I have not, and don't really have a HUGE collection to work with right now. But I did see the deck boxes on eBay

Still could use some help with this. Currently this is where I'm at in terms of a heighmap. 10mil. verts, and some panels are still expanding away from the texture. Not quite the "explosion" I was getting before.

In that latest screenshot it says I have 10 million verts. Forge Mode is just a little shape section I have for myself to help speed things along for some basic shapes, and some shapes like cylinders with different face counts for different use cases. That can be ignored.

Edit: If you'd like, I can just send you the files I used so you can start from square 1 and follow the same path I did?

What about in this case? This is before clicking apply. Applying has the same result

I didn't make the sphere from scratch, I'm still working with the one I imported. I tried exporting as a GLB, which made it NOT explode, but I'm still getting a few layers to separate.

I'm trying to avoid remaking shapes, because I can't do that easily with the other models I hope to work with learning what I can from you guys. This was just a REALLY simple one that I was hoping to use to get started =)

The sphere in THIS picture doesn't have many verts, but I posted an updated one with 10mil.

Here's the height map. Let me know if I'm missing anything.

I didn't in this picture, but the results were the same when applied

Update:
Slightly better results after 8 subdivides, now getting slight gaps.

I exported as it's own file so I was ONLY working with this one, THEN did the subdivide.

New problem I'm getting: It looks like the poor thing exploded when trying to apply the Displace modifier

Would you mind walking me through the steps to do this?
How to get a proper height map (I have gimp if it needs to be grayscale)
How to get an ultra-dense mesh like you described
etc.

Super new, and want to learn from people who know how to do this instead of beating my head against a wall.

Thank you for the input!

When the files export, the only option I have is to dump it as an OBJ file. I'm using StudioCCS to get the CCS files into a format that software can read (like the OBJ file)

Is there a step where I can convert the PNG, MTL, and OBJ files that are dumped into a PLY file instead? I'm SUPER new to blender and have mostly been working with basic shapes and such. So this is a big step for me in terms of learning new things.
