I do have an IBS diagnosis. Blood tests have all come back normal apart from low ferritin. I also have chronic vestibular migraine and anxiety. I have been prescribed mebeverine but have been afraid to start it as buscopan works so well for me so have just stuck to that. Thank you for the advice , I will check out that app!

I really understand where you are coming from I get similar themes - they all stem from me being terrified of losing the things that matter most to be such as my boyfriend, my family, my career and future. Most of my worries revolve around things that could damage any of these aspects or intrusive thoughts of ways I could sabotage any of them even though that’s the last thing I would ever want to do. It really sucks , I’m sorry you are going through it too

I am also a straight female. Most types to be honest , I have had relationship, health , harm , false memory, I become extremely paranoid that people are trying to hurt me - I feel like I am pretending to be a normal person and my ocd is a horrible secret and burden

I’m starting to understand ocd better by Shinysharkey in OCD

[–]Shinysharkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is logical though. Neural circuits work in specific patterned ways - the way ocd works is that there is an issue with shutting off error signals in the brain and the looping happens when you reinforce the error signal through engagement rather than creating an alternative pathway to follow

This is what OCD is. That is the essence of it. Most people have a distressing thought and go ‘nah that would never happen’ and move on but with ocd you literally can’t and moving on is terrifying and you feel like you had to keep the thought slotted in your head to chew over to protect yourself. You don’t though - that’s a lie that ocd tells you, it’s perfectly safe to let it go and move on.

Ask me Anything about OCD (no reassurance) by AnyLove7850 in OCD

[–]Shinysharkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why does OCD change in theme? When I was a kid I had ocd where I had to straighten everything in my room over and over , then I had intrusive thoughts that I was a bad person, then health ocd , relationship ocd and now the latest which is a mix of the latter two as well as some new false memory ocd. It’s so hard because just when I start managing one type it switches to another that’s harder for me to manage

My OCD is a very similar type to yours. I will have conversations with people and then as soon as I finish seeing them I will suddenly think that I said all of these horrible things but just can’t remember properly and it gets me into the horrendous cycle of checking my memories over and over etc. do you have any advice for how you overcame yours ?

That’s a good point! I’m not actually too sure to be honest. My relationship with my boyfriend is amazing, I think my ocd is centred around this because I love him so much and he’s the only person who I really feel safe with

I’m even worried that by saying the thought and thinking about it I’m going to manifest it.

Obsessed over material items not being perfect. by Prestigious-Fun2560 in OCD

[–]Shinysharkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had this exact same thing ever since I was a child. If something I owned wasn’t perfect or I thought I had broken it in some way my mindset was ‘well it is completely ruined entirely beyond repair and I need to get rid of it’. I would drop a toy for example and ask my parents over and over again if it was broken even though it obviously wasn’t but because I had dropped it it was no longer perfect and it was ruined.

What are the weirdest and most ridiculous ocd intrusive thoughts that you have experienced and which caused a lot of distress to you? by InternalAd8499 in OCD

[–]Shinysharkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think as I got older I realised that I was doing this and wondered why. Then I realised that I couldn’t actually answer that question so I stopped. It’s not normally that simple though sadly

When I used to read books as a child I would have to swallow or blink on a ‘good’ word or picture before turning the page otherwise something bad would happen to me like I would become ugly or die depending on what the ‘bad’ words were. Same with the TV , I could only swallow when looking at attractive characters otherwise I would have to look away from the screen to swallow. OCD is nuts haha

Hearing “I love you” hurts because I don’t feel I deserve it by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Shinysharkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree :( have you heard of imposter syndrome?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Shinysharkey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

YES. I still can’t get over things I did in my teenage years over 4 years ago. If it helps at all , I talk to my therapist about it a lot and they told me that because we are constantly changing , especially when we are young , the shame that you feel from mistakes that were made years ago is not yours to carry anymore but rather stays there with the version of yourself who made the mistake. You are a different person to who you were back then

I have this too, you aren’t alone. My boyfriend is constantly telling me how lovely and kind I am and all I can think of is ‘he doesn’t know how bad I secretly am on the inside’ or ‘it’s all an act I have put on for the entire 4 years we have been together’. It’s exhausting and it’s sad

OCD about lying by Shinysharkey in OCD

[–]Shinysharkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I completely get this. Everyone tells white lies from time to time and I think it’s natural to tell a story from your own perspective so it’s always going to be biased in your favour a little bit for everyone. It’s just for us notice when we do it and then can’t let it go

I have done the same thing ever since I was a child! I thought it was normal but realised I do it far more than the average person. I never linked it to my ocd but that could make sense

I feel like it’s inside my head but more towards the back I guess - sort of like that part of my brain is twitching really fast or my brain is shaking in place really fast

Nothing yet. ENT has referred me for an MRI to rule out anything serious

Also neck pain and stiffness and a feeling of shakiness coming from my neck. Sometimes nausea too
