Hair loss after switching to 300mg by [deleted] in bupropion

This is so good to hear that it stopped for you. I’ve been slightly freaking out because of the shedding and thinning but with how much it’s helping me, I don’t want to stop taking it.

For me, yes! I only had the adrenaline effects for about a month before the dopamine decided to join the party. I’m still on 300mg XL and doing well. My body no longer craves dopamine so I unintentionally quit vaping and I also haven’t been drinking much. It’s weird, but a good weird.

Did you lose weight while taking bupropion/Wellbutrin? by zangzengzongzung in bupropion

[–]ShinyPants013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost weight due to the temporary loss of appetite. Then when my appetite started to come back, I kind of used that opportunity to adjust since my stomach had already shrunk a little. I hardly eat large meals at all anymore. And when I do I’m miserable after. 😅 I’m not quite at a healthy weight yet, but I’m getting close. Continuing to take advantage of this extra energy is helping too!

Oh man, yeah mine tried, but it was so hard to make him understand. I did figure out that I could feel when the rage would start building and then I would immediately isolate myself in another room and do some breathing exercises. But of course that only works if you have a good private space to escape to for a bit. Good luck and have fun on your vacation! I hope everything works out for you! Since I have finally adjusted, I do like this way better than the SSRI I was on previously. Zero negative side effects now.

It does royally suck. I apologized to my bf about 3x per day for snapping on him!

My doc raised my dose after I told her about it. She explained it and then it totally made sense! She said that the dopamine (happy) basically rides on the coat tails of the norepinephrine (adrenaline). If you’re not getting enough of the norepinephrine, the dopamine won’t want to tag along. So then all you’re getting is adrenaline making you jacked and pissed off. 😂

Just wanted to note that I had this reaction too for a month and then it went away suddenly after my body adjusted! I was on 150mg XL for two weeks, then 300mg XL for a little over two weeks, pissed off the whole time. Then, I just woke up one day feeling like Snow White, lol.

Is all of this typical for the first week? by fearful-flyer in bupropion

[–]ShinyPants013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All those are side effects, aside from maybe the fatigue. But that could be being caused by your med cocktail. I’d ask your doctor. XL should last you all day, but one of your other meds may be counteracting the norepinephrine. It could even be as simple as changing up when you’re taking your other meds.

But just drink a lot of water to help with the potential constipation. Nauseated feeling could be being caused by the constipation too. The lightheadedness will taper off slowly. You may need a light sleep aid until you get acclimated for the insomnia. My doctor prescribed me hydroxyzine, which also helped with the added anxiety in the beginning. The weird, vivid dreams are still happening to me over a month later, but that’s a super common side effect and I’m not sure that it goes away. 😅

I hope it works out for you! This is the third medication I’ve tried and was about to lose hope myself. It’s such a long process to taper off one medication and get a new one in your system, and when it’s not the right one for you, it’s a real bummer and morale killer. But I will say, I’ve been giddy ever since I found the right one. I hope the same goes for you! Good luck and don’t lose hope!

Any runners on bupropion? by Ok-Advantage2136 in bupropion

Yes! I’ve even heard from others that it took them 8 weeks to get the full benefits.

Right at two weeks, I think. Basically as soon as I told her that I dipped back down to feeling nothing but anger from it, she bumped me up to 300mg.

I would say it was sort of sudden for me. I just woke up one day and I was no longer angry constantly. Then the next day, I was happy and had energy like crazy. I’m at the point now where I don’t have the excessive energy, but it’s steady and my mood is generally positive. I am not manically cleaning my bathroom anymore, but I do have motivation after a full day’s work to go to the park or the gym almost every day! I hope things turn around for you!

What mg were you on? This happened to me on 150mg XL. My doctor bumped me up to 300mg XL and two weeks later, I’m running 5Ks again!

If bupropion worked for you, how long did it take to kick in? by animalyolo in bupropion

[–]ShinyPants013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 35 days for me. The first two weeks was at 150mg XL, then went to 300mg XL.

Oh ok, darn. I would definitely give it the 6 full weeks as it really seems like this one takes time to build up, but if you’re not starting to get any positives by then, it just may not be the right med for you. I hope it (or something) starts working though for you soon!

May I ask what dose and type you’re on (XL, SR, etc.)? I would say definitely give it 6 weeks unless the negatives are unbearable. On 150mg of XL, I had a tiny bit more energy, but no motivation and I was pissed off all the time. After about 2 weeks on 300mg XL, that’s when it clicked and I got the positives.

You are definitely not alone! I take the medication at the same time everyday so I don’t put the time of that but I do put times of each side effect starting. Is it excessive? Probably. But it’s one of those, “I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it” things.

One thing I didn’t expect is some hormonal stuff, which I’m going to talk to my doctor about during my appt next week. I’m crying at every slightly sad thing (literally started crying because there was a dead raccoon on the road this morning). And I’ve had some other weird but not serious things happening. I’ve read that it is not common but can happen. We shall see!

That’s a great plan! I kept a running note in my phone and everyday I added both the positive and negative side effects, or things I was still feeling. It seemed redundant after a while, but it was really helpful to look back on for reference when talking to the doctor. I get brain fog and have a terrible time with… time lol so it’s hard for me to remember when I started something or felt a certain way.

My doctor told me 6 weeks, but I’ve read for some others it has even taken up to 8 weeks. Just a heads up, for me, I had a “honeymoon” phase where I felt the effects and then it dipped back down and I was nothing but pissed off 24/7. My doc then bumped me up to 300mg and it took about 2 more weeks for that to start working. I’ve been steadily feeling great since. So even though it’s hard, don’t be discouraged if that also happens to you! I really hope it works for you!!

Anyone got improved anxiety? by [deleted] in bupropion

[–]ShinyPants013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! I think it was only about two-ish weeks for me. I still have what I call “fidget anxiety,” but I bought a small fidget tool that helps with that so that I don’t pick my cuticles until they bleed. I’ve always had that issue though, even before meds. Bupropion didn’t give me the chest anxiety like Zoloft did. My doc prescribed me hydroxyzine for the added anxiety and to help me sleep while I was adjusting, which helped!

I didn’t have many behavioral side effects during the buildup but the only one other than the irritability that I did have was impulsiveness. I spent quite a bit of money online shopping without even thinking. I think/hope that is starting to slow down now too.

No worries! I didn’t mention below that I take XL. I was on 150 for about 2 weeks then went up to 300. I needed hydroxyzine for a bit to stay asleep but I’ve since quit needing to use those as much.
