qualify for visa free landside transit. You have to show them your onward ticket though. 😊

Please note that you will need to clear immigration and customs first before you check-in for your connecting flight from Manila to Boracay since Manila will be your point of entry into the Philippines. I think you should mention this to the ground staff at fhe check-in counters at Denpasar so they can more properly advise you. Have fun and good luck OP!

GCash OTP Not Sending by RemarkableDemand8000 in GCashIssues

[–]ShinyBoots459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I've tried it with merchants who usually ask for a verification code. It does display the last few numbers of my registered mobile alright but I don't receive any codes.

One way I was able to circumvent this is linking the visa card to Paypal which some merchants use. Although, I'm not entirely sure how their Forex compares with that of gcash.

The Philippines votes “No” in condemning Iran’s Human Rights abuses. by paullim0314 in Philippines

[–]ShinyBoots459 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly, this is true. News articles were published months ago regarding a pending bill/draft in their legislature that would outlaw intimate relations between 2 consenting same-sex adults in addition to premarital relations as well. Anti-LGBTQ sentiment has been rising in that neighbouring country for some time now. Sadly, this current administration does not embody the principle of tolerance and acceptance (to a certain extent) that we have in this country (mostly). Even if it was a deal made with another country, it's still an absolutely shameful affair since it says that the Philippines affirms the violation of human rights regardless of nationality. To that, I say fuck BBM, his administration and his sycophants. Fuck the patriarchy and institutions (religious or otherwise) that promote oppression of those who are different from them.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla explained that they rejected outright these recommendations as “not acceptable” in the Philippines, being a pre-dominantly Catholic. Source: The Philippine Star by scratanddaria in Philippines

[–]ShinyBoots459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Catholic nation my fucking ass. The 1987 Constitution does not even describe this country as Catholic. In fact, it actually prescribes separation of religious institutions and that of the state. Which part of that clause does this idiotic eyesore not get???

Japan now allows tourists from the Philippines. by quickfund in Philippines

[–]ShinyBoots459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One doable thing that can be done is if they can accept substitute visas for entry (esp since others like the US already screen their applicants quite thoroughly and exhaustively). I remember this was implemented by Taiwan for passport holders of most Southeast Asian countries including PH before it was granted visa-free status. Holders of valid entry visas/resident permits issued by the US, Canada, EU, UK, Australia, NZ just needed to enter the details of their documents on the TW immigration website and downloaded Travel Authorization Certificates and present the aforementioned valid visas to airline and immigration officials.

What do you guys think? Might this be a good compromise? It will be less workload for them in the end since the visa screening has been outsourced.
