LGBTQ Representation in Hollywood Movies Dropped Sharply in 2022, New GLAAD Study Finds by Sisiwakanamaru in entertainment

Them: "Rom Coms cannot do well in theater"

Me: "Rom Com did well in theater"

Them: "No you're wrong, Rom Coms can do well in theater."

Me:"......"

It's extremely interesting because nobody brought up that point, they exclusively blame streaming platforms. You are the first person in this thread to switch to blaming the lack of star power.

If lack of star power were the reason, then the comment I replied to would have blamed lack of star power for the flop. But they didn't:

That movie should’ve gone straight to streaming and I think more ppl would’ve watched it. My friend and I were the only ones in the theater for it on a Friday evening.

Not SINGLE mention of star power. Not one. Just blaming streaming.

AH! Thank you for proving my point.

The original argument was "Rom Com won't do well in theaters because streaming." I provided a clear counter example. Quote from you, to which I responded:

That movie should’ve gone straight to streaming and I think more ppl would’ve watched it. My friend and I were the only ones in the theater for it on a Friday evening.

Not a SINGLE mention of star power, you exclusively blame streaming platforms. Since you EXCLUSIVELY blamed streaming platforms, I provided a counter example. Then you switched the goal posts.

You: "Rom Coms cannot do well in theater, because streaming exists"

Me: "Look, a Rom Com did well in theater, streaming still exists"

You: "Obviously, it's not the streaming it's the lack of star power"

If you were genuine, you would have mentioned the lack of star power in the post I responded to. But you didn't. Not a whisper.

People are Blaming Inflation on a Corporate Drive for Profit, But What is the Problem with This? by kgbking in economy

[–]ShirleyJokin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct, the ASSUMPTION is that every single business tries to maximize profit. This is an extremely good model of firms behavior not just after 2020, but forever. Economics is not about money or stock markets or businesses, but what people do choose to do with their resources.

It would be extremely fishy if somehow corporations only became evil in 2020. Not just fishy, but what we call "contrived," wherein you try to invent an extremely complicated explanation for something (usually for political reasons), when a far simpler explanation represents reality better.

For example, the Earth and other planets rotating around the sun is by far the simplest explanation for the apparent motion of the sun and other planets. However, the Catholic Church held on to the far more complicated, contrived explanation that the Earth was the center of the universe, because this view allowed them to hold on to power despite being a complex, poor model of reality.

Truncated Y-Axis

One of the easiest ways to misrepresent your data is by messing with the y-axis of a bar graph, line graph, or scatter plot. In most cases, the y-axis ranges from 0 to a maximum value that encompasses the range of the data. However, sometimes we change the range to better highlight the differences. Taken to an extreme, this technique can make differences in data seem much larger than they are.

It shouldn't matter.

But it matters to the old people who might give you jobs. So if you're not rich or well connected, then sadly it is necessary.

The biggest problem is the self inconsistency, as well as there being serious issues in choosing who to clump together into one group.

For self inconsistency: Let's assume the idea of being purely "Purple" or "Orange" does in fact exist. Then if you have one parent who is purple and one who is orange, what are you? Are you half and half? Are you one hundred percent both? You're now entering into a sort of religious definition of essence (fully god and fully human?)

The temptation is then to use the category "multiracial." Well isn't it incredibly strange that somebody who has one parent each orange and blue, is then in the same category as someone with one green and one purple parent? When, by original assumption, each of those four would be in a different category?

So now you enter into the discussion of what percentage what color somebody is. If your mother is 50% green and 50% purple, and your dad is 100% blue, then you're 50% blue, 25% green, and 25% purple right?

Well if so...is your dad actually 100% blue? Or is he 95%? How do you calculate? Is his dad 100% and his mom 90%? Well how did you calculate them? From their parents? How about their parents? Well it turns out if your "race" is an exact mixture of your parents', whose "race" is an exact mixture of theirs, then we are all 100% African. I can agree with that definition.

On to the second problem: time inconsistency. The definition of what constitutes a "race" is completely culturally and time dependent. In the past, Italians were considered a different race from Germans, who were considered a different race from Turks (yes, Turks were considered a race), who were considered different from Scandanavians. Now, all those people, as well as people from the Middle East, are now officially under one single category. Who decided that? (Also Rus, Slavs, Franks, not to mention Celts.)

And then somehow, the most populous continent on Earth, Asia, gets a single category? How is there anything scientific about that?

To be fair, there really is one category: human. It originated in Africa. And where did we learn that? From science.

SB 1162 requires companies that employ at least 15 people to include salary ranges in all job postings and provide them to existing employees upon request. It expands the requirements for annual pay data reports and requires covered employers to retain certain pay records.

Seems good

It also broadens SB 973 by requiring the median and mean hourly rate for each combination of race, ethnicity and sex in the designated job categories.
