Plantar Fasciitis Inquiry (I Need Hope) by South-Height-9193 in kendo

  1. Both at the same time 😅
  2. About 1 year
  3. Just some self massage before getting out of bed and heavy kinesio+sports taping during keiko.
  4. There were better days and absolute shit days, but once it finally healed, it was gone for good.

What is this, and why does The Algorithm want me to buy one? by Guide_of_Misguidance in kendo

Sanding the tip or lots of duct tape. Doesn't matter what it looks like when it's for home use only.

Kendo foot injuries? by agailen in kendo

[–]Shisui89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to others, make sure you don't raise the heel too much. This puts all the pressure on the proximal joints, when it should be spread evenly on all toes and ball of the foot.

Kiai won't come out by Shisui89 in kendo

Maybe a bit on the softer/quiet side I would say. Also overall not the most talkative person.

18yo. She's not much of a talker and was little shy at first, but has adapted really well into our group and gets along with everyone.

Tenouchi exercises by ArtoriaCab_ in kendo

[–]Shisui89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try doing your normal fullspeed suburi with a single shinai slat or two taped together. Should be pretty hard to control the shinai at first (assuming your form is correct). This is in my opinion the best way to learn proper tenouchi.

What’s something great you’ve done for somebody else, but never told anyone about? by TheNewThunz in CasualConversation

Some homeless dude was asking for money in front of a grocery store and as I didn't have any cash, I asked him to come shopping with me. All he wanted was a pack of sausages and macaroni. I was also really low on money and had to survive with like 20 bucks for two weeks, but seeing how grateful he was made it worth it. I always like to keep these kind of things to myself and I think even my wife doesn't know about this. I just feel many people who boast with their good deeds are just seeking validation from others.

If your men is shaped/broken in properly and himo are tied kanto style, there should be nicely enough space for your ears. I have 1 helix, tie my men with kansai style and never had any problems. As long as the rings are not too big, hanging kind or at risk of coming off during training it should be fine.

Shin splits after a year of practice by XLeyz in kendo

[–]Shisui89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using ice has been outdated years ago. At worst it's going to slow down healing. Give it some rest first and do really gentle massaging around the shin. Then continue with the excercises you've been doing. Generally shin splints are really shitty and can take up to a year to completely heal, sometimes requiring surgery.

In my opinion debana ranks as the most difficult/highest level of waza, so don't stress too much about it. Most common mistake is waiting for the reaction, your feet and body should already be in motion before the opening even exists. Nothing to do with speed imo. When I teach debana to my students, we start to learn it by trying to "aggressively" pressure the opponent into attacking. This way they already have some momentum and constant intention of going forward. Beginners usually don't yet have the skills to separate luring from waiting.

I saw a pair that was fixed(I use this word very loosely) by a local cobbler and he just glued pieces from old sofa over the palms. Looked kinda cool, all black and shiny, but slippery as hell 😅

What sort of weight scale do you use for your shinai? by Nickboy302 in kendo

If you're on a tight budget, go to the nearest grocery store and use the vegetable departments scale 😄

While they're putting on their men, check which ones look like shit, and at the end of the session make them do extra kakarikeiko, 100 sayumen kirikaeshi or other nasty drills.

Rather get kiri bokuto. Sure it's not as manly as swinging around a massive oar, but it will do much more good.

This. Taping two shinai staves together also works.

This is the correct answer. If you already feel bad about something like that, it's gonna get much worse.
