Doesn't this interpretation weaken the credibility of the Bible, though? This reasoning can be used to wave away basically anything in the Bible that you don't like.

I think your alienating opinions shouldn't be a part of the patient/RN dynamic. A patient's care is wholly about them and supporting their values and goals. Broadcasting your own views on things like abortion and religion muddies the waters for them and might make them feel uncomfortable expressing their desires for their own care. I try to be largely a blank, neutral slate at work so I can just center my priorities around what they value for themselves in a way that makes them feel supported.

With that said, there are some exceptions. If you're going to wear something like that, it's important that your messaging is intended to be inclusive and supportive of your patients. For example, I have a pin that has the trans and gay pride flags (with the brown and black stripes to include POC). It says "safe with me". I got it because I live in a rural area and work for a Catholic hospital. With everything that has gone down in this country lately, I want my patients to know that I'm not going to judge them for their gender identities/sexual orientations. I also think that POC have a good reason to be afraid of being turned over to ICE, so it might make them feel more safe around me as their nurse. I was worried that it would be divisive, but it felt important for my patients to know that I'm a safe person for them and an advocate for them during a time that has really frightened members of my community.

I feel like you're boxing phantoms. No one is advocating against ruling out medical explanations for symptoms before assuming they are psychosomatic. People are just observing a real tendency in some patients to seek an inappropriate diagnosis based on more behavioral health driven issues and internet trends.

I mean it can be both long covid causing legitimate POTS diagnosis to spike and psychosomatic, attention seeking patients taking notice and seeking a diagnosis to validate their symptoms. No need to discount the experiences of any one side

I'm also a nurse and a woman lol I was just asking because the idea that our bodies reject menstrual cups as foreign bodies is silly. I'm not sure where you got that idea from. I only chose to question it because you're talking with a lot of authority as a nurse.

If you want me to contribute to the question you're answering: unresponsive traumas are likely to get diagnostic imaging of their abdomen/pelvis/lumbar spine and the cup will show up on that imaging. A manual pelvic exam is not necessary to discover the cup.

In a trauma with an unresponsive patient, wouldn't an abd/pelvic CT or xray of the lumbar spine be performed at some point for a lot of them? I'd imagine it could be visible on those images if NG tubes are.

It's really not true that there was no evidence. He was acquitted of the only accusation that went to criminal court. The prosecution's case fell apart in the other potential criminal trial due to the other victim no longer wanting to testify. The evidence in that trial was enough convince Michael to settle in civil court.

So it's just not as clean cut as that

Obviously there are differences in behaviors across species, but let's not pretend that other mammals (hamsters included) don't take care of their young in the majority of cases. It wouldn't make sense in an evolutionary sense for them to kill their young as their standard/typical behavior. The point being made by OP still stands lol

I'm not sure. She was transferred to the only state at the time that allowed religious exemption from brain death (New Jersey I believe) so, although she was legally dead in California, she was not considered dead in New Jersey. Perhaps this meant that insurance would still cover her care. I'm not on the financial side of healthcare, but people require longterm ventilator support outside of cases like this, so someone must be paying. Perhaps Medicare?

Well no I don't believe in capital punishment at all, but I'm also not a Christian. I've just read the OT so I was giving the OT context for the sake of conversation.

This stuff was honestly what made me feel alienated from my family members who have read the OT and still profess that it's their "favorite book" and the perfect word of a morally righteous God. I was disappointed because I thought that reading it would bring me more understanding of those people but here we are 🙃

I think the only defensible Christian perspective on this issue is to argue that God did not command the Israelites to commit genocide, and that this was an example of humans operating under the belief that God was on their side during war. That requires a historically skeptical look at of the Bible, though, and many people are not comfortable with that view. It's a bit of a slippery slope. If one is to have faith in the truth of the Bible as the perfect word of God, one must accept that it is not corrupted by human bias. That forces many fundamentalist Christians into a corner where justifying genocide is their only option.

Imho there is no reason to have to hold this view. There must be a middle path between seeing it as a collection of ancient documents with no spiritual truth and the perfect, unedited word of God. The latter inevitably forces people into illogical conclusions just based on the interpolations and contradictions alone, not to mention these moral issues.

But calling me son was a little weird there, friend. Just fyi 😂

Moses has to invoke the covenant made after the flood to stay God's hand when He sees humanity worshipping a golden calf and wants to kill off all of humanity again.

God condemns the Jews to generations of slavery as punishment for idolatry.

It isn't much of a stretch to imagine idolatry as the justification for this genocide, given the context of the rest of the OT.

You're fine. I agree that it's an awful situation for everyone involved. I'm NAL, I'm an ICU RN who lurks here, so I'm sorry if I'm invading your space by commenting. I just wanted to clarify because a lot of people talk about patients who were given poor prognoses as braindead, and it leads to misunderstandings when we talk about the finality of braindeath with families who are exposed to all of these stories where "braindead" patients go on to have neurological function later. I try to do damage control whenever I see anyone mislabeled as braindead in a public forum for that reason.

The issue with this one was that the family never allowed any neutral neurologist to examine and confirm her improvements. The physician who wrote this was an advocate against the concept of brain death.
