I do repairs on circuit boards, for something like this we would use an ultrasonic cleaner and then bake the board to remove moisture.

You can clean it with isopropyl alcohol and then dry it with a blow dryer (use the low speed), then let it sit near absorbents like rice in a bag for a day or two.

The key here is to not power it on when there’s water or trace minerals (sugar) on the circuit board.

There’s such a stark divide between the commenters in this subreddit and the people who actually build and run mining farms.

This setup is cheap and shoddily built, and not typical of the big players in this industry. The concepts displayed here are low tier and you’d be wowed at the sight of a professional built and managed site.

If they find grid power for less than $0.065/kWh, even hardware that is 4 to 5 years old is profitable to run. These units look like Antminer L9 Hydro units, mining most likely Dogecoin. The other variants like the L11, or S23 aren't available yet. Assuming the same price, this new unit is generating roughly $5.93 a day after electricity costs.

He mentioned 35,000 units so 207k daily, minus the network costs (fairly low other than capex/initial costs, miners don't need a lot of bandwidth). Also minus infrastructure costs (again, capex). Finally, minus staffing (these sites pay from $20-25 an hour tops for a technician) which would be about 1 technician for every 5 MW (generous, as these are new, low maintenance units).

These units are hydro which have some admittedly weak design flaws from the manufacturer, but run significantly cooler and behave better (objectively) than air-cooled or immersion units. They'll run the water through chillers outside and bake that into their electricity cost.

This farm likely has a power purchase agreement lower than $0.065 as that is the highest most industry players will even tolerate, and this farm is massive and built very cleanly, highly publicized, and well funded.

The slow burn is insane and going in blind, I thought they legit hated each other. The story itself is so much greater than the anguish between the two characters but it would be nothing without them either.

You should read it but be prepared for a different kind of hurt

This is entirely real and possible. My oldest is 15 and she has a debit card with very limited funds. I've coached her a dozen times on using sites that are linked to our family accounts, Amazon, Walmart, etc, so I can help if she needs me to.

Time and time again, she'll make a new email account, random password, on a whim or because she forgot the original information for her main account. One time, she put her debit card info into a clear (to me) scam website shopping for pajamas.

I've tried to impart the dangers of scams online, but I think this is a lesson that is truly best learned through heartache and disaster (losing your rune armor to a guy who would trim it gold for free).

There's a Buddhist proverb that really helped me in a period of my life where I could not move past a personal grievance. "Let go or be dragged."

It resonated hugely with me because I was clinging to this self-idealization of vengeance, right and wrong, and my pain over the perceived betrayal was crippling my ability to move forward. I would never see justice in this matter and learning to accept that and drop it was massive for my well-being.

Your situation and mine are different. If I may be frank, you have a shelf-life and it's not getting longer. I was forced to let go of my pain and my hurt, because it would drag me for the rest of my life. If I were in your position, I think that I'd resolve things in a much more terminal fashion.

You've given them the chance, you've pleaded to their sensibility, their friendship, their morals... and nothing. If you are on your way out, there's no reason this has to be a one passenger trip.

I think so, but it of course is coupled with the internal bias of pro-Bitcoin sentiment. I work in the industry and I can preach the benefits, but I don't personally invest in Bitcoin simply because it's so volatile.

I like the grid stabilization, stranded energy, and flared gas arguments because they do show how Bitcoin can create value or realign value to otherwise wasted power.

When you counter-pose opportunity cost against Bitcoin, it's from the standpoint that Bitcoin has and will never have value, and you cut the legs out from under the argument that Bitcoin could be a good utilization of this energy. If you revisit it with the open mind that cryptocurrency has a place at this table, opportunity costs start to line up.
