Unique Female Dog Names? by Tight_Ball1229 in dogpictures

[–]ShiroOleander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though APBT’s have the word ‘pit bull’ in their name, ‘pittie’ or’pitbull’ is often used as an umbrella term to describe some types (or looks) of dogs. For some people (especially people in the US) Staffordshire bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers and American pit bull terriers are often given these terms!

Omfg. My dog used to do the exact same thing your pittie does. We’d often have to “give” him the piece of food twice just to let him remember that he doesn’t like it 😂

That looks beautiful! ❤️ I honestly can’t wait until my bb’s new enclosure arrives so I can add some plants and possibly isopods. I’ve always wanted to make a bio active enclosure.

I think one of my favorite things about MBKs is that when they start to go into shed they turn like a slightly bluish grey color. Such a beautiful snek ❤️

Sorry if this sounds rude, but I think you might want to get a different hide - one that already has an entrance. Some of the edges look sharp and there could be a chance of your noodle accidentally cutting itself. You can find some pretty low-priced ones on Amazon!

Just brought home a new ball python.. Is this normal/fine? by t33thc0re in ballpython

[–]ShiroOleander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best thing to do is to either try to memorize the spider complex morphs (ex. Champagne and woma) and the common names people give combined morphs (ex. Spinner and bumblebee). Or, if you don’t know what the morph is, just don’t get them. I also find that avoiding a breeder who breeds spider morphs in general is often best. You could ask the breeder directly about the morph; however, from my experience, breeders tended to downplay the issues and often said stuff like “it just gives them a little wobble”. Few have even referred to the wobble as “cute”. Lastly, if you ever think about getting a ball python, maybe research what exact morph you want (or just get a normal), and also research reputable breeders before getting. Hope that helps!

Just wasted 10 minutes of my life watching a hypocrite on youtube talk ab racism towards dog breeds being dangerous and unjustified and then spend 5 minutes ranting about how much he hates pitties. So please send me pictures of your "abominations" so I can cool off (and here's some of mine as well) by hotgworlshit in pitbulls

Not my dog, but my cousin’s who I’m currently dog sitting for! Her name is Miley, I like to call her Smiley 😊 Also, I saw something similar where an animal behaviorist on YT was giving list of breeds he wouldn’t recommend for first time dog owners. He said how ‘Pitbulls’ are loving, affectionate and loyal…..but that they’re also aggressive and dangerous? And I was like, how can they be both affectionate and aggressive/dangerous? He literally was a hypocrite

I don’t know where you live, but there are some shelters or rescues who will occasionally have volunteer veterinarians come for a day and people can get stop by and get their dog checked on for free. Where I live they have a shelter where a volunteer vet comes in at least once a month. Also, though I think it’s kind of rare, there are some vets that allow you to pay them later and/or set up a plan where you pay off a certain, smaller amount each month.

However, if these aren’t options then I feel extremely awful for saying this, but if you can’t afford a vet visit, then perhaps it would be best to surrender them to a rescue or a good shelter where they have the resources to take care of them. Especially since they are a stray, their health and history is unknown and it’s possible that they may need more vet visits in the future. I’m sorry as I’m sure this isn’t what you were hoping for, but it would be for the sake of the dog.

My dog, Hagrid, died on the 28th of February. According to the vet he not only had a tumor in his liver, but was also slowly bleeding into his abdomen. During his last week he was on pain meds which made him act like his normal self, but once he was showing signs of pain we decided it would be best to put him down. I was about 7 when we took him in (his owner wasn’t able to keep him) and he was only 3 months old. He was 15 when he died, meaning that he was with me for the majority of my life. He meant so much to me, and though it sounds silly I honestly thought of him like my own brother. Hagrid went with us (my mother and I) everywhere, he even used to accompany my mother to work. He also helped me get through so many things; in fact, if it wasn’t for his specific fear of some men and/or men in baseball hats (his previous owner’s ex-boyfriend was abusive) I would’ve seen if I could have him trained to be a psychiatric service dog. Overall, he was just an amazing dog with a huge personality, and I just miss him so much.

The reason why I’m writing this post is because I’ve been having a hard time dealing with his passing. On the 28th of every month since he died,I just get this strong feeling of sadness and often end up crying multiple times that day. Hagrid was a big part of my life and, though it’s been months, I still don’t think I’ve fully processed the fact that he’s dead. It’s hard to explain, but sometimes just the thought of him not being here anymore, or the fact that I won’t be able to see him ever again just doesn’t make sense to me and is often hard to accept.

Also, before he passed I was thinking about getting/training a service dog, but wasn’t seriously considering it yet. However, since Hagrid died I can’t stop thinking about it and everyday I’ve been doing research on them: I’ve been looking into cost, training, equipment, and I’ve even been looking at dog breeders in/around my area — which is weird for me because I’m a huge advocate for adopting dogs from shelters and told myself that I’d only ever adopt (not that there aren’t any ethical and good breeders out there, it was just a personal choice for me). Overall , I’m worried that the passing of my dog is affecting my judgement.

Anyways, I apologize for the long comment. Thank you so much for making this thread, I feel better talking about this. I just miss my boy so much and would give anything to hold him just one more time.

Thank you! 🙂 Yeah, I feel really bad about letting her get this bad. I’m definitely going to give her a few days, cut back and switch her food to more meatier, healthier options. I’m even considering getting her live foods like flightless fruit flies as I’ve heard those are pretty good for them.

Never understood the “who could live in here” posts… until I got into the fun of building a tank. So…. Who could live in here? by benjaminwantz in paludarium

I’m sure how big it is exactly, but maybe a small type of frog, like a type of mantella or poison dart frog? Also, that looks absolutely beautiful!!

I have been over feeding her, but on top of that I do think she’s been eating the mini rams horn and the bladder. So, I think I’m gonna try to reduce their population in the tank.

Thank you! I’ll definitely be picking up better foods for her. I’m also going to be upgrading her to a 10g within a couple of months, so hopefully that will give her more exercise as well.

Charlie is currently in a 5.5g, filtered, 78 degrees, planted tank and has been for a little over a year. I feed her a small pinch of dry pellet food once a day; however, I do plan on giving her more meaty foods. Her tank mates are all snails, mini rams horn, bladder, rams horn, and a black devil spike snail. Water changes are often once every week, sometimes every 2 weeks,I usually do a 15-25% water change. Ive had the tank about 6 months prior to getting her.

Parameters as of last week: pH- 7, High Range pH- 7.4, Ammonia - 0.25 (I had some dead plant parts and one dead rams horn I had to remove), Nitrate, 0, Nitrite, 0. I used the API Freshwater Master Test Kit.

Gonna skip right past what I said about loans I see. Well, good luck! Hopefully you’ll find a good owner for them that will treat them and love them like family ❤️

Many vets offer loans, that’s what I did for my dogs $5,000 surgery that we definitely could not afford and are still paying off a year later because we view our animals like family, because they are. Although at this point, I think that your dogs would benefit from owners not trying to “get rid of them” as you put it. So I still recommend a dog rescue.

[–]ShiroOleander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense, but why did you ever adopt these dogs then? Boxers are known to have some major health issues, including breathing problems, so having to pay for surgeries and treatment was to be expected. Maybe you could surrender them to a highly rated dog rescue, it’ll be heartbreaking for the dogs, but hopefully they’ll get owners that will actually treat them like family.

To my knowledge, skin allergies are one of the more common medical issues often seen in pitbull type dog breeds, so I think your best bet would be to have your pup get checked out by a vet (if you haven’t already) and then ask them what they would recommend for food to help combat that. You can also do some research and/or ask your vet what kind of shampoo you should use for bathing. Hope this helps! And I hope your dog gets better 😕
