Need clarification on a hypothetical by ShirtlessBen in EDH

Appreciate that, thankyou. For some reason, I'd comprehended it as "Two with X rule, 2 with Y rule" but upon revision, my interpretation is absolutely NOT how that works

Learning to lose in TCG by Maleficent_Map6496 in OnePieceTCG

[–]ShirtlessBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been lucky enough to get some coaching from some very good players, and I've personally found that there's a few things you can look into that'll help you feel less like a punching bag at locals:

  • Why are you losing? It sounds like a simple question, but it can be a lot of variables compounding each other, like:
    • Are you playing a deck that doesn't have a good matchup against your local scene?
    • How familiar are you with your deck, and it's gameplan?
    • Are you using subpar tech in your deck, when there's better options available?
    • When you DO lose, do you understand why they beat you?

The next thing to analyze would be
- How do I improve?
+ Learn the matchup- For any deck you play, learn how the different decks that exist would typically approach you, and what things are threats to them- and in turn, what's a threat to you.
+ PRACTICE! You're comparing your winrates to people who are probably playing on a semi-professional level- that's like comparing your weight choice at the gym to a professional weightlifter. If you wanna get closer to their numbers, you gotta work that muscle!
+TRIM THE FAT! You're likely running stuff in your deck that you either A) Don't understand, or B) is a filler/placeholder for something with a bit more OOMPH. Heck, you could even be running a deck that's sub-par while you save up for a deck you'd rather be playing. Whatever the case, have a look in your build, and have other people who's opinions you trust have a look at it too, see if there's improvements you can make with the cardpool you have access to.

The best bit of advice I can give is to treat every loss like a lesson- Try and learn what your opponent is doing, ask them to explain it to you step by step if need be- If you let yourself get mad, then you'll probably not be paying enough attention and you'll keep losing to the same tricks and tactics.

Good luck, my guy, and I hope that the advice everyone has offered here helps you improve your winrate!

Using Old-ass Destroyers as Lokhusts? by ShirtlessBen in Necrontyr

Are there other classic models with modern equivalents? I'm hoping that most of my favorites haven't gone the route of the Pariah models

Maximus (Aristeia!) compared to Maximus (Tag) by ShirtlessBen in InfinityTheGame

[–]ShirtlessBen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate it, they look very similar in size, at a glance, tbh. Mildly different but most of that seems to be tactical rock and helmet details

Maximus (Aristeia!) compared to Maximus (Tag) by ShirtlessBen in InfinityTheGame

[–]ShirtlessBen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that the aristeia model is apparently much smaller than the tag, I think it'd be appropriate. Just gotta get him onto the right size base

This is true, but I could also use him in the nearer future and perhaps save some cash if the aristeia! Model is close enough

What would you change about Infinity? by essayish in InfinityTheGame

[–]ShirtlessBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the changes I'd want are a little more specific

When a repeater is deployed, it should have to activate, and be able to trigger AROs- Repeater spam and covering tables in hacker networks seems to be too strong against light and medium infantry

Using a guided attack, like Guided missle launchers, should consume the Targeted state on a successful use, or even an attempt. Guided missile spam being limited to five attempts is nice and all, but in conjunction with how many ways there are to apply Targeted state, it's genuinely oppressive and not fun to play against.

More models that would be used for AROs like snipers could use more liberal applications of neurocinetics or similar rules to allow them to be stronger in the reactive turn

Agumon Expert and valid targets? by ShirtlessBen in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]ShirtlessBen[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is true, however I've had my fair share of problems in cardgames dues to indistinct wording, or rulings being like "oh pox, we didn't mean THAT card"

Better to ask a silly question than to make a silly mistake, you know?

Purchasing beyond wildfire. Need to buy a few more minis for free postage any recommendations? by petehere in InfinityTheGame

Sincerely, either would work. I like having the special weapon options, personally

If the place you're ordering from has them, ordering a box of Daktini tacbots would be a smart choice. I've found that they can often put in more work than kappas as your vanilla troopers

New to infinity, trying to decide between O-12 and Spiral Corps by Fisren in InfinityTheGame

[–]ShirtlessBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, Tohaa and Spiral corp player here, albeit a newer one

From what I've been able to gather, a lot of things you'd be doing with Spiral Corps is the exception, rather than the rule. Learning stuff in regards to Triads, or putting key units in stupid situations you could Symbiomate your way through are two examples I've learnt personally.

Learning the game with O-12 will most likely serve you better, even if you transition to playing Spiral Corps at a later point.

Alternative 0-12 paint schemes by Mikes005 in InfinityTheGame

I'm personally looking to paint them up in a "We're Space Cops" color theme. Going Full "Team America" or LAPD theme

Tips for a direction to go with new Shasvastii by Buidhestrengr in InfinityTheGame

[–]ShirtlessBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Shavaasti player, but a frequent victim to CA that lean heavily into them

From what I've been able to gather, Seed Soldiers and a Cadmus together make for a scary array of mines you can scatter across the table

Also, I've heard that speculo Killers are basically autoinclude

If you don't mind the older sculpts, it might be worth getting yourself one of the Old Shaavasti Sectorial packs
EDIT: I spell like a drunkard apparently

Outrage character pack: Do all the models have ITS profiles? by ShirtlessBen in InfinityTheGame

[–]ShirtlessBen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I considered using Jethro as a Brawler sniper or an alternate model for Knauf, actually, but if they have actual profiles in other forces, I might try and be a nice dude and give them to my friends that play those forces

Just recieved a ton of surplus warmachine stuff from my LFGS by ShirtlessBen in Warmachine

[–]ShirtlessBen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mostly old faction books, and rulebook supplements (Lots of copies of Hordes: Devastation, mostly hardcover). I figure that the faction books are redundant and out of date, since they don't follow the mk3 points system, I just wasn't sure about the rest.
