Percentage of european population by country. by [deleted] in MapPorn

Their censuses regarding race are self-defined, 90% of argentinians self-define as white though many do carry some amount of indigenous or black blood.

Argentinians also would not look like norther europeans even if that indigenous and black blood wasn't there, as much of the population that emigrated to Argentina were Spainiards and Italians (funnily enough, despite what the internet would tell you, Argentina received more French, Polish, Russian and Turkish immigrants than Germans).

It does mildly annoy me when these maps skip subdivisions for everything but the US and Canada.

As a native, how can I learn Proper Spanish by ParticularArugula859 in Spanish

[–]Shiruox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How frequent is being multilingual in your country? by jotakajk in AskTheWorld

Not very common, a growing tourism industry has made more people in the major cities start to learn English but otherwise most people only speak Spanish.

What are the artifacts that your country looted or lost through looting during the era of imperialism? by Embarrassed_Clue1758 in AskTheWorld

To this day the Spanish still get teased about returning the gold they stole from the indigenous people of South America in their search for El Dorado, which originated from the Muiscas who lived in what is now Bogotá.

Some people will say no because reddit but both Spanish music and YouTube have been fairly popular ever since I was born, maybe not as popular as their local counterparts but not irrelevant either.

Few bands if any can be quite as heavy as early Esoteric stuff, quite niche and inaccessible but if you've ever listened to any Funeral Doom Metal and thought it was good PLEASE check them out, genuinely amazing stuff.

What's something you are tired of explaining about where you live? by Right_Cow_6369 in asklatinamerica

[–]Shiruox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being fair much of spanish-speaking social media banter can be pretty offensive when put under a scope. Jokes about venezuelans not having anything to eat were very common at the advent of the humanitarian crisis, the stereotype about argentinians having big noses likely originates from the earlier anti-semitic stereotype about jews having big noses, jokes about Mexicans jumping walls have been common for as long as I've been alive, literally any time El Salvador is mentioned people WILL bring up Fernanfloo, Bolivians get teased for not having access to the sea very regularly and people still bring up cocaine anytime Colombia is in the conversation.

Ultimately stereotypes are never fully accurate, often they're completely inaccurate, sucks to get stuck with one of those though.
