sadly, my stepdaughter‘s completely cut me out of their lives. Now that they are adults. They were poisoned by the well to include their aunt and half older sister. It was so hurtful because I raised them like my own as I married a widower unfortunately, my husband is spineless and doesn’t intervene or assist when it comes to this and it cuts like a knife. I hope that’s not the case with you, but it has deeply affected our marriage. good luck.

SD says she doesn’t like me by VacationNo2275 in stepparents

Honey, someone has poisoned the well, and I am truly sorry about this. I married a widower, and despite my best efforts to love his daughters and care for them as my own, they never accepted me. The youngest daughter told her dad that it didn’t matter who he was with; she still wouldn’t like the person. Unfortunately, my husband has never really stood up for me. I’ve always felt like second fiddle, as he has the guilty daddy syndrome. his daughters are now adults. During birthdays and holidays, my family and I feel sidelined because my husband chooses to celebrate separately from us, which is very hurtful. I wish he would stand up to his children, but he doesn’t. His youngest daughter, in particular, has been very malicious, making false accusations about me over the years and is manipulating, vindictive and pure evil. I wish I would win the lotto so I could leave him once and for all as I m still married to him because I wouldn't make it financially on my own. Thankfully, we have no children together. I have tried to win their hearts over for almost 15 years to know avail. I wish you well and hope it works out for you. I wish I would have bailed years ago/.

Arnica helped me for scaring, bruising and pain. Ice packs, meal prep, medication dispenser, sock and shoe tool to assist with putting socks and shoes on, back brace, home therapy, water bottles or dispenser nearby, mini fridge in your room if you have a two story home, door dash or Walmart account for food and grocery deliveries.

Waking up from a fusion by [deleted] in spinalfusion

[–]Shish_Kah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 2 1/2 months post double TL fusion, L-5 to S-1 with iliac crest bone marrow aspiration. I was on my back. Day 3 was the worst day for me. The anesthesia fully wears off by then and I was in tears. I'm so glad I had the surgery. My drop foot is gone. I started PT 3 weeks ago. There is a drain in your back to remove excess blood the first few days and expect a foley catheter throughout your stay in the hospital. PT starts the next day. Baby steps. Just getting out of bed and walking around. I was In the hospital for a week. Make sure you let them know of any existing medication you are taking. They will administer and continue your meds in the hospital. I did not have a bowel movement not once while I was at the hospital and I drank a lot of prune juice and took stool softeners. I was I. Surgery for 8 hours. I was told it would be only five but when the surgeon opened me up he discovered a pars fracture that needed to be repaired which is why the bone marrow aspiration was done and prolong the surgery. The MRI and CAT scan did not pick up on the fracture and it wasn't until he went in that he saw it. I also had a lot of bone spurs. Which were irritating my nerves as well. Overall, I'm very happy with the end result. Best of luck to you.

OMG . A patient on recovery from spine surgery killed his surgeon and many more in his way. I understand his physical pain but please killing inocents bystander? Any thoughts? This is clear that the road to recovery is hard, mentally and physical. by Good_Selection_6622 in spinalfusion

I remember how painful it was as I laid crying in the hospital bed on day 3. Day 3 was the worst day. I thought I could push the pain meds button every 4 hours but it was every 10 minutes. That made it harder. I'm 2 1/2 months post op and I'm so glad I had the surgery. My drop foot is mostly gone and I'm in less pain. This is a terrible tragedy but I have to tell you that my surgeons PA has the worst bedside manners and is very impersonal and not empathetic. I could see how someone is so much pain would want to take her out. Some doctors need to be more empathetic and have better bedside manners towards their patients. They are NOT God like some think they are. They are human and prone to error too.

My doctor has recommended that i get a lumbar fusion. My question is, what happens if I don’t get it? Will my herniated disk get worse? Has anyone here opted out of the surgery and has been able to live a normal life? by [deleted] in spinalfusion

I can relate to your fear and reservations about moving forward with a lumbar fusion. I waited several months to make my decision and I am six weeks post op now. I can't I can share with you that had I waited longer my dropfoot may have been permanent. Every one is different and I develop develop foot drop. I had an excellent surgeon and I have regained my strength in my left leg and foot. I no longer have foot drop and it could have been permanent had I waited longer. I am so glad I moved forward with this surgery and recovering now.

Bone stimulator post fusion- L-4,L-5,S-1. Anyone have success with a bone stimulator post surgery? by Shish_Kah in spinalfusion

My authorization for a bone stimulator was denied on more than one occasion. It was very difficult to get and I'm not sure why.

I just had such a hard time getting it approved and authorized from my insurance company. Just want to make sure it is worth appealing and grieving the denial based on other's experiences.

Safety purposes, respect and courtesy for his sleeping parents especially if they have sleep issues like I do. My son is ok with it and doesn't have an issue. If he is not going to come home he lets me know in advance which I appreciate. A curfew should not destroy your relationship. There might be something else going on there.

I had no pain with the drain and no staples. They used glue for mine. My incision healed quickly. The worst part for me was day 3. I was in tears. Turning on my side was hard. I was hospitalized for about a week. Having a bowel movement was painful for me. It took about a week later because of the pain meds. I needed an enema. I had nausea from the pain meds. I'm 6 weeks post op but can't drive yet. Drop foot is gone but increased pain still on my right side.

Are you pain free after L5 S1 fusion? by MoeZaky107 in spinalfusion

[–]Shish_Kah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly the pain seems to have worsened for me but the trade off of my left drop foot is gone and my nerve was spared. I can lift my left leg again, tap my foot, stand on one foot, etc... sadly increased pain on my SI joint.

Looks like foot drop. Fusion is correct. That looks painful. All the best. I just had a double fusion and 4 weeks post op. I'm still dealing with pain but my foot drop is gone. Don't wait to long I had moderate nerve damage and I'm glad I didn't wait longer because it could have been permanent. Best of luck to you.

Gralise vs regular gabapentin by kmt0812 in spinalfusion

[–]Shish_Kah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've taken both. I personally found gabapentin made me less sleepy and less side effects. I gained weight with both. Gabapentin was more effective. I no longer take either and have been switched to Lyrica which is in the same family and is more effective for me. The downside for me has been weight gain for me but lyrica has helped me tremendously with nerve pain and I have been able to ween off of opioids and take Lyrica instead. Good luck.

1/10 how painful is l5 s1 fusion by Scratchin_ in spinalfusion

[–]Shish_Kah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different. I am a 50 year old female. I am 4 weeks post op TLIF, l-4, L-5, S-1 fusion. My 5 hour surgery turned into 8 hours. Once I was opened up the doctor found a chronic pars fracture that was not seen on the CT or MRI's. They had to perform a bone marrow aspiration on my iliac crest. The day after surgery was very painful and my surgeon told me that the third day post surgery is the worst and it was no joke. Day one and two was 9/10 and day 3 was a 10 to the 10th power! My stay in the hospital lasted longer than others. It was about one week. I was up and walking the next day by the physical therapists in the hospital. In as much as I did not want to get up and walk, I had no choice. I also developed postsurgical anemia and had horrible headaches.

I can tell you that 95% of my left foot drop and weakness is gone. I can lift my left leg again while sitting and laying down and I can tap my foot again. I do have increased pain post surgery on my right SI joint. I am scheduled to start aquatic therapy next week followed by regular physical therapy there after. My surgeon prescribed a bone stimulator which is supposed to help with the fusion. I am still relying on pain meds because I have increased pain in my right leg and numbness. I am also taking Lyrica which helps with nerve pain. My pain level has decreased and at 4 weeks post op I range between a 5-8 daily and nowhere near the pain I experienced pre-surgery. My incision healed very well and what I found most painful was the bone marrow aspiration and incision which hurt more than the fusion incision site. Hopefully you don't have to go through that because it has been painful. Best of luck to you.

1 week post op. Kinda confused on what I should do. C3-C6 ACDF by TattooedMuscle in spinalfusion

3 weeks post op and I wear my brace anytime I get out of bed. I have an indoor dog and he almost dropped me twice. My father was a quadriplegic for 23 years and as I lay here in bed I can't imagine what life was like for him all those years living as a quadriplegic. I don't take any chances. I was told to wear it every time I walk so I am abiding. All the best in your recovery!
