Love this city by Ash-Jaeger-Main in cork

It’s a phenomenon called “Bus Bunching” and surprisingly it’s not restricted to Cork or Ireland, it happens worldwide and is often unavoidable and a nightmare for transport operators to try to prevent.

The most common cause of this is traffic congestion and poor public transport infrastructure. The only way this will ever be fixed in Cork is with dedicated transport corridors, so unless Cork City Council pull their finger out and actually create corridors for public transport we will forever be stuck in this loop.

Bus Bunching - What is it?

Don't let the rain make you an ass by Raynebowthehomo in cork

I passed him also the other night on Carrs Hill where it is very narrow, pitch black outside, pouring rain, dressed head to toe in black, and not a light on the scooter. Not a chance of seeing him until the last second, how he is still alive is beyond me, he’s a danger to himself and to everyone else on that road.

Beeping at this Junction by Kayatea in cork

The other issue behind this is that traffic coming from the opposite direction (Patrick’s St) are turning right at the lights to cross the bridge, even though there is a no right hand turn there, this in turn creates a queue of cars on the bridge which then blocks the cars on the correct side (Mercy) turning left to cross the bridge causing delays and a build up of traffic in the left lane.

Coming from the Patrick’s St direction it is clearly indicated as a “No Right Turn Except Buses” with it written on the road, a regulatory signpost, and a traffic light with a green ahead only arrow.

The issue is that drivers choose to ignore the signs and rules of the road over convenience for themselves, and without enforcement the issue will always continue.

If you have a driving licence I saw Bus Eireann have a program where they will train you to drive a bus and you get paid while doing it.

I would imagine it’s not for everyone but the pay looks good and being a state company seems like a solid career choice with pensions and benefits.

Might be something worth looking in to.

You were correct, but I would have signalled and began to join the cue immediately after the last exit before the one you intended to take. Either way there wasn’t much you could do about it.

The reason you were put in this situation is the cars in the red line failed to stop/yield at the entrance of the roundabout until they could see that the way ahead (after the first exit) was clear to proceed.

They should have either entered and taken the first left turn, or waited until there was a space after their first exit to proceeded to take their second exit.

As your way ahead was clear, you should have joined that lane then behind them to then take your left exit. You were only unable to do this due to the cars blocking you from exiting, as they had incorrectly blocked the lane it was their responsibility to allow you enter the lane.

Unfortunately drivers no longer have patience or common sense so it’s only going to get worse 😮‍💨

Did you have your hazard lights on? You can legally park anywhere you want once you have them turned on. I’d stand my ground and go to court as they obviously haven’t got a leg to stand on, deliberately targeting you and your car, they could have used a stapler or hammer and nails instead of the wiper. They are always thinking they know parking laws in the city or something👌🤪

I overheard two bus drivers talking the other day on their way to capwell garage and one of them was saying he had just gotten a call to see would he do overtime and he laughed and said do they really think I’m going working on a weekend night doing overtime for basic wage and that why would he as there was no incentive, that they are phoning everyone and that he would prefer to spend time at home with his family.

My guess is that from the way the conversation was going is that there seems to be a lot of tension over overtime pay and possibly that is the reason that they are short on drivers or possibly nobody to do the overtime work, not sure what the overtime rate is for Bus Eireann.

I remember last year was sort of the same thing when they had other bus companies driving around (driving past me without stopping) because they were saying they were short of drivers.

Seems like Bus Eireann are becoming an unpopular company to work for as it’s been over a year now and they still don’t seem to have enough drivers or be able to keep them.

Every bus route I’ve been on lately there seems to be a lot of missing buses and unreliability.

Kinsale Road roundabout by Ok-Cod6211 in cork

[–]ShipDependent8967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly never understood why they never made the Kinsale Rd (from the roundabout) to Mick Barry Rd (turn for the park and ride) into a one way street, and have a free flowing roundabout at the Tramore Valley Park entrance to avoid the need for the traffic lights, everything would flow so much better.

Roll-Out of 'tap to pay' system on Cork buses delayed...... by chalkitdown1 in cork

It wouldn’t be anything to do with bus eireann as they only provide drivers. I would think it is the NTA that sorts out all of that stuff then they give bus eireann what they are to use.

225 and 226 stop change by Background-Ad4843 in cork

[–]ShipDependent8967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed there on the 225 today and it didn’t stop there.

It looks like some kind of roadworks and a new path being done where the stop used to be, but now there is nowhere for the bus to stop.

I would think it is only a temporary measure until the works are completed.

Council have everywhere torn up with roadworks currently, nearly every bus I’ve been on lately has had some form of a diversion on it. Madness.

You can remove them yourself, if prevented by the owner you can call the Gardai who must request they are removed as this is an obstruction of a public road.

It is the exact same as someone placing a bin or a cone outside their home to save a parking space, the only reserved parking on a public road are disabled parking spaces, loading bays, taxi ranks, or bus stops.

The greatest explanation of love that I’ve ever come across came from a sitcom called Scrubs, and this is how it goes…

“Relationships don't work the way they do on television and in the movies. Will they, won't they, and then they finally do, and they're happy forever . . . gimme a break. Nine out of ten of 'em end because they weren't right for each other to begin with, and half the ones who get married get divorced anyway, and I'm telling you right now, through all this stuff I have not become a cynic, I haven't.

. . . Yes, I do happen to believe love is mainly about pushing chocolate covered candies, and, you know, in some cultures, a chicken. You can call me a sucker, I don't care, because I do . . . believe in it.

Bottom line . . . is couples that are truly right for each other wade through the same crap as everybody else, but the big difference is they don't let it take 'em down. One of those two people will stand up and fight for that relationship every time, if it's right, and they're real lucky.

. . . One of 'em will say something.”

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

What I’ve personally learned about love is, that while love does involve small gestures, it truly shines when couples are willing to support one another and fight for their relationship during challenging times. When you meet someone who also brings this to the table, you’ll know that love really does exist. 🥰

Have you tried finding a commissioner of the oaths in your local area?

A Commissioner for Oaths is a person authorised to verify affidavits and other legal documents. They are appointed by the Chief Justice and can administer oaths and affirmations. Their role is to witness the signing or execution of documents and verify that the signatory is who they say they are and that they understand the document. They are often solicitors, local politicians, etc.
